A Bit Peeved with Holland America.....

I recently did back-to-back cruises on the Nieuw Amsterdam from April 28, 2019 through May 11, 2019.  Although my cruise days were posted correctly, I didn’t get any credit for onboard spending of $619.97.  I had to scan my Final Statement and convert email confirmations of pre-purchased tours into PDFs.  I don't see how they could have overlooked this.  I just emailed the documentation so we'll see what happens.

That is unusual, at least in our experience. They have always been very generous in giving us the credit for on-board spending, and it has always been applied to our account within about 2 weeks of the sailing.

Maybe they had a temporary glitch in their system.  I hope they get it sorted out for you soon.

I haven’t checked Roz-I’ll do that later and let you know.

Hi Canadianbear.  It was good seeing you and Mr. Bear on the Coastal cruise.

Well you peaked my curiosity Roz so I couldn’t wait and went and checked our last 3 cruises.  (I don’t keep track to be honest once I reached 4* as figured we’d never get to 5!)

Anyway, mine is all correct for my January, February and April cruise.  I’m sure they’ll get yours sorted out although it is an annoyance.

Was very nice catching up in the Neptune lounge and Pinnacle at breakfast with you too.  I love the Coastal cruises.  Mr Bear says hi!

Personally -- I would have called the Mariner Society.

The reason I emailed them is I'm sure it's easier to verify things when they have the documentation in front of them.

It doesn't hurt to be diligent.  Let us know if you get it straightened out.

I'm close to becoming 4 star (184 days so far), so the credits for onboard spending will push me even closer.

Thanks for all the encouragement. 😉  The sailing days - 12 for 6 days in a Neptune and 7 for 7 days in an inside cabin - posted accurately and right away.  Onboard spending for both cruises shows -0-.  Very odd.

We had some issues with our September 2018 Prinsendam cruise being credited.  It took a month or so. Then 2 days after our April-May Prinsendam cruise we had our credits posted.  2 days!  I was shocked, but grateful I didn't have to keep checking on it.

That hurts.  With at least 2 more onboard spending credits you would be guaranteed 4-star with a 14-day cruise.

Roz, not sure who you sent the email to, but you can try calling them at HAL Revenue Accounting 888-6635384 M-F 7-5 Pacific time.

They can access your final stmnt online.

Good luck

I had similar problem after a 40 night cruise on Zaandam and patiently waited several weeks for my spending credits before contacting the Mariner Society.  I emailed them first, with all the docs like you and got a ridiculous answer from them and credits that didn't even cover our HSC for 40 nights.  I called them after this and had the problem fixed in 15 minutes.  You might want to call.

FWIW, in the future, you can request your account statement to be sent to you via email; it will come in PDF format from Revenue.

That is good to know.

I have been trying to log into my HAL acct this afternoon to check on some things and I am getting the circle of death or "Your session has expired. Please sign in again." message no matter what I do. Sigh. That website is a hot mess on roller skates!!

I'm getting the same thing.   I would say that calling is going to get you more than anything through the web right now.

What is the Mariner Society phone number?  They did not give me my Suite bonus credits for my 16 night transatlantic on Zuiderdam in April/May.  I emailed them 3 weeks ago and haven't heard back from them.

Thanks!

I'm kind of a HAL newbie ... can someone explain what 'credits' passengers get from onboard spending?

You earn one Mariner Day for each increment of $300 of spending (excludes casino) while on board.  This includes online HAL purchases before the cruise.  HAL is generous and rounds up to the next $300 increment.  Suites get double the normal credit days creditied (7 days in a suite earn 14 Mariner Days).  As you accumulate days, you can earn discounts on Specialty Restaurant dinners.  At the highest level of 5* Mariner (500 day credits), you receive free laundry and two free Pinnacle Grill dinners, among other benefits.

HAL excursions also count to earning Mariner Days while private excursions do not.

Hope this helps your understanding.

Wow .... you explained that very nicely!  I had no idea that HAL did this.

I so appreciate your quick response.
