Just off Adventure and bartender lied about drinks

OK..there was a lazy bartender. WOW - that's the end of the world apparently for a very few people.

...but then put the frosting on the cake by venting here after the fact...dealing with it at the time with a simple conversation to his boss was the right thing to do. End of story.

I was under the impression the Al Gore invented the internet just for venting! 😀

... and sharing cat videos.

It may have been a provisioning/inventory issue.

On the last night, they may not have been allowed to get more of the mix at that particular bar because the week's inventory had already been accounted for.

Just a guess.... lots of stupid rules are because of the bean-counters in Miami, not the servers on the front lines.

He needs it from the Casino if hes Prime.

Oops, he may have had a pkg

What I'm reading (post #5) is that since they only have one cocktail a day that either they have the soda package or refreshment package. I assume from your comment that Prime members drink free in the casino.

It is the statement that the ship is out of the mix that was the problem. We only drink 2 or 3 different drinks and BBC and Mudslides are 2 of them.  We only drink on cruises and usually only have 1 drink a day. So I can only assume he was too lazy to get supplies or did not want to serve me.

If you only have one drink a day, assume it was a soda package they refunded?

He didn't say which package but I assumed since they only have one cocktail a day that it's a soda or refreshment package.

As l understand bar stuff, they run a check on what is running low, and then restock during "bar closed" hours. If something is low, and NOT restocked, it seems to me a quite reasonable assumption for the incoming bar staff to think, " that hasn't been restocked, only a day out from the end of the cruise, guess we've run out". The bar staff opening up the bar have plenty to do without running off to stores to find out why an item hadn't been replenished.

I have occasionally encountered bars (and all bars on board) running out of something (white zinfandel wine comes to mind). Ship happens, not worth having a hissy fit over it.

They sort of lie about stuff all the time. It is not unusual. Just go to a different bar. It is something that we no longer make an issue of, unless we need to get the bar manager involved.

I went to the Schooner bar just outside the casino and ordered a Mojito. Bar tender said he was out of mint and couldn't make it. No problem ordered a different drink. Next day I went to Bolero's and asked the bartender Raquel if she would give me some mint. She said no problem. I then went to the Schooner bar and ordered a Mojito and got the same response no mint. I then said to the bar tender here you go and handed him the mint and told him they have plenty at Bolero's. Now I don't know if it's a communication problem or what, but if a bar runs out of something and the rest of the bars have it ,then why don't they restock at night by checking if another bar has something. Makes you think the Bartender didn't want to make that drink. Not saying that is the case but it is very confusing.

Sorry that you had a problem.  Feel your title is a little strong - bartender told you he was out of a mix - this does happen especially on the last night of a cruise.  Specific bar could have easily been out and bartender told no more available.  Understand that you were upset, but to think he purposely lied is a bit much.

I had the same problem on day 2 on an Anthem sailing, they said they had no more Bloody Mary mix....low and behold a few days later they had it. The bartender was just to lazy to get the mix from storage.

The response that have received over the years on all cruise lines is, "We don't make that drink here". I can accept that reason over the lack of an ingredient. If all of the bars stocked all of the wine Vintages would do no business at all. Many nights my wife and I were the only ones in there. They were the only one's who stocked Whispering Angel Rose'. Since Bolero's is a Spanish themed bar I would expect them to always be fully stocked with mint for Mojito's. I would have loved to have seen the look on the bar tenders face when you handed him the mint.

Sounds like you had a lazy bar-crew!

I was thinking this, too, and maybe he was getting off the next day for his 2 month break between contracts!  Crew members (and MANY land workers) get a short-timers attitude when you know you're about to get free for a while!😊

I think the OP made a big deal out of a simple thing.  We were on the Adventure for 34 days recently and found the crew to be exceptional.

There seems to be a pattern with the casino bar on Adventure in terms of keeping things stocked. On my last cruise they ran out of Kalua one evening at around 10pm. I was in and out of the casino bar until fairly late that evening and it was never replaced, nor had it been replaced by the beginning of the blackjack tournament the following afternoon. I'm not pointing a finger at any individuals but that does seem like an inordinate amount of time to re-stock.

Do the bartenders actually get supplies when they run short?  I would assume there would be a "runner" who brings supplies to the bar so that the bartender(s) are always there to serve passengers.  Maybe there was a problem with the runner??  I think Brillohead has the best explanation...some dumb rule that the bartender doesn't control.

My wife worked in a department store for a few years.  A customer wanted to return a product for cash with no receipt.  DW had been trained that this was not allowed and she could only offer store credit for the return without a receipt.  She explained this to the angry customer who asked to speak to a manager.  The manager appeared and instantly gave a cash refund.  Made DW look like a lazy, ignorant employee when in fact she was doing exactly what she was trained to do.

Although you never know where the instructions are coming from.  I forget which ship it was, but RCL had introduced escargots as a standard appetizer on its menu.  After a few days of this sail , we were told that they ran out of them.  This sail was  in Feb. and happened over Valentine's Day week, and every day we kidded/busted our Head waiter/waiter chops regarding escargot.  Well, on this day, Valentine's Day, they f happened to find a bunch--we enjoyed them immensely.

That is an assumption. We have no idea how busy that bar or bartender was at the time, so I ask myself after telling the OP they are out of mix, why would they then tell the OP the entire ship was out. The only reason I can think of is the OP pressed the bartender to go find mix elsewhere rather than go to a different bar himself. Perhaps going in search for pina colada mix at that time was just not practical as opposed to lazy. So rather than say they just can’t do that, they tell them there is no pina colada mix anywhere else. Bad move maybe but not necessarily due to laziness.

Cruise Critic needs a counter of how many threads are started about alcohol.  Drink packages, sharing drink packages, number of drinks, strength of drinks, size of drinks, lack of drinks, cost of drinks, service of drinks, alcohol purchased on the ship, alcohol purchased off the ship, alcohol carried on, alcohol stashed in luggage, rum runners, alcohol on excursions, drinking age on U.S. cruises, drinking age of every foreign port on the planet.  Did I miss anything?  Having quit drinking alcohol many years ago I should have millions set aside.   Not sure what happened.  😂

Not necessarily.

If you've ever seen the way things are stored in HUGE BULK, there's always a possibility that the pallet with the Bloody Mary mix was hidden under/behind a pallet of something else, and it just took a few days for them to use enough product to dig down to it.

Perhaps a breathalyzer test before posting requirement could also go into the suggestion box and save all sorts of time for the moderators... 🤣

Unfortunately there is no test for entitlement or stupidity.

I can tell you from working in restaurants that in general, frozen and especially ice cream drinks are not the favorites of bartenders to make, time-consuming, numerous messy ingredients, noisy blender, and therefore they may not go out of their way in the casino to go after the ingredients, and feel like they are more of a poolside thing. Not taking sides here, I just know how bartenders can be...a simple highball gets them the same tip for a tenth of the effort. A moderate sum when you first meet and they'll feel more inclined to go to extra trouble.
