Smoking question

Has anyone actually gotten caught smoking on their balcony and been forced to pay the fine?

 

Just wondering how strict it is and if anyone actually risked it 🙂

I have reported people on two occasions.  Don’t know the details of what happened, but the smoking stopped.

I too have reported people smoking on their balcony.  And the best way to get action is to call security right away and they will come up immediately.

It's been reported here on CC by a forum member who took pictures and showed the staff. When the smoker was initially confronted, the smoker denied the act. The pictures were then printed on the ships printer via Bluetooth and shown to the smoker. I don't remember if the fine was accessed but the smoking on the balcony by that guest stopped.

 

My guess would be that if a smoker continues to smoke after the staff has addressed the smoker, the fine would be charged.

As others have said, definitely depends upon your neighbors!  I'm a former smoker so I do have sympathy, but even I have made quite a few reports myself because health-wise I just can't handle the second-hand smoke and don't want to have go inside my cabin while folks are smoking (it is a hassle - I'm disabled.)  The smoking has always stopped after one report - but not sure about fines except for one case.  I had reported cigarette butts on my balcony in the morning to my butler.  He probably shouldn't have shared this info, but he did tell me later that they also found evidence of cigarette use in my neighbor's cabin and they were definitely fined.

I'm a smoker, but I have no sympathy for those who HAVE to smoke on their balcony or in the cabin. Get your *** out of the cabin to a legit smoking area.

And I'm just answering.  Perhaps you think rules don't apply to you.  They do.  As others have said, you'll be reported and fined.  (And maybe if you try it again, you'll put off at the next port.)

Smoking on the balcony is more than just a health hazard to all others around you - it is a fire hazard for the entire ship!

Just to note, a fine is only one thing. If it doesn't deter a smoker, the smoker might be finding their way home from a port of call they didn't intend to.

I asked a simple question...for someone i am traveling with...who likes cigars.

 

Anyway, if no one smokes anymore, i invite you to the casino...where we can wager on if there will be smokers...then i will finally win in the casino, cause for sure i win that bet.  So hush on that silly opinion. 

  

And burn the ship down?  Geez...isnt that a bit dramatic...only carnival has ever had a fire, and it wasnt due to smoking...so...i highly doubt that will happen. i kinda think that comment shows us who the stupid people are 😉

 

I was merely wondering how strictly it is enforced...no need for other inane comments...i get dumber reading them

I am a smoker and wish we could smoke on the balconies still but we can’t. This is why we now book insides. Save a lot of money since I can not smoke on the balcony. Do not see the reason to book one otherwise. We now have great vacations on insides and save a heck of a lot of money. Never thought to break the rules but think it is rediculous to restrict smokers from smoking on the balconies.

As time goes by there are fewer and fewer places you can smoke.  Smoking on the balcony is not allowed period.  There are several areas on the ship to smoke.  Please don’t smoke on balconies because it really is a nuisance to others.

the OP did not indicate they were a smoker nor did they indicate they were trying to get away with anything....... it seemed like a very innocent type question about the enforcement of a policy. 

 

With all the posts where people have reported a smoker it is interesting to see if anything actually came of it such as the fine.

I'm sure that the family of Richard Liffridge (retired Air Force Sergeant) would disagree with you...

 

 

...and according to the MAIB (Marine Accident Investigation Branch) report, the fire that killed Mr. Liffridge (a non-smoker) was started by a cigarette. Which balcony or deck that the cigarette was smoked on is impossible to know but the fire started on a deck different from where Mr. Liffridge was staying and forward of where he was staying. In other words, he died because a smoker didn't think that a cigarette was harmful to others.

I was thinking of that one, but didn't remember the name of this ship and didn't want to take time to research.  We were sailing in Alaska not long after that fire and they were busy installing fire suppression on all of the balconies every day that we were in port. Several other changes were added after that as well.

Choose another line NCl is not very smoker friendly. Small cigar room and no cigar smoking in the casino.

And there usually are a lot of cigarette smokers in the cigar lounge.  I don't smoke but my cruise friend does.  He said there are always complaints about cigarette smokers taking over the cigar lounge.
