Post dinner dress code (Equinox) ?

We are experienced cruisers, all RCCL in past 20 yrs, a few other lines going farther back.   Once evening dinner has passed, we like to kick back in comfortable shorts and casual shirts, attend shows and live music that way, and some forum content we’ve seen suggested evening dress remains more formal on Equinox.  Anybody been on Equinox in the last 60 days that can offer insight to how formal evening attire needs to be ??    Our RCCL experience says no issue, evening casual (shorts) is a very common practice.  Wondering if we need to pack differently due to this .... thanks in advance to anyone who can offer actual recent experience (on Equinox)

No problem changing after dinner. My husband always changes into shorts and a T-shirt after dinner before he goes to the casino. It’s definitely not formal, especially on Equinox.

The last two times we cruised on Equinox, I only wore a shirt and slacks, wife wore a nice dress or slacks.  Some people were in formal wear, but they were in the minority.

When we were last on Silhouette earlier this year, on the Evening Chic nights most people stayed dressed in their “chic” clothes throughout the entire evening.

Were you in Europe? Is tends to be dressier over here compared to the Caribbean.

We were recently on Equinox, Caribbean.  Did not notice anyone in super-casual wear around the ship after dinner; it looked like most just stayed in their dinner wear, including on casual nights.  (We did not spend any time in the casino, but did walk around the ship, buffet, theater, dance venues, etc.)

We often stay in casual dress and even skip the MDR. Yes most are in dining attire and you will be the odd one out.

Especially in the theater and bars and lounges,

Regular non chic night  dinner attire of no shorts seems to carry through...unless we head outdoors to the Sunset Bar or pool decks...or  had  our dinner in the buffet.

 

Celebrity has not yet been fully "Royalized " or  "Norwegianized"

We stay dressed in whatever we wore to dinner.  It just seems like a pain to change again for the evening.

It seems to me that you may have asked this question here on Cruise Critic before...

 

Celebrity has not altered its dress code--it is common across the fleet [including Equinox] other than for cruises in The Galapagos--since formal nights were discontinued and evening chic nights were implemented several years ago.

 

Following is from the Celebrity website...

Formal Night gets a modern luxury reboot. Say goodbye to Formal Night, and hello to Evening Chic. It’s your time to shine—your way. Get glamorous. Get chic. Be sophisticated. Now, on up to two nights on every cruise, Evening Chic activities have been introduced, and Evening Chic attire has replaced Formal attire. While dressier than Smart Casual, Evening Chic is intended to be less dressy than Formal attire.

 

Women should feel comfortable wearing:

·        A cocktail dress

·        Skirt, pants or designer jeans with an elegant top

 

Men should feel comfortable wearing:

·        Pants or designer jeans with a dress shirt, button-down shirt or sweater

·        Optional sport coat or blazer

 

Evening Chic means that you can get glamorous and be sophisticated in your own way. If you would like to still wear a tuxedo or formal gown on Evening Chic nights, you absolutely should.

 

All cruises that are 7 nights or longer will feature two Evening Chic nights. Any cruise 6-nights or shorter will feature one Evening Chic night. All other nights of the cruise will feature Smart Casual attire. Celebrity Xpedition will continue to feature casual attire for the entire cruise.

 

Smart Casual attire can be enjoyed every other night of your cruise.

 

Women should feel comfortable wearing:

Men should feel comfortable wearing:

·        Pants or jeans with a short sleeve sport shirt.

 

Note: T-shirts, swimsuits, robes, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps and pool wear are not allowed in the main restaurant or specialty restaurant at any time. Shorts and flip-flops are not allowed in the evening hours. The dress code will be enforced at all restaurants. And guests are asked to follow the Smart Casual or Evening Chic dress code in the Celebrity Theater for all evening performances. The daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening."

Evening dress on Royal Caribbean tends to be more casual than it is on Celebrity...

Cruised on Equinox in July,  lots of people in theater, casino, etc. in very casual clothes on formal night.  Actually, very few people in what I would call formal dress in the MDR on Evening Chic night.   You will be fine changing after dinner.

We usually change after dinner in the Caribbean.  It never made any sense to have to wear a jacket to dinner as I  removed it as soon a I sat down because it was too hot.

 

The casual Chic made it more enjoyable but depending on the weather I may change to  shorts and a T.    

 

Many will do the same and seriously no one cares how you are dressed when sitting in a dark theater or a lounge.  

 

Do what you feel feel comfortable with.  

 

Another thing to think about.  Many will go to the buffet for dinner as the dress code is really relaxed.  Will they be told that they can’t attend the show or be served at a bar because they aren’t “properly” dressed?

You are so right!  There are no “dress code” police roaming the halls or theater to make sure you are dressed “properly”.   I can just see them telling some high roller they can’t come in the casino and spend a ton of money because they have shorts on.😂😂😂

In June on Equinox we tended to stay in what we went to dinner in for shows and such afterwards, but I would think you would be fine changing.  Whatever night the white party was, we did change that night because if I am in white, whatever I am eating magically appears on whatever I am wearing.   You may not want to go to T-shirt, flip-flops and shorts on the Chic nights, but I do not think anyone would give you a 2nd look.

The dress code whatever it might be doesn’t apply anywhere but the dining rooms, and as mentioned theater which is not enforced.  The beauty is after dinner you can do what you want. Been that way for several years.

They used to enforce the dress code throughout the ship and that included throwing people out of the casino in shorts.   Have seen it.Times have changed though

There is also a dress code for Captain's Club Elite events, and it is usually enforced -- that is, no shorts for the cocktail event in the Sky Lounge, and for the Elite tea.  I have also seen people in bathing attire turned away from the Elite breakfast.

Happy that times have changed😀.   I had read on CC that formal dress would be enforced in the casino and theater before our first cruise on Century in 2012 and was pleasantly surprised to find it was not.

I’ve always worn a swimsuit with coverup and flip flops whenever we’ve gone to the Elite breakfast without a problem.

Perhaps your coverup is longer, less diaphanous, and more modest than the one I saw which denied its wearer entrance to the breakfast.

Wouldn’t say it is modest😂, you can definitely tell I am wearing beachwear.
