Getting up early and watching the ship pull into a new port of call.

🤨 <--- Me (Right the opposite of the quote above) NOT getting up EARLY to do ANYTHING on a cruise, except having to disenbark and I DEFINITLY hate getting up for that !). Because I spent the last 19 years (of a 29 year job) getting UP at 03:00 a.m. to GO to work ! Took me almost a year after I retied in 2012 too break THAT habit and finally be able to sleep past 6 a.m.😃 IF, anyone, like the OP above, does enjoy doing the early rise-thingee for a cup and watch the sail-in, well good for them, GO-for-it !! Good for those who do.

Not having to cook and clean up afterwards.  No yardwork.  Going braindead (even at trivia). Genuinely enjoying conversations about travels with a new friend or even just a friendly stranger onboard. Trying or tasting a unique dish or meal for the first time...and knowing I can order another. 😊

There is not one specific thing to love the most...…..it is so many things, as mentioned in some

of the previous postings.:classic_biggrin:

I LOVE being pampered.....unpacking once---then being taken care of for the rest of the trip.:classic_biggrin:

See new places, meeting new folks, having wonderful meals (and maybe even trying a new

beverage or 2)

Sleeping in if the urge comes over me----going to bed early if I feel like it....actually watching

some tv if I want LOL...some folks don't "do tv" while on a cruise...well, sometimes I do

and enjoy it.

So many things to LOVE about cruising:classic_biggrin:

Being at sea.

You couldn't have said it BETTER  Just 'being'. Either sitting on the balcony OR leaning or it, with arms folded on top. Watching the beautiful blue- green water silently RUSH by, white frothy foam, smell the clean air, watch the horizon for ships, feel the sun. Knowing that come tomorrow (hopefully for many more) you can LOVE it all over again. Times like this make it feel SO wonderful just BEING.

About cruising? 🙂

Relaxing, seeing new places, meeting new people and meeting strangers that you engage in conversation and find out that you share things in common. In 2018 I was on a cruise and had a conversation with a guy and found out that he worked at the high school I graduated.Last month he was on a cruise that I was on and I had a conversation with his wife and found out that she and I grew up in the same area.

Waking up and the endless horizon and vast sea, being on board a ship, sharing adventures with my wife, making new friends, exploring ports, escaping reality and transforming into the sheer bliss of cruise mode within five seconds of coming off the gangway.

Getting off the boat.  Cruising is a means to an end not an end unto itself.  It is a travel mode chosen when it is the most suitable means to visit a specific place. Without the ports most cruise ships are little more than large second rate hotels with mediocre food, insipid entertainment and tiny rooms.

I am glad you said "most" because there are quite a few cruise lines that have excellent food and large cabins.

I just returned home from a ship that only holds 300 guests, has large staterooms and fantastic food.:classic_biggrin:

For me, cruising is much more than just a mode of transport.

Different strokes:classic_biggrin:

It is one of the few times when I am effortlessly living “in the moment”.  On warm-weather cruises it’s sitting on the balcony reading, looking at the horizon, having morning coffee or an afternoon adult beverage, and watching the sunset.  Love not making decisions except whether to eat in the dining room or buffet.  Love spending just-us time with DH, breaking routines and live music.  Love early mornings on the ship when I’m the only one getting coffee and pastries at the International Cafe... so nice to be a morning person!

To counter the negativity above... My hotel travels with me (unpack once), I get service better than at most hotels, the food may not always be perfect but it is usually different and interesting, being a patron of a bar “where everybody knows your name” if but for a short while, sampling many locations throughout the world knowing I can return later to spend more time should I find it worthy, dressing “to the 9s” EVERY night because they’re all special occasions in spite of all the “It’s my vacation so I’ll dress like a homeless bum if I want to” people, and finally doing whatever I want when I want.
