So if you have a cruise cancelled, would you vacation elsewhere this summer?

We are cancelling AK in June for health status of our travel companions. Assuming WE are healthy, we will drive to visit them in place.

We are cancelling our CPH-BOS trans-Atlantic in Aug/Sept for an unrelated reason, and we will be renting a camper-truck and seeing other family in the Northeast US.

Those being our plans at present. Subject to change!

If it's just the 2 of you, look at those Mercedes Sprinter camper vans!!!   I saw quite a few of them this past fall when I was on my camping road trip.   Either way, the road trip is always a great thing to do in the USA!!!

Just returned from a Caribbean Cruise to ABC islands.  Full ship.  Went to Disney with granddaughters before the cruise.

We plan to visit our son in Vegas over Memorial Day.  Flying to Tahoe from there and up to Glacier National Park.  Ending our trip in Everett, WA visiting my sister before flying home to Cape Cod.

We've had such a nice warm winter this year that hopefully the flu and virus season will be over early. Welcome Daylight Savings and Spring!!!

We've been debating booking a summer cruise because of the deals on offer right now. Just so many unknowns. If we already had one booked we'd be taking a wait and see approach just now.

We have a Mississippi river cruise coming the end of this month with my husband's mother. She's considering cancelling as she's old enough her age alone makes it concerning. If things get any worse she definitely will cancel and just stay home. She has travel to two other states to visit relatives booked in April and May and another river cruise in June she is very worried about.

I know there is no vaccine for this new virus yet, but husband and I are fully vaccinated for everything else so less worry about secondary infection if we get it. Neither of us are in any of the high risk groups. Not really too worried about us getting it as it is extremely rare for either of us to be ill, and quarantine wouldn't be an issue for us. We're going unless the cruise is canceled I think. Either things won't be any worse than they are now which I think means a pretty low chance anyways, or things will be much worse and they'll cancel anyways.

If we canceled this cruise we'd probably do a trip to Puerto Rico instead in the current circumstance. If things get worse we might find no one is allowed to travel.

We have had our 10 day Egypt tour with a 4 day Nile River cruise (supposed to leave tomorrow!) cancelled by the travel company, and are leaning towards cancelling an 11 day partial Panama Canal transit next month.

We live in tropical SWFL where temps throughout February were exceeding 85 most days, so we have no need to fly somewhere and hazard air travel to escape to tropical weather.

We have a Norway fjords cruise out of London and a 10 day land tour In Iceland in search of the northern lights still booked for later this year.  We will appraise the virus situation as those dates get closer and either enjoy the trips or cancel depending on future conditions.

No cruise this year (full disclosure).  BUT, I am cancelling my birthday/retirement trip to Las Vegas that was in 4 weeks.  Just way too may people in one spot.  Since I'm one of those in the category who are now being advised to stay home by CDC (over 60, pre-existing condition), I'm going to save my money (and potential losses at the craps table).  I'll go camping instead - solitary relaxation!!!

I did want to add something.  Normally, I wouldn't cancel.  But, in Winter 2018/19, I almost died to to a serious respiratory issue and discovery of having diabetes.  I'm still not 100 because I had another bout of bronchitis this Winter.  So, I'm a tad more cautious than I usually am.   Santa Claus gave me more presents this year to make camping more fun, I'm going to make good use of those presents!

We have a Baltic cruise booked for July. If that were to be cancelled I would expect it to mean that the virus is widespread, so no-where would be especially 'safe'. I think we would stay at home, as we live in a lovely area, and hope to reschedule the cruise for next year.

We did not cancel a cruise but we did change our travel plans.  Instead of going to a Thailand/SE Asia this year as we usually do we opted to be on the safe side.  Mexico for eight weeks.

We were considering returning home via FLL and picking up a last minute Caribbean cruise.  Instead...another ten days on the beach in Mexico and then home to the snow.

Oh, it's great that you can enjoy the place where you live🥰 If my cruise was canceled , I would be terribly upset 'cause summer holidays are like a breath of fresh air for me, and I'm always waiting for them the whole year. But, on the other hand, health is really more important, so I understand you

I have a cruise from Venice to Rome scheduled for July.  Hoping things settle down by then and it's a go, but trying to come up with scenarios if it's cancelled.  The cruise is for my daughter's 16th birthday, so if it gets cancelled, I'd still like to take her somewhere (I took her brother to Korea for his 16th last year).  What would YOU do if your summer cruise was cancelled?  Stay home?  Cruise somewhere else?  Vacation somewhere else?  Where else would you consider going? Looking for back up ideas here 😄

I love visiting the National Parks.   A trip to Lake Tahoe is one of my favorite places.   Yosemite National Park is only 90 miles south.   Weather is perfect.  Near 80 and low humidity.  Casino hotels too.  Fly in and out of Sacramento and you can spend a day at the Napa /Sonoma wineries.  I will be there for Memorial Day.  Love it.

Yes, summer is for vacationing and we are planning on going to Greece for a month. We have been to Greece several times and we love our time there.

I have always wanted to visit Greece - it's a beautiful country with a rich history. The only thing that stops me is that it's very hot in summer. What did you like most there?

Good for you. Our cruise/trip got cancelled and we were then going to take the little rv and do some western stuff. But then our oh-so-smart and tuned in adult daughter correctly pointed out that we could then be spreading it. So we'll be spending the coming time learning/practicing social distancing.

As far as the teenage birthday girl it may be time for her to learn that we can't get all our wants fulfilled all the time.

We live in Reno and used to live at Tahoe. The ski resorts have all shut down due to the virus. Truckee has its first case, Reno has nine. The casinos in Reno will be shutting down and I imagine South Shore will also.  Here's the latest about the wineries:  https://www.pressdemocrat.com/business/10826238-181/sonoma-county-wine-craft-beer  And our daughter just sent us info along the nat'l parks lines: https://www.sfchronicle.com/travel/article/State-Parks-Forest-Service-shut-down-visitor-15135352.php

You may want to rethink your plans.

I struggled a bit what my family would do this weekend.  My three kids came home with their SO from all over the country.   Should we self isolate, or go about our business as we usually do when we get the larger extended family together as usual as much as the local/state/national government suggested/mandated, or be much more sacrificing for the greater good of the country/world/human-kind.

I think this is in the scope of your questions.   Should I do as I could or should I sacrifice a lot for my small footprint on the larger greater good, how could my one person or family make any impact on this global problem ( pandemic, global warming, global pollution etc. etc. )

The answer at least for vacation and going out, well already decided we ain't going anywhere, things are really going to get a lot more ugly then better, if we as a human species this will be a repeat of the 1918 pandemic, bummer heh.

I'm in one of the SF Bay area counties with the stay home order.  Outdoor activities are OK as long as social distancing is strictly followed.  The order isn't just about avoiding crowds of fifty.  Any contact is to be avoided if possible.  People are not even supposed to visit a friend's house.  Winery visits, or casino hotels would not be in compliance.  I would not be surprised if the stay home order was extended to the wine country counties, but that is just a guess of course.

For certain, we will all be glad when this thing is over.

We have older friends in the city and San Mateo so we're keeping each other tuned in. I just emailed the city of Truckee to ask if they've implemented this as it's not been mentioned. They curtailed and modified some city services but no mention of the other. Since so many people who go there are from the Bay Area I think it's especially important.

STAY HOME. PERIOD. Even if you - not you, ldubs - are willing to take the risk, I don't think that should allow you to expose others.

Thanks so much. I hope that some of this is going to cause a few "aha" moments. It's going to have to change mindsets, something not easy to do. Spend time researching future travel and hope that it comes sooner than later.

I actually talked to our County's stay home hotline to get some clarification.   Making just about any contact, even if traveling outside of the county, is prohibited by the order.   Folks who do this undermine the whole point of the quarantine.

You know, I don't feel real old (at least in my mind).   I think Mrs Ldubs, who is much younger than me,  is having a little too much fun using this as an excuse to remind me how old I am.  Lol.

Going to have to be very selective in where to camp.  Moab, UT (home to 2 National Parks) is sending out press releases to implore people to NOT come to them now.  Moab is a very small town and it just does not have the medical facilities to handle anything like this.  People would have to be shipped to Las Vegas or Salt Lake City for assistance.

I haven't posted in a little while - I got caught in a snowflake storm 😉

I lost my job because the ski resorts shut down early and all our guests cancelled out.  The town got a confirmed case of "community spread" COVID-19.  A bouncer at a Main Street bar.  Saw hundreds of tourists and locals, handled hundreds of pieces of ID.  He hasn't traveled or come into known contact with another COVID-19 person.   Scares the cr*p out of me, as I deal with guests all day long.  I'm basically in self-quarantine for awhile.  I'm in that "zone" - over 60, exacerbating condition.  Our county took quick action - telling people not to come, closing all restaurants and bars to in-dining (takeout only), no 3rd party delivery services (Door Dash, UberEats, etc.), urging locals to stay home unless necessary.  It's hurting a lot of us, since we are a resort town and many, many people here are service/gig workers and we've lost our jobs.

Until it warms up a little more, I can't go camping.  Still too many chances of snow.  I'd love to go to Southern Utah, but everyone is going there now.   I have a friend who told me to come and visit her in Palm Springs, but that's a little too far to drive in one shot.   Maybe I'll put up my tent on my patio and pretend I'm somewhere - if it snows, I can walk inside.

Stay safe out there!

Hard to imagine being in Park City without having a few or more drinks at the No Name Saloon on St Patricks day or any other day.

Or, grabbing a beer with Corned Beef & Cabbage at Flanagan's...  Me?  I'm having potato chips and beer at home...

Lots of national parks (and others) questions these days. We're thinking about driving to Black Rock Desert where Burning Man is held and just dry camping for a couple of days to get out of the house.
