Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

I've come to the conclusion that it is pretty unavoidable. I'm also of the mindset that people who get the Omicron variant and are also vaccinated are probably positioned best for any other Corona viruses that come their way. So though the next few days may not be the best, in the long run this could be for the best.

I keep wondering if we should hope to get it and get over it before our March 27 cruise. Then I think about my not so good luck and decide I’d be one of the severely ill  ones.

Also, the sweeping action actually reduces the amount that a stone will curve.  I thought it was just the opposite.

That all hurts my brain.  I'd rather have an hour of curling and cocktails to try myself.  I doubt there are any curling clubs in Florida.

Yeah, that makes no sense. I thought the object of the game was to have the stone curl, since that's the name of the game.

Then again, it was invented by Scotsman in the 15th  century on frozen ponds. I'm guessing there was some strong alcohol involved. 😉

Must be a lot of transplants from the north in Florida.  Who knew? 🤷‍♂️

Something to keep the snowbirds entertained, I guess?

You have 4 days to sign up for tryouts but you need to supply your own drinks. 😇. I may signup for the Curl & Cocktail tryout in mid-March, give it shot and if I think it's something I enjoy - and can do without too much strain on my aging 57 year old bones - join the club for real next Oct. Season ends April so no sense in joining now for the last few weeks. I imagine it works like a bowling league.

I'm in the zone to learn all thing curling. There goes the rest of my day.😄

I recently learned that no one knows for sure why a curling stone moves the way it does.  If you rotate a stone counter-clockwise when you release it, it will curve to the left (and vice-versa).  This is the opposite of how other moving rotating objects on a rigid surface behave, and the opposite of what simple physics would say.  There are professors in Sweden and in Canada, two of the top countries for curling, who have conflicting theories and have both published academic papers.  Also, the sweeping action actually reduces the amount that a stone will curve.  I thought it was just the opposite.

We do have a lot of people pouring in who brought their sports and food preferences with them.
I do have to say I was a season ticket holder for ice hockey here 50 years ago, but curling is fairly new to Jax. We’ve been fans through years of Winter Olympics.

So sorry, Hope you and your wife don't turn up positive in a day or two too.

With all the precautions we have taken for the last two years we a figure if we get it now, we get it. We hope not too, but that being said Omicron seems to be in unstoppable.

Is there a place in your home Owen can isolate from the both of you?

Our home is definitely large enough, but the issue comes down to we have been with

Owen all day since Wednesday night, then Thursday when his school was closed from winter weather. From his game Friday we have spent 2 hours plus riding with him in the car, over and above sitting the the kitchen table and watching TV on the couch etc. If we are going to get it, it is meant to be. We are also both double vaccinated and boosted. Owen is double dosed and was scheduled to get his booster tomorrow.

Have you contacted the hockey tourney people?

A bit of background first. when Owen came into our bedroom at 7 this morning he was feeling off. First thing we did was as, him in what way. We then went and got the thermometer.  We then got dressed and headed downstairs. First thing we did was test him, and 15 minutes later do a retest. Once his should the positive line we tested ourselves. Before that result was finalized we already drafted a text to the coach.  We wanted to know our status before we hit send.

For the process, we swabbed the inside of our two cheeks (mouth😂) then nostrils.  We informed him of the 2 positive results for Owen, and ours being negative. We also told the coach Owen that we won’t be available until Friday when his isolation ends, along with the fact that he has to improve. We went by the provincial health guidelines. Our coach then contacted the head of our hockey association to confirm the guidelines.

The coach then confirmed to us that our guidelines were in fact correct. Our coach reached out to the tournament organizers, to which informed the two teams that we played as well.  Our coach then sent out a message on What’sApp to our team that a player had tested positive.  Due to the privacy act he cannot say who it is. Right after his message we sent out a message letting the team know that it was Owen. That two was being drafted while he was preparing his message. It was basically the same message that we sent the coach.  We got lots of messages back from the teammates of well wishes, and offers to drop items off here if needed. One asked if I needed wings delivered… sounds good to me.

On an interesting note, while watching the game on YouTube, one of the parents from a team made a comment that “they wish they could be there, except for Covid”. We played that team on Friday. Maybe there was a player that was a close contact and should have stayed home, or is asymptomatic positive or came to the tourney knowing they were sick. It just seemed to be an interesting comment.

As of now only double dosed/vaccinated people are allowed into arenas over and above to play, among many places.  That is unless they are under the age of 5.  Everyone has to wear masks inside, except when on the ice. We also know that two teammates have done rapid home tests and have tested negative. We suspect that I’d Owen is the only one to get it, it came from the other team and if not there is someone on our team that is asymptomatic.  Only time will tell.

This week the mask rule for vaccinated areas has ended.  And smoking is now allowed in the casino.

WE will be home next week, but I understand masks will be optional in all areas. We will be back for 2 more weeks the next week.

The last three weeks, water provided in our stateroom was in cans,  this week we are back to bottles .

We also visited the Next Cruise desk, and we are now signed up for enough days to reach Pinnacle next February.

Sounds like you handled it great. Your being proactive will help get the message out and protect others. As you said you are going to get it sooner or later. With these mild variants I’d rather get it now and be done with it. Too bad more parents can’t be on top of things like you guys. That’s why things spread so fast. People don’t react quick enough. Cheers to you for being on top of the situation.

Good morning from Sydney, where our first International arrivals are being welcomed today after our borders re-opened (expecting 20 flights).  Passengers were welcomed with Tim tams & jars of vegemite AND the news that all us Sydneysiders  woke up to this morning- the sudden shut down of our entire rail network…..

For what it’s worth, you and Lisa could possibly remain negative even though you were exposed from Owen.    My SIL attended a small family wedding on New Years Eve.  My daughter & 2 granddaughters didn’t go.  A few days later he had mild symptoms and tested positive. He didn’t isolate from them, figuring they had already been together before his symptoms appeared & they were therefore likely already exposed.  The 2 little ones had some cold symptoms a few days later but repeatedly tested negative.  They & my daughter apparently never caught it from him.  But they did end up getting it

just recently from an exposure at daycare.  It really is a cr*# shoot.

I hope Owen recovers quickly.

Like what we would call a strike?

Kind of.  Basically industrial action was planned for today.  Transport NSW say they couldn’t run the rail system safely.  Union says staff turned up this morning ready to work.  So each side is blaming each other.
The airport rail line from International/Domestic to Circular Quay/Wynyard is efficient so it being out of action will impact travellers today.

@Sunshine3601 thankfully with so many  set up to WFH since the pandemic the impact won’t be as bad as it could have been.  Obviously traffic on the roads  will be impacted and ubers will have surge pricing - , probably all day.

Oh yeah...Billy C was one of the greats!  Very cool that you knew him back in the day...

I'm not a huge Duke fan, but watching a game at Cameron Indoor is special.  We also saw Coach K's last Duke-UNC game at the Dean Dome.

My buddy's first one at Duke did the tenting and everything...she was a basketball nut.  It's funny the stories you hear.  Grayson Allen (rightfully) has a horrible reputation as a dirty player.  Buddy's daughter was in classes with him and told me that was the most respectful "Yes, sir" "No, ma'am" person in class that she'd ever seen.  And then on the court, totally different....

Big time UNC fan here.  Have watched games from both Cameron, Dean Smith Center and Carmichael Auditorium.  I am jealous.

Although as a Carolina fan, that had to be pure misery.

Grayson was a good player and pure evil.  I am guessing basketball released the kraken in him.

It was in the news a few weeks ago, that all but one NHL player was vaccinated and that something like 73% had tested positive at some point this season.  Most of them are fine now (I think all).

Hopefully, this is true for Owen and the rest of your family and team.

Scary stuff.

Not much sleep last night worried about since the boss bought a new house across the street the Genesis car might not be here, and since we got in so late last night, I was worried about running to the Publix to get groceries this morning.  We went to la Grignote for breakfast, had to wait an hour to get in.  Then off to Publix, the Genesis is here, but the brake warning light was dinging, like we didn’t have our seatbelts on, so we stopped at Napa, and bought brake fluid, clearly not the problem as the container was full.  I drove exceedingly carefully.  Sue was not feeling well, so we went to Conch Republic for Calamari, and Royal Red shrimp.  Picked up a Kermit’s Key LIme pie, watched the end of the Daytona 500 from recorded.  Now off to bed.

So, last March you had to mask inside any building, and the police harassed you on Duval street.  Once we left the airport last night, err this morning.  No masking required anywhere.  A few people are wearing them but I would guess less than 10%. Everything seems to be operating at 100%

Another great day on our cruise, Air Supply was super entertaining, great dinner at Le Petit Chef, then fantastic concert with Kate Taylor ( James sister) then Maria Muldaur who was totally fantastic,  she was funny talking about playing with Bob Dylan but said she called him and he couldn’t make this concert, then sang a couple of his songs, she was extremely friendly and will post a picture later of me and her.

This morning Owen woke with a temperature and feeling off. Shortly thereafter we had this result below, with some rapid home tests.  Since he hasn’t been to school since Wednesday so this gift was from the hockey tourney.  It’s the only place Lisa and I have been as well.

We have a provincial holiday on Monday so he will only miss school on Tuesday to Thursday and one hockey game. We all have to isolate to Thursday evening, but I can work from home and Lisa is a stay at home mom. This sucks.

Edit, I guess Owen is in good company with the Queen.

Oops, sorry to hear. I hope his symptoms are mild. Are there isolation rules in Canada?

That's the hardest part if he's not feeling too bad.

It took me 5 days to test positive from my catching it so possibility he could of got it from school

Hope you and Lisa stay well
