Damn the torpedoes...Full steam ahead

I've got four future cruises booked, which includes using my recently cancelled cruise credit towards another for next year.

My next cruise (hopefully) is for early November.   If that one doesn't go, I've been planning what to re-book from that cruise.    NCL just posted more cruise itineraries for late 2021 and 2022 so I'm spending some time pre-planning🛳️

I have not cancelled my cruise for July 2021 (Greek Islands).  Looking forward to it more than any vacation in the past.

If a vaccine is available sooner rather than later a cruise during the winter months would be a treat.

Me too.  I’ve always had wonderful cruises on Ncl’s ships.  I do prefer their smaller ships and I’m not big on the shows, smokey casinos and mass gathering events onboard.  I’m more about watching the sea, relaxing, and the ports.  I think there’s a lot of similar people who will be happy to resume cruising with more social distancing less pool parties and less tolerance for obvious sick people spreading viruses. I think ncl will need to figure ways to make money with potentially less crowded ships, which I’ll likely complain about but accept.  I see costs for everything going up. I was happy to lock in a mid and late 2021 sailing and will also place a deposit on a 2022 now that they’re out.  I went ahead and got insurance plans too. Figure those won’t be getting any less expensive  or exclusionary in the coming months/years.

Ditto, in addition I have never sat at a bar nor ordered a drink from the bar in my 40 or 50? cruises (I dont keep track)

I don't know if you have seen the whole 9 yards of new itineraries on NCL.com ... up to March 2023.

My head is spinning and hurting looking at them! Many brand new itineraries to the 4 corners of the globe.

Greenland, Antarctica, new embark/homeports, etc. Only thing missing is the World cruise on a single ship!

Since they put out all 2022 and part of 2023 itineraries out already (and early), I wonder about the rest of 2020 cruises .... are they going to go or be scrapped?

I would be careful with Antarctica -  you better understand the offering of ncl, i doubt very much that you would  actually touch foot on the continent, more likely Antarctic Sound. (which is basically just an area of the ocean down south)

I also booked a trip for this November. A 10 day sailing out of Athens to the Greek Islands and Turkey.  A $250 refundable deposit that allows us another few months before final payment is due and to see how this evolves.  A lot can happen in the next six months and none of us know with certainty how this will ultimately play out.  I used miles and booked our airfare to Athens.  If this trip doesn't happen, or we decide to cancel, we can cancel our airline travel and return miles back to our account.  I'm cautiously optimistic that things will improve and we begin to return to some semblance of normalcy.  At the same time, I'm not kidding myself that everything will be fine either - just a wait, see, and hope approach.

Yes, this too shall pass and when it does, we will find our way back to the ships.  Sorry about your missed cruise...For our cancelled cruise lat month I made a different drink of the day and toasted each evening to the fun we would have had.

I think that your "drink of the day" idea is brilliant. I only wish that I had thought of it myself. However it's never to late to learn from others.

My B2B on May 1st was cancelled and I've already scheduled a new B2B for next April. Life is too short, and precious to be discouraged all of the time. I send best wishes and smooth sailings to all who are planning to continue their adventures when the world will once again allow for some normalcy and safer environments.

Can I go with you?  You can stuff me in a checked bag.  Don't worry if you have the drink package, we'll share (I can hear heads exploding on the board as people read that).

And here I thought you were going to say that there would still be room in the bag for his rum runners, lol!  Yes, it is very good to see some cheerful posts to balance those dreary souls who seem to be intent on predicting nothing less than worst case scenarios.

I have been so inspired by all of these positive posts that I called and booked another Europe cruise in 2022. Used my last 2 CN cert and the balance of my FCC. I have found that cruise research can be motivational, fun and educational even if it’s 2 years out so I set my eyes on the horizon and plow forward. Life is short, make it sweet.

We already knew that we would not be setting our foot on the continent ... we still want to be able to cruise in the area for 2 days to enjoy the sights, wild sea life, etc. It's been on my bucket list for decades but the expedition cruises cost an arm and leg and there was no way we could afford them. Plus as we get older each passing year we are no longer fit for the Antarctica landings. I have already seen that some other cruise lines offering cruises in Antarctica without having to set foot on land, so I am delighted that NCL is now offering some at the fraction of cost of the expedition cruises.

Also I want to return to Falkland Islands and see the penguins in the wild!

Greenland is also on my bucket list.

Although I have been very frustrated with them in the past- I realized we are all in this together. None of this is their fault I telll myself.

Today i was looking at 2022 cruises for a milestone birthday. Although to be honest I'd be more comfortable not until then.

I was supposed to sail in 2 weeks so I am getting a little sad every day about the cancellation.

I also booked Antarctica - fingers crossed for late January 2021.  Pretty much the same thinking as yours.  Penguins!!!!!!

Just curious, what ships and itineraries has gotten your attention? We are always looking for new and different after 40 cruises.

At the moment we're interested in the following 4, so far:

Spirit: Dubai to Singapore (4 India and one Sri Lanka ports plus Thailand and Malaysia), Nov 22, 2021

Star: Antarctica, Jan/Feb 2022 (but not Jan 2021 - too soon - we're waiting for the vaccine)

Star: Greenland, July 14, 2022

Spirit: Singapore to Hong Kong with no less than 4 Vietnam ports, Oct 21, 2022

Just today our DS (26 yo) came to see us (after 6 weeks of lockdowns) and he said he's very interested in coming with us on the Greenland one.

We have been on most NCL ships: each ship has its pros and cons. Our new favourite is the Spirit (yes, after the dry dock). We go on big ships for cruises with many sea days, like TAs. Unfortunately Dawn and Star are our least faves (due to no forward observation lounge) but we will still cruise them for the itinerary. We have yet to have a bad cruise ☺️

Ha ha, about the penguins. I loved seeing them during our Dec 2009 South America cruise, and I just want to see them again.

We will wait for the vaccine to come in before we can travel, so Jan 2021 probably is too soon for us.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I must say Antarctica on the Star does sound very interesting. We also understand how you feel about the Dawn. We did a TA on the Pearl, and expecting the same experience on the Dawn. We were disappointed.

I agree with you and booked 2 cruises this week for 2021and 2022.

I enjoy cruises and i enjoy NCL even if they are not perfect.

I know there is a risk that they can go bankrupt but I support them and I take the risk to lose my 2 deposit.

I miss the happy 'welcome aboard' !!!

Look like it was a mistake. In the news today :

Norwegian Cruise Line says there’s ‘substantial doubt’ about its ability to continue as a ‘going concern,’ warns of possible bankruptcy

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/05/norwegian-cruise-line-says-theres-substantial-doubt-about-its-ability-to-continue-as-a-going-concern.html

So I just canceled my 2 cruises but they say 90 days for refund of my 500$ deposits (2*250). Not sure if i will see my money back. I feel stupid.😖

When an NCL ship returns to Boston,  ready to take us to Bermuda, we'll happily book.  Right now we can't even go to the hairdresser, barber shop, or shopping at Marshall's, so a cruise in the future will be welcome when safe to do so.

I'm interested in three of these. I did Hong Kong to Singapore a few years ago though we missed half the ports due to the famous Star engine problems so I probably won't do that route again.

I was super bummed to see the NCL finance news but I have some cruise next certificates that I am not getting the money back on anyway so why not hold a cruise or two and show that there is still interest in cruising.

I currently have a December 2020 cruise out of Miami that I'll probably cancel before final payment if they aren't cruising again or in a better financial position. Who knows if I will get that deposit back either. I have no burning desire to throw money away but I also have over 20 years of great memories with NCL and I really would like there to be more so I guess I'm going to keep hoping and hold out as long as I can.

All Hands, Brace for Impact.  Best to put those life vests and find your way to the Muster Station.  This is not a drill.  Repeat, this is NOT a drill.

NCL sounded their own general alarm (it is the "hot" thread - Substantial Doubt of "Going Concern") on the basis of its own SEC filing, made public.

Twenty years of cruising with NCL here.
