Vaccination cards will be issued to track of C!9 shots.  This is in coordination with

DOD, CDC & HHS.   Also a way for Cruise Lines, Airlines, etc. in case they require proof before traveling.

See the following article,

Covid-19 Vaccination Recipients Will Receive Vaccine Card - Travel Codex

Great you can travel around the US, all that's needed now is for all the countries that cruise lines go to or airlines fly to, to  accept them as genuine official documents like a passport or driving licence. Will the US then reciprocate the same type of vaccination/appointment cards from all the other places in the world.

The vaccination card shows you have had the vaccine, it does not answer all the other medical questions that are still up in the air and we may not know for years.

In the UK they are supposed to be used as a reminder, a way to contact authorities if you have a reaction and to quickly check which vaccine and batch you have had so you do not cross match vaccines in the future not as legal proof of immunity.

Who holds the registry to check these are genuine in your own country and who can access it, who holds legal responsibility for your personal data protection, will foreign nations have access to other countries databases of those vaccinated to check if there is an outbreak on land or at sea.

Who will bear the responsibility for medical exemption certificate, who is or will be medically exempt.

Who bears the cost of all this administration? so private companies can operate

So many issues yet to be resolved in regards to international travel.

A International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) card may be the answer but there may be issues transcribing your appointment card onto an internationally recognised document

Well those certainly look like something that can easily be forged/copied.  Not impressed if this is all that will be required as proof of vaccination.

As an application for cruising, I can see this is part of data/personal info required when you check in on-line.  Just like passport data, I can see this info to be part of the manifest that is transmitted to US authorities.

That assumes the federal government has the means to track it.  Currently there is no federal tracking or database of vaccinations.  They'll have to create one before they can track them and that isn't a simple undertaking.

There have been reports that CVS and Walgreens are developing an app that will provide the tracking information. Not sure where this is in development, or whether it will be adopted widely.

There were 3rd parties floating ideas of tracking apps.  The business model would have any venue like a movie theater, ballpark, cruise line, airline, etc.  paying a small fee to access their database.

People have floated the idea of CLEAR taking on this role but who pays for it?  Any time a private business is involved, they'll want money.

The reason it needs to be tracked on a federal level is so that business don't have to subscribe or negotiate access to dozens of 3rd party private companies like CLEAR, CVS or Walgreens.

There are significant privacy concerns when any company (or government) can track your movements, what movies you went to see, what sport activities, what bars or restaurants you visit, etc.   Every business that taps their database to verify your vaccine allows them to track you.  You leave a digital footprint with every peek into your vaccination record.

A vaccination card was chosen to avoid opening this can of worms but they can more easily be replicated by fakers.

It's probably something that needs to be addressed for the next pandemic but it's unlikely to be in place for this one.  It will take a while to figure it out.

Having worked in acquisition for the Fed Gov, I can tell you, it would take upwards of a year to write and then put out an RFC and then do the source selection, award the contract and start the work, and that's assuming no one contests the award.  If anyone thinks Gov employees would be doing this, then you don't know how it works.  The Gov contracts out for  a lot of things, technical  in particular and works as the oversight authority to monitor and amend as needed within the scope of the contract.  So, you're looking at probably one year at a minimum.  Can they buy off the shelf software?  Yes, but they still have to hire people to do the actual work or once again award a contract and anything they purchase would more than likely have to be edited to fit the bill.  So, anyone who thinks this will happen with this vaccine rollout, they would be wrong.  The card is no different really than the shot record booklet that Dr's used to record vaccines in and people used to travel to certain countries.

But, anyone who makes up a fake card isn't really benefitting themselves because if they get sick, what exactly have they accomplished?

You'll need Covid ID to go to a restaurant or football game but no ID required to vote... That is rational.

They get to do the activity they desire without having to take the vaccine they refuse to take.

I was just reading an article about this concerning Canada. Each province has their own Healthcare Database but they don't exchange data between them. The feds would like to have a central database to  know who was given the shot and if there was a reaction. Anyway, it is being worked on but it won't be ready in time they start giving shots which is sometime next week.  Some kind of temporary setup will happen.

I'll assume some kind of card will be given to people. Will that be necessary if you want to get on a plane or visit a country? I suspect it might.

The type of paper card shown in the article can be useful as a personal reminder. It is useless as a form of reliable proof to third parties.  Plus there is no "central registry" and no time to create one, as millions of people are going to get vaccinated very soon, maybe next week.

We had 8+ months to develop a system to provide proof of vaccination.  It looks like the best we could do is ink on a paper slip, like the 1920s.   I commend the efforts of Walgreens and CVS, but in coming months Americans will be getting vaccines at thousands of different locations--drugstores, hospitals, special vaccination clinics, tribal health clinics, military locations.  The attendant paperwork will be far from uniform.  I think this will undercut many thoughtful efforts to build protective systems around the idea that there will be "proof of vaccination."

That would be their problem when they do get sick.

The election is OVER!

It hasn’t been called in Canada yet, and we have to show ID here to vote.

Edit: there are illusions that a Federal one could/might be called at any point in time.

What would you recommend?

As others have mentioned it would take time to develop something, but if all people are relying on is this little piece of paper, then it it totally pointless to require proof of immunization.

From the linked article "“Everyone will be issued a written card that they can put in their wallet that will tell them what they had and when their next dose is due,” Moore said."

It's just a piece of paper that, like some have said, could be easily forged and is nothing official.

They have to develop something with a bar code that can be scanned into a database.
