Good Morning Everyone from a warm and sunny day at the beach.

I am so thankful for this thread.  Dont remember when I actually found it because I was staying off CC because of all the negativity. But not here!!  The stories, the pictures, the menus and the overall feeling of community and support is beyond words.

The news on my BIL is not good. He was starting to do OK, but now he has been on a respirator and unresponsive since Saturday.  It is too much. The rest of the family all 17 have recovered. Thankfully.

 Be Safe

Charlene

Sorry to hear this. How sad for everyone.

Good morning all!

First, @cunnorlI am so sorry to hear the news about your BIL. I was hoping he would be one of the luckier ones.   So many times it seems that the patient starts doing better just before taking a drastic downturn...I wonder why that is.

@HAL4NOWI had never heard of Curlew, WA and I'm a native of the state...(also had to Google Curlew!)

The meal sounds very good today, we love pot pie -- but prefer it with my pie crust instead of biscuits.  Not quite so bready.

Last night got down to 26F, I think one last winter's hurrah because it was the only night  predicted to get that cold.  Now a warming trend is coming, yay!

I've been to Monte Carlo only once, back in 2008, I think it was our 4th cruise and we went with my sister and BIL.  We didn't spend much time in town, other than people watching outside the casino and gawking at the yachts and fancy cars!  We took the train to Nice, had lunch and wandered a bit, then took the bus from there to Eze.  I loved Eze, it was the best part of the day and the whole day was wonderful, great memories.  Our tender ride was also pretty wild.   My photos from back then aren't the best, so I won't post them.  (I can't believe it's been that long and we haven't been back).

I do remember that we all were positive we saw Princess Caroline leaving the casino.  It definitely looked like her, the right age, and she (whoever she was) had an entourage of security.

Just back from my periodontist for a follow up and 3-D X-ray on my surgery back in December.  All is looking good - what a relief. (And no, Roy, I don’t need to be on the Celebratory list) - I am just relieved.

Now, I’ll play catch up on the thread and  start with a few pics of Monaco that I found.

Monaco is pretty flat but once you get outside, you climb huge hills and have some fabulous scenery.

The day started out foggy but here is the pic anyways....our ship was docked.  If you are visiting Monaco, check the number of ships in port.  We have been on a tender once and docked several times.  Docking is so much nicer 🙂

Monaco is pretty from afar

See the road in the middle of town?  That’s the famous race way.

Even on the highway going from place to place, there are some nice sights (and fabulous views).

Once you get out of Monaco and visit the smaller towns, it’s a whole new world.  Most of the towns like Eze & Nice are higher up.  They date back centuries and were originally deliberately built high up to be safe from pirates.

I am trying not to duplicate other pics already shown.

And flowers abound.  I don’t need to tell you that Kazu bought flowers, do I?

Monte Carlo is a fabulous port.  If it were on the itinerary again, we would happily return and use the same guide we have used every time.

How sad to hear of your BIL's lack of progress; that's distressing.  We just learned this morning of a friend of ours in Washington state who has been in hospital for the past 2 weeks with covid, and at age 83 has said he doesn't want to be put on a ventilator.  The wait continues to see what happens, as the prognosis isn't good.  Prayers for everyone battling this terrible virus.

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Gerry

Oh Gerry, I am so sorry to hear this 😢

May prayers for your friend. 🙏🏻   So sad to hear this 😞

Thanks for the daily which I read every day with my coffee and thanks for the care list. Roy, you can take my DH off the care list. Every possible test has come back normal with a diagnosis of nothing . So, we’ll take it.

Stay safe everyone.

Carol

Good morning and thanks all!
That wine sounds great Anne,  I used to be so confused with the Nobile d’ Montepulciano and the Abruzzo.  Totally two different wines, both good,  this looks like one to try!
@cunnorlso sorry to hear things are not well!  Praying for a turnaround!

We’ve been to Monaco twice, once by land once by sea.   We have friends who live in Nice and have enjoyed that area.  Recommend St. Paul de Vence, and Eze,   But watch out for those polished cobblestones!

We also enjoy going east to the Italian Riviera and Imperia,  we made it to a regatta one year,  JFK’s former yacht was there!

I just read Cunnorl's post. Sad is not the word. It's awful, especially the way it came about. Our hearts go out to her and her family. From reading other posts here, it is evident she is not alone, but that does not decrease the hurt for her.

One of my oldest and dearest friends died in a Berlin hospital last week from a Covid inspired lung infection. He was in good health until he happened to catch Covid. As we all know, it's an awful virus.

Cunnorl, know our thoughts are with you as you deal with the tragedy of this.

Good morning.  All the days are worth honoring.  As a journalism major (many, many years ago), I realize the importance of freedom of information, but realize the people's right to know has it's limits.  I remembered curlews were birds, but had to look up what they look like.  Who can't fall in love with pandas

@cunnorl  Charlene, so horrible that your BIL is worse.  Here's hoping he is one of the lucky ones that survive the ventilator as many have.  You and all your family are in our thoughts.  Does that horrible person who caused all this even know what they have done to your family?  This isn't very nice, but it reflects my feelings, I hope the memory of what their selfishness caused your family haunts them the rest of their life.

@mamaofami  Celebrating the good news about your DH's test results.

We have been to Monaco eight times beginning in 2001, shortly after 9/11, but that's another story.  On that first visit, our first to Europe, we took ship's tours in all the ports to get an idea of various ports.  Since then, we have always done our own thing including trains to Nice and Cannes, walking around town, local buses and finally in 2019 the Ho-Ho.   We've also done the car museum and the aquarium.  Isn't that "hidden" elevator to the top nice?  I'll go through my pictures later and see if I can find some that have not been posted.

I'm wondering if the appliance jinx is trying to move in here.  The dryer is still working, but with a quirk.  When I put clothes in on the air only cycle, the heating element still works -- sometimes very hot and others just warm.  As long as it does dry the clothes' when I can't hang them out, I can live with the quirk.

Joy, we bonded as Sisters on the Daily, but we recognized each other as kindred spirits during the saga of Kindergirl, Copper John and her Mom & Stepdad.

Does any one know how Kindergirl's parents are doing now?  I haven't found anything since Kindergirl returned to Canada.

I got my second shot scheduled for Thursday next week.  I also got a freezer and lawn swing delivered today. It was 21 degrees outside when the guy brought them.  Last year I couldn’t find either as they were out of stock everywhere.  I am so ready for spring. I noticed that sun rise and sun set are the same time today, just twelve hours apart. 7:15.

Good morning, all! Happy Anniversary to the Daily! I started as a lurker shortly after the precarious journey home from Perth on March 24. We had not expected to be home for nearly two more months, and arrived to a world we didn’t recognize. It was months before I made my first post. You have all been my lifeline this past year. Thank you, @richwmnfor opening your Fleet Report to all of us, to @rafinmdfor the lists and keeping track of our individual woes and victories. Thank you @summer slopeand @cat shepardfor the drink and wine descriptions, and @dfishfor recipes for the meal of the day. Thank you @kazu, your cartoons always make me laugh even on a bad day, @DeeniEncinitasfor sharing your beautiful artwork, and for everyone for the photos of journeys, pets, and gardens. You have created a safe haven and a family I am honoured to be allowed to join.

And for my own tiny contribution, Happy Tuesday from our beloved elevator mats!

Did you see the news article about the event? I might still have it, if you did not.  Just let me know.

I seem to remember Kindegirl saying her Mom was a CC roll call person, and reader, but not much of a poster. Or I could be totally wrong.

It was nice to hear the mention of St. Paul de Vence.  Another medieval type village that I adored.  I wish I knew which ship, year and port I was in when we visited there.  I will have to search my photo books for an answer.

@cunnorlI am sad to hear the news of your BIL's latest report.  I hope he can keep fighting this and pull through, so will pray for him.  Thank goodness the rest of the family have recovered!

My MIL in her nursing home is doing fantastic for a woman of her age (94), having had Covid in between her two Covid vaccination shots.  She was put on hospice care last fall because she was not eating enough and declining, but I think she may not need to be on hospice care anymore.  They say she is eating a lot now.  Then she likes to take a nap but who doesn't after a hearty meal?  If only they could get her to stand and take a step or two and build herself up.  If I were my sister-in-law, who lives 4 miles away from the nursing home in Missouri, DH and I would be there daily to get her out of the bed and try to take a few steps with her walker.  Unfortunately, SIL has not seen her mother in 54 weeks.  She is afraid of catching Covid from her or someone else at the nursing home. 😳  Funny, DH, DS, DD, and I all came from out of state to see her while we were all unvaccinated and none of us became ill.  DSIL will have her second vaccination in the near future and let's see how long it takes her to get over there.  I may have to take the "D" off the DSIL if this attitude keeps up much longer!!🙄
