@Overhead Fred  HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!  🥂  A BHB is a great place to celebrate an anniversary.

I hope I don't get in trouble posting something about Princess on this thread, but it is related to our first visit to Nagasaki.  In 2002, while the Diamond Princess and the Sapphire Princess were being built there, the Diamond caught fire and was pretty much gutted.  In order to meet the launch deadline, the Sapphire became the Diamond.  This is what greeted us when we arrived in Nagasaki.

This a typical shopping arcade that is found in many Japanese cities.  There was a pachinko parlor part way down, and DH went in to see if he could figure out the game.  Even then, I'm not sure if we really understand it.

This is a comparison of the send offs between the two stops in Nagasaki.  The first two were in 2002 on the Volendam, and the last was taken in 2005 on the Pacific Princess.

Aren't they wonderful??  For our 50th on the Nieuw Statendam the word got out and we were given anniversary cakes (MDR, Pinnacle Grill, and the Canaletto).  Our faces were perpetually red!

Happy Twin Birthday @StLouisCruisers!

We woke this morning to the realization that it is our anniversary! It really snuck up on us since the days seem to run together during the pandemic. I had to get the calculator out to see that it is #33! I'm not quite sure how to celebrate, but it should involve champagne (or prosecco). We don't want to go out anywhere, it may be too rainy for grilling, we have lots of ham leftovers....

For our anniversary in 2018, we were in Malaga on the Koningsdam. We quite liked the port and certainly plan on getting back to Spain.

Good morning all , another nice port today from Rich , Nagasaki , we were there on Oct 18 , 2017 on the Volendam . As a matter of fact we were suppose to go there for a second time a couple of weeks later but for political reasons , “ bad”  weather and an extra day in Shanghai our itinerary was changed and we had to cancel our tour for the second day in Nagasaki .

So our tour through Nagasaki was likely quite different than what many others have done , with our small group and Miyuki our guide we first went by streetcar to the Mt Inasa Observation platform ( 333 m )  to have a great view of Nagasaki and learned of its history.DSCN4206.thumb.JPG.666f7c87e474b09384d3a02791320461.JPG

From there we visited Dejima , formally a small island first occupied by the Portuguese and taken over by the Dutch . From this small island all the trade was conducted between Europe and Japan in the 1800’s .

After a nice lunch in Chinatown , we went by streetcar to Teramachi where we visited a number of temples all very close to each other . The most famous one the Kofukuji temple ( Zen Sect.- 1620  )

That  wine sounds yummy!  But the $.  Good thing I’m happy with J Lohr!

We haven’t been to Nagasaki, booked next year. Japan has been one of our most favourite trips ever, but we did visit Hiroshima.  So a couple of photos from there.

@sailingdutchy  Enjoyed the pictures of a different part of Nagasaki.

@Cruising-along  The guys and gals on the BHBs do make birthdays and anniversaries special.  We’ve celebrated several of each on the dam ships over the years.  We celebrated our 50th in 2017 in the Pinnacle on the Prinsendam.  We told them it was our 50th, but wanted it low key, and that is what they gave us.  The wine stewardess added fresh strawberries to the rim of our champagne flutes and took our pictures.  When the cake was brought out everyone stopped by to wish us Happy Anniversary but without singing.  It was a perfect evening.

As I thought, I was only in Nagasaki once.  I remember getting a special welcome there because the Crystal Harmony, like the Diamond and Sapphire Princess was among a handful of cruise ships built there by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and they put out the welcome mat for "their" cruise ships.  Wikipedia lists only 6 cruise ships built there so it's a bit of a special event.

Good morning everyone and Happy Thursday!

Happy Birthday to @StLouisCruisers and her twin!  🎂🥳🎈

Happy Anniversary to @Overhead Fred and Mrs Overhead Fred!!! 🍾

Thank you for the Daily Rich and thank you for your lists Roy.

I love all of today’s celebrations, especially the zoo. We have a nice zoo but I haven’t been in a while. We have also been at the Honolulu Zoo @Marmot@Sea but it was in 1983 so many moons ago. The San Diego Zoo is special and a must see if you ever have time there, it’s huge.

Today’s meal suggestion sounds good, I regularly make farfalle for DGD, it’s her all time favorite and number one request. I started making it using mini farfalle when she was really little and still do if I can find it, it’s been hard to find during the pandemic. However for us tonight we are having Mediterranean chicken drumsticks with roasted peppers, hummus, cucumbers and flat bread.

We have not been to today’s port but enjoying all the pictures.

Have a great day everyone!

Good day to all of you.  A bit of good news:  I was able to go to our library and check out a couple of books yesterday.  It has been more than a year.  We have been to Nagasaki but when I searched for some pictures all I could find was Hiroshima.  We are scheduled to visit Nagasaki again on 6 March 2022 on the Noordam.

Good morning everyone,

I've been meaning to post for several days but got sidetracked.

Zoos - We went to the Anchorage Zoo in 2019 when we were on the Amsterdam. We did a ship's tour (we have a scooter for DH for mobility so it's easier ) and we did a behind-the-scenes tour. It was fun and the staff was great. We've been to the San Diego Zoo and Woodland Park Zoo multiple times. Stanley Park, in Vancouver BC, had a small zoo when I was growing up.

Pool - our local Health Club opened up water aerobics this week so I've been there 3 times and loving it! I've done Aqua Freestyle once, Aqua Arthritis twice and Aqua Zumba today. It's so nice to be back in the water and it's good for my body.

Books - @VictOriann Have you read the book When We Were Young and Brave? I thought of you when I read it. I am currently working through the Sue Henry series that are set in Alaska. She passed away this past fall and I hadn't read any. Now I've read 11 of the mysteries and have 4 of the Maxie and Stretch ones to read.

Birthdays - Happy Birthday and Anniversary to all who are celebrating! Our 44th anniversary is tomorrow and we got married on the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Sunday in Coquitlam, BC. It was a long weekend so it made traveleing easier for our guests. Another bonus was it was my 24th birthday so I'm 68 tomorrow. DH has had many medical issues so I'm just grateful to have him with us (and he'll be 81 next month).

Have a great day!

Karen

What a coincidence!  On April 8, 2017 I was in Nagasaki on the Volendam.  We were supposed to arrive at 1PM and leave at 9 PM.  Not being 4 or 5 star Mariners, we were not allowed off for quite some time.  Immigration took forever.  We mainly wanted to get to the Peace Park and Atomic Bomb Museum. I think the museum closed at 5:30 and they closed the entrance 30 minutes before that.  So we rushed like crazy to make it in time. Barely made it.  Wanted to see the Glover Garden near the port, but by then it was getting dark and raining.  Hope to get back there some day.

Below is the tram we took to the Peace Park.

Part of the sign was in English, thank goodness.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

Another warm, sunny day here. I just took the big comforter and flannel sheets off the bed as it's too warm for that! We have our MLB home opener today - some years the temp was in the 40's, today low 80's.

I like the days, although I can't draw (well, haven't really tried).

Good meal and drinks.

I haven't been to today's port, and appreciate all the pictures.

@StLouisCruisers Happy Birthday! To your sister also.

@Overhead Fred Happy Anniversary!

Prayers to the care list and cheers to the celebration list.

Stay safe all.

I'm not a great fan of zoos - prefer to see the animals in their natural habitat, but the Wild Animal Park adjunct of the San Diego Zoo was a wonderful spot to spend the day when my cousin took us there in 2009.
