Now that the cruise pause is still pausing, what are your alternate vacation plans?

Since no cruises last year we bought annual passes to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. The beginning of May we are staying at a resort there (cabana bay) for the week! For the $1600 for our family of 3 (top passes) they for sure kept us pretty entertained, dare I say more than a cruise! We also only live an hour from Orlando!

Heading to DisneyWorld on 5/1 after 4 cancellations!  Going to feel weird going from staying away from people to thousands of people near us.  Fully vaccinated, and packing lots of masks and hand sanitizer!  Have eaten in a restaurant once since covid began (last week - Applebees) but will be attempting to find eating places in our comfort zone at Disney - or else we will be ordering a lot of food to go!

We have so many great restaurants in Florida with outside dining. There's no reason to have to rely on takeout food unless it's just your preference. We've been eating outside since restaurants reopened for onsite dining last year. We've stayed very healthy.

We’ve taken a few beach vacations in Puerto Rico during the last year. We have it down to a science. Easy peasy.

At the kids request, we went to Orlando for their Spring Break a few weeks ago. That felt like hell. Yes, the rides were fun, but we are simply not amusement park people. Why people enjoy amusement parks, and some do it repeatedly, is well beyond my level of comprehension. But I’m sure that other people look at me and wonder why I like cruising, so to each their own.

I know - we have a condo in FLL which has great outdoor dining.    However, most of the table service restaurants in Disneyworld (not including Disney Springs, which we will not have time to get to) have inside dining only.  So we may order food to go and just find a table somewhere outside and eat.  All good.

No reason to be paranoid about dining inside.   We live in NJ and have been going to restaurants and eating inside twice a week ever since they opened back up at 25% capacity.  Almost 1/3 of NJ restaurants have closed because of the pandemic and we feel we should do our little part to try to keep a few local spots open.

After our spring break 2021 cruise on Panorama got cancelled, we pivoted and went to Club Med Cancun in March instead - we wanted an all inclusive experience with a cruise type destination

it was an incredible experience - the food was much better than any cruise line that we have sailed and the resort was beautiful.

We will be back to cruising in 2022 though, since we rebooked for the Pride in Europe

I went to Disney World the first of January- that was great. I also took my son to Dallas and might look at going to maybe San Antonio in Texas. Mostly on pause as the country is a mishmash of different rules and policies not just from state to state but locality to locality and it's too time consuming to try and investigate every single place. I have a couple of cruises booked and I'm just in a holding pattern.

We are headed to Austin, TX to stay on Lake Travis and rent a boat in June. We also are planning on renting a Villa in Puerto Vallarta for the end of July. Our entire family is fully vaccinated and we haven’t seen our parents or grandparents in 2+ years. I would love to cruise this fall if possible.

Live near the beach and beautiful local springs, campgrounds and such to hold me over till cruising gets started again. Victory Casino ship and local fishing charters will do for day sailing.

I do have a flight to Salt Lake City in June where I will pick up granddaughter and head out on a road trip to Grants Pass, OR to visit her Grandma and my very senior mother in law that I love dearly. She’s not traveling anymore so we are going to her.

DW and I are longing to relax on a big boat but it does not seem likely for a while.  We are planning a getaway to Gatlinburg TN, a part of the country we've never spent time in, and a week exploring Costa Rica, to see all of the natural wonders there - rain forests, birds, wildlife, volcanoes, etc..  How about you? (And why that spot?)

Banking my vacation time to use on a cruise for next year and doing a few smaller/long weekend trips.

Blue Ridge, VA in September

OBX, NC in March 2022

I would love to check out Gatlinburg.

To all those going to Gatlinburg, TN ....a big thank you !!  We live in Tennessee and you will love Gatlinburg, the city has a mask mandate until May but most everywhere in the state we don’t.  Our Covid numbers have been low and we have been open since last May at various capacities depending on the individual countries.  Hope you enjoy your stay in Tennessee!!

Spending five nights in Key West. I live 5 miles from the Gulf. I will spend the summer on the beach and golf course. A cruise is a nice vacation, but not the only type of vacation. For those going to Gatlinburg, they have a really nice acguarium.

Gatlinburg was our go to every august when the grandkids came down for the summer before they went back to school.we took a break for a few years now we are ready to go back.

We are finally fully vaccinated, so we feel comfortable flying again.  We are in Florida right now.  Love it!  We will be flying to see family members in Colorado in June, Montana in July, then I have the cruise booked in August.  If it doesn't sail, then we will keep our flights to Florida and vacation there that week..   It feels great to be able to finally visit our elderly family members now that all of us have been vaccinated.

We will probably throw in a few more trips to Florida this year.

LOL, no. I’m more of a “both eyes closed and death grip on the handle bar” rollercoaster guy.
