Good morning!!

I was glad to see today is Tuba day.  When my younger DS was in elementary school, they were allowed to choose an instrument to learn.  He came home and said he had two choices - flute or tuba.  Of course, he chose tuba!! (he was a big kid so it wasn't overpowering him).  He continued to play all the way through college (even got a small scholarship for it), but the best was when he performed in Rockefeller Center in NYC with Tuba Christmas.  We went in, and there were over 700 tubas on the ice and under the Christmas tree, and the sound was absolutely amazing!!  It kind of wrapped you in sound, and was very impressive.  Now that he's an adult, his tuba is sitting in its case somewhere in the house - maybe someday he'll pick it up again!!

@StLouis Cruiserprayers for your sister and her surgical team. Hoping the surgery goes well and she recovers quickly.

Prayers always for every one of our Daily family who are dealing with medical problems!!

Have a great day,

Laura

These are just a few of the pictures of the Beagle Channel.  When we were in Ushuaia, we did a tour to Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego and to the end of the Pan American Highway.  At that point, it was Highway 3 from Buenos Aires,  The last few miles of the highway are not even paved.

First, @StLouisCruisers posted a picture of the monument at Cape Horn.  This is the lighthouse, and the keeper's house on Cape Horn.

Good morning to all. Another bright, sunny day here. I will be spending most of the day running errands after I haul a bunch of junk to the front of the building for our Spring cleanup.

I have been to Beagle Channel 3 5 times.... once on the QE2 which was not allowed docking in Ushuaia (they were very sensitive about her role in the Falkland War) and then again on the Amsterdam and finally on the Princendam. Enjoyed all 3. Maybe someday again.

All the meals recently have really looked good, but I am trying to watch carbs so tonight will be a seared Rockfish with a veggie platter. Disgustingly healthy. And maybe I will splurge and fix that gin fizz. After a day of hauling trash I am due for a treat.

@StLouis CruiserBest wishes to your sister.

Thanks Rich for your daily report. Prayers for you Roy and all on your list. It’s nice enough today I may take the dog out for a short kayak adventure. Yesterday I got it out and down on the boat ramp but chores called me back. Thanks all for being here.

@StLouisCruisers Prayers for your sister.   I hope all goes well for her today.

Thanks to those who cleared up slow cooker/crock pot and instant pot/pressure cooker for me.  I remember when capris were pedal pushers.  We have a habit of reinventing.  Although, if the instant pot can also be a slow cooker, it seems like a great reinvention.  One appliance is better than two, especially in a small kitchen like mine.   I survived for a long time with an oven and four burners.

I have sailed the Beagle Channel on my 2011 Antarctica trip on the Veendam.   That cruise ranks high on my list of favorites.  The pictures I have are the same as what has been posted so that relieves me of the chore of finding them.  It is a beautiful part of the world and I am looking forward to returning someday.

Good morning. Thanks for the Daily.

Good days, especially National Prayer Day. I like the meal and drinks except for the Gin Fizz.

I have been to Beagle Channel. We couldn't dock at Ushuaia due to winds.

It's rainy and chilly here again and the rest of the week.

Today is also my mother's birthday. She was born in 1904 and has been gone since 1993. She adopted me as a single woman when she was 50 and I was a week old. I still miss her.

My CT scan is scheduled for next Wednesday. Thanks @rafinmd Roy for putting me on the care list. I know everyone's getting excited to travel. The past year of trial meds for my eyes has really had an effect on my health. I need to start slowly getting in shape if I hope to travel again.

@dfish The Instant Pot is a brand of pressure cooker, but I also slow cook and make yogurt in mine.

@StLouisCruisers  Praying for your sister.

Prayers for the care list and cheers to the celebration list.

Stay safe everyone.

A couple of pics.

Today's sunrise is the first from a 2015 pair of cruises, Crystal Serenity Miami to Lisbon, followed by a Prinsendam Kiel Canal cruise.  On May 7,  the Crystal Serenity anchored in Bermuda:

dawn0507.jpg

It was  a 2-day call but tendering in Bermuda is slow and awkward.  The  first day I saw the Veendam docked in downtown Hamilton, and later watched her sail away from Serenity's decks:

Once I got on the Prinsendam I booked the Veendam for 2016.

Tuba Day!!!  How wonderful!  I'm a brass freak in general and the tuba is a favorite of mine.  Was friends with the former tubists of both the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.

Now, mind you, the bell-up Bbb concert tuba is most definitely a different instrument from the "oompah" marching tuba and sousaphones that you hear in high-school and college marching bands.

And for those who think that they don't like solo tubas I challenge you to listen to Ralph Vaughan Williams' Tuba Concerto in F major or Vincent Perischetti's Parable XXII for Solo Tuba.  That's music!!

Eeewwww.  Talk about obsessions.  OK, I'm done now.😆

Good morning, all! My brother had the tuba in the school band one year. It was not popular at home. One night, he decided that while the family was asleep and not trying to watch TV or listen to the radio was the perfect time to practice. Long story short, it was not.  Dad set firm rules on tuba practice on the spot. On an unrelated note, if you ever need to wake the dead, a tuba will outdo a trumpet hands down.

Ive found the quote to be very true. The pot roast sounds delicious, as does the drink. I even have the ingredients at hand. (For the drink, but not the pot roast.)

We cruised Beagle Channel on the Amsterdam early last year after leaving Antarctica. I have a few pics.

Well, something is going on.  I can log into the HAL webpage and get to my account.  Under bookings my cruise is listed, but they won't let me access my cruise details.  It says it can't contact the server.  This is on multiple browsers.

The excitement for the day is a water main break across the street.   I noticed the water bubbling up and out from under the grass in the tree lawn on my way home from the pool.  I called the water department and no one had called it in yet.   The water was flooding the street and almost ready to overflow the curb.   Just walked down to the workmen a few minutes ago and they said that this happened down the street a few weeks back and due to the sloped driveways (they slope down as they are bilevel houses and the garage is on the lower floor) a couple people lost everything on the lower floor.   We caught this one in time.  The people in the houses where the leak is are all at work.

Today's wine sounded very familiar. It turns out Big Easy Chenin Blanc is part of Cellar #3 in HAL's wine package (Sommelier Suite). We got it more than once so we must have liked it!

Ah ha!  That’s why that wine rang a bell with me 😉. Thanks.  🙂

I don’t blame you a bit 🙂. The only times we have been to Bermuda we docked on the Prinsendam.  The locals loved her.  They called her a “real ship” and welcomed us all warmly 😄

I found some places where people had posted HAL wine lists and added them to the suggested wine list. Any time the listing shows RED / WHITE / SPARKLING that is where the wine came from.

Me too!   Sandi, I always have trouble with your name,  but want to add my positive thoughts and prayers!

Good morning, love the prayer and tourism day.  I will be so thankful when we can move freely again.  We were advised yesterday to stay in our county!  So grateful DS now has a vaccine appointment!  Our numbers are the highest in North America!

My error, apologies!

The instrument on the left is a tuba; the one on the right, and the one featured in the Ohio State band is a sousaphone. Although the sousaphone is a redesigned tuba, originated by the famous John Philip Sousa, there IS a difference

The recipe of the day sounds delicious.  Will make it if I ever get to got to a grocery store to pick out the roast.  I hate ordering meat online, and not picking it myself.

Love using the Instant Pot. I have yogurt on now.  I use it all the time, but don't like the slow cooker feature.  I find it doesn't cook well.

Dinner tonight will include asparagus, the first pick from my son's garden.  DGS was excited to give it to us.

@Copper10-8Thanks - loved watching the marching band.  That tuba player was great.

Yes, the Ohio State band is pretty awesome and makes my fav band, the UCLA Bruins, look pale in comparison! Having said that, I still like the Texas Aggies (Texas A&M University) band. They are incredible
