More restrictions for unvaccinated passengers

Recommended Posts

I just thought I should offer a little clarification because i realize, in hind sight, that my post regarding children and their families status is probably being misinterpreted by some.  That is my fault. I wish I was a better writer.

As I have noted on other threads, I'm vaccinated and recovered from Covid. I have exceptional hand hygiene and have a very hardy immune system.  As far as I am concerned I'm Covid bullet proof.  I have no problem with unvaccinated people on my cruise.  I just want the hypocrisy to stop where posters gripe about unvaccinated adults while bringing their unvaccinated children on board. If you want to bring your unvacc'd kids on board, God bless you, you do you.  Just don't post complaints about Royals decision to not require vaccine of Adults in Florida and your unvacc'd kids mixing and mingling with unvacc'd adults and don't complain about the you and your group being subject to the same restrictions groups with unvacc'd adults subject too.

Well according to RCL, the ships will be in better shape than anywhere on land. With kids starting school in 6-8 weeks, why would they not want to go on a a ship w/ 95% vaxed vs a school w/ a much much lower % ?

RCL is saying vaccinations aren’t mandatory, just Celebrity. So much for the 95% with them. What would you expect them to say “We’re floating petri dishes, sail at your own risk”? Comparing cruises with schools is like comparing apples and oranges.

The fact is you and everybody else doesn't have to take a cruise. If you don't like the protocols, don't go. It's really pretty simple folks. The other alternative is to start your own cruise line and establish the rules as you see fit.

And since it is the end of the day on the 2nd of July it is coming in the not so distant future the CSO becomes a recommendation as of the 18th since I haven't heard of any submissions via the mediation to submit an more narrowly worded CSO.

And no the extension that the judge just gave them is for the lawsuit not the injunction.

Given that one of the reasons given behind the extension granted a couple of days ago was a decision on appeal, my bet is that you will see an appeal of the preliminary injunction filed on or before the 18th.  Anyone who believes that the CDC is just going to slink away with its tail between its legs is seriously misguided.

The problem is that I don’t foresee a future without COVID and we won’t put our lives on hold indefinitely.  We are fully vaccinated but currently have no intention of vaccinating our children.  My husband is a physician so I’ll trust his assessment of the risk, thanks.

Good luck.  I hope it is worth the risk and I wish you the best

If you think it's worth the risk, I guess we differ in opinion.  The fact that it's been two years, is irrelevant.  I wouldn't sail until  all of my children could be vaccinated. That's just my assessment of the risk.

We've cancelled a second time because our 6 year old grandson won't be able to be vaccinated by the cruise date.

RCL wanted the $$$. They went for the 'unvsaccinated family market'. They got it.

Now they're putting restrictions in play when the $$$ & bookings came in.

Aww but we can. We can all cruise w/ kids and unvaccinated peeps! And if you don't like that, you can always stay in home... or start your own cruiseline! See how that works?

Once on the ship. How will they know who is or who is not vaccinated? Anyone know for sure?

Got this today from Travel Pulse.

Royal Caribbean recently revealed special protocols for unvaccinated passengers, barring them from some areas of its Freedom of the Seas ship when it sets sail from Miami this summer. Select restaurants, entertainment venues and public spaces will be off-limits to travelers who haven't yet been vaccinated, including the Vitality Spa, Casino Royale, RED Party and several bars and restaurants, the cruise line announced. Royal Caribbean is also requiring unvaccinated guests over the age of 12 who are traveling from Florida to provide proof of COVID-19-related insurance covering medical expenses, quarantine and evacuation.

i guess nobody knows "for sure" until the Freedom sails tomorrow and we learn firsthand. There have been reports that vaccinated will get wristbands and un-vax get holes punched in their cards, but give it a day and we will know.

Whenever things improve and you can resume cruising, it will be great.  Until then I think you've made the difficult but correct decision.

I still do not understand why anyone who is fully vaxxed and NOT traveling with anyone who is un-vaxxed would subject themselves to the protocols of a mixed passenger cruise.

I mentioned this in another thread and there were a couple of fully vaxxed people who said they would not mind masking in areas where vaxxed and un-vaxxed people were together. That would not be me or my husband. This is why we are not cruising out of Florida on a Royal ship.

Another head scratcher for me is........why would anyone who is fully vaxxed, not want to show proof of their vaccine? They would rather be considered un-vaxxed and have to subject themselves to the un-vaxxed protocols when cruising out of Florida? Who does that?????

I'm cruising on Oasis -  11/28/21.  It was a L&S with a NRD that I booked in October, 2019 - long before any hint of Covid.  My husband and I are fully vaccinated and are willing to cruise this one time with Royal even if we don't especially like or agree with the protocols.  But, we will not book any future cruises with them or any other cruise line until we see exactly how cruising is going.

They are now saying that they’ll grant refunds on any money paid fccs if people don’t like the new protocols for the affected sailing.

I’m guessing if they said this then they are getting more than enough booking.

You know what I don't understand?  I want to cruise again under normal conditions as much as much as anyone.  I also don't have any young children.  Covid is still out there and children will catch it.  Sure most kids won't get seriously ill but some will.  I don't understand why anyone wants to take that risk with their children.  If I had a young child we wouldn't cruise as a family until everyone could get vaccinated or Covid fades into the sunset.  Just my opinion.  I don't understand Royal's approach.

I also don’t understand why they would take the risk with their kids. Sure they can get sick and die of something else, but why add to that right now. I think it’s being selfish. The parents want to cruise so they are willing to put their own kids in that position. 🙄

I'm guessing they are doing everything they can to assist & help the unvaccinated passengers make an easer decisions to cancel and to get them off the cruises. I think they have more than the thought they'd get.

The fact they want people to wear wristbands at all times is ridiculous and classless on a cruise. Save it for the waterpark. The leaders at RCL have been a joke during this whole thing.  How they got to their high positions I will never know.

Is he not concerned about the Delta variant?

Aren’t some of the Royal ships water parks? Yep they are.

Let me preface my answer by saying we live in New Hampshire.  53% of our population is fully vaccinated, 62% have had first dose.  We have had only 22 COVID cases average per day for the last 7 days on a population of 1.4 million in our whole state.  Vaccines are readily available and the pandemic has been relatively well handled.  My children are healthy teenage boys who are homeschooled and all their close contacts are fully vaccinated. Older DS does an individual sport with only 6 other boys and a fully vaccinated, germaphobe for a coach. DH and I are fully vaccinated and the boys have very limited children with whom they personally interact.  And our booked cruise isn’t until February

No, whatever concern he has about Delta hasn't reached the point where he has changed his mind on the vaccine.  That being said, if we lived in an area with less “favorable” conditions or cases start skyrocketing again, we’d reconsider. We’ve also discussed doing the first dose and skipping the second - avoiding the higher myocarditis risk associated with the second.  It’s our responsibility to decide the risk/benefit to our children and not to society as a whole.

Not sure if you know or if it matters, but Royal won’t accept being half vaccinated. Something tells me you aren’t possibly going to have them only receive one shot to cruise. I believe like you said so they avoid the higher risk of higher myocarditis. There has been a person or 2 that didn’t want to get their kids vaccinated, but they were willing to do so so they could cruise. I totally disagree with their thinking, but their kids their choice. Anyway, I know we probably won’t ever get rid of covid I just hope the day comes soon where it is more under control.

I know Royal won’t accept half vaccinated. I would never make medical decisions based on that.  The 1 dose would be solely to give them some protection. I, too, am hoping that by February things will be at a new normal - I don’t say normal because I don’t think there’s any chance of that. I think the key right now is being flexible.  I have an alternative, fully refundable vacation already booked the same dates as our February cruise and will cancel our cruise if I don’t like Royal's protocols or if we find the risk of cruising unacceptable.

Of course Covid is never going away because it has always been here, just like the flu. This is nothing new.

Then why did all those people catch it (and are still catching it) and died?

😟 When I read this article about RC's decision to semi-segregate vaxxed passengers from unvaxxed passengers (https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/6245/),  I was reminded of the discrimination of HIV+ vs HIV- people. While, it is a far reach, this seems like it will cause tension on the ship between the  passengers; with the unvaxxed having to wear wristbands identifying them as unvaxxed passengers.

While I have never been a fan of RC and have only sailed their Celebrity, I am genuinely concerned how this will effect the overall morale on the ship. Some are already saying that unvaxxed passengers are ruining the enjoyment of vaxxed passengers and vice versa.

Sigh, I hope this is very temporary, as it does not seem like a smart move. They should just do what other lines are doing: sail with only vaccinated passengers, and be done with it.

We'll see how it goes, as the article says...the story will change.

Peace.

Not getting a vaccine is a choice, so anyone that makes that choice when they are eligible to get the vaccine is indicating they're willing to suffer the consequences.  That's not discrimination, so yes, the comparison is  a far reach.

The consequences I think will not be one sided. So I don't think it was that far a reach.

Peace. 😊
