Good morning all!

I feel like we're in the warmest part of the country (and Canada) right now at mid 40's F! My Southern in-laws always think that we in the PNW must have frigid weather all winter -- not true at all, and many times they have colder weather than we do.

I too don't answer calls unless I recognize the number ( @richwmnI tried doing what you suggested about assigning numbers I want to hear from a ring tone and the others go to voice mail but then there was the day DH was having a medical procedure and I missed a call from the medical facility....).  So to be on the safe side, I changed it back...  The best inane answering machine message I've ever heard was "you know the drill, 3, 2, 1 go".

Since I don't know how to yodel, I won't be yodeling for my neighbors (and they're glad about that!) LOL and right now I would love to escape onto a BHB!

The quote by MM is a good one, the meal sounds good but I'll be putting together the Brunswick Stew tonight.  The drink sounds good, will pass on the wine.

Have been to Valletta and would love to see more of Malta!  Thank you @StLouisCruisersSandi for the great photos of Gozo!

Edited to add

Adorable baby @dfish Debbie!  Thanks for sharing the photo.

We have been lucky enough to make it to Mgarr twice.  In 2017. before we reached Malta the Pinsendam's captain learned it would be too rough to tender into Mgarr the next day.  Instead, we had an overnight in Malta.  I'm reposting my pictures from July 2, 2021, for those who are new to The Daily.

These first ones are from our visit in 2017.  We rented a car for the two days in Malta, and the first day, we took the ferry to Gozo.

We stopped at the Gran Castello, and spent some time wandering through it.  I am not posting the picture of the church in the old fort as it looks very similar to other churches that have been posted.

Good Morning Everyone, thanks for the daily report.  The blizzard has passed. I completed the third round of snow blowing this morning.  Taking care of us and my neighbor lady.  Just back in from clearing the garage roof and the neighbors car.  She popped her head out and thanked me.

Today’s dinner will be a pork roast with mashed potatoes and a veggie.

I hope that everyone has a good Sunday.  Somehow I can relate to this today:

However this hasn't worked with the house calls.  They want to buy my house, and I tell them I will sell it for one million dollars.  Of course it's not worth that, but it is an interestingly landscaped property, and they could put 6 tiny houses on the property, and make a ton of money.

You’re selling your house to cheap! I tell them $6 million but we just decided that with inflation they can have it, furnished, for $100 million NET after taxes and fees are paid 🤪
Sorry did something wrong and got this box but can’t delete it.

Maybe I'm a little tough on MM but you should hear what DW has to say about her acting and singing.

Probably the result of an era when a Star was required to portray their carefully crafted persona at all times on screen or off. The role was simply a vehicle to showcase the Star. Lesser actors had the luxury of actually portraying the characters they played.

Good morning,

It's an overcast morning in the Pacific Northwest with rain in the forecast for the next few days. Have to get my walk in here shortly.

On the good news front DH got his PICC line out yesterday and we are done with vancomycin infusions! Tomorrow we see the doctor about getting that cyst out on his finger that they suspect caused this whole ordeal. He's doing well and now can take a shower again. We're also having some in-home physical therapy to keep him moving. Another good piece of news is that DS has almost finished the new ramp for us! It will be so much easier for DH to get in and out of the house especially when his hips aren't working right. DS still has pickets to put on the side and the tread to put down which may happen tomorrow. Meanwhile it's a sturdy ramp and isn't going anywhere.

All our junk calls seem to come from Kingston Jamaica and want to let us know we've won $5,000,000.00 and a new car. The others come from random places and seem intent on letting us know that we've had a charge for a new iPhone placed on our credit card.

@rafinmd I have used our new air fryer to heat pizza and it works really well.

@dfish Oliver is adorable! Love the name! Thanks for all the recipes as well.

@kazu Hang in there. It's wonderful that you can at least talk to Jose. Caregiving is not for the faint of heart so do something for yourself every day.

Happy Sunday everyone!

Karen

Sharon’s DD with possible covid

Hi Roy. You can take my daughter off the Care list. She had her drive through covid test yesterday and it was negative and she told me that she is feeling better too. Thank you for having her on the list and thank you everyone for thinking about her. She was bummed out all week because she couldn’t have her DS with her and he had to stay with his father. After her negative test she was able to go pick him up, she was really excited to see him.

Good morning, all! Back when home answering machines were a new thing, my DS and BIL got one, and wondered why no one was leaving messages. Then they checked their message again. One of my nephews had changed their message to ‘Hello! Hello? Is someone there? I can’t hear you. We have a bad connection - could you hang up and try again?’ BIL was furious, and there were no more inane messages after that. I thought it was hilarious.

We are now snug on the island, with the rain pouring outside and a cozy fire and hot coffee inside. Tomorrow we have work to do, but today we can just enjoy the moment!

@kazu good grief, fate is just hitting you with one thing after another. It’s good that Jose is answering his phone, and maybe he will figure out being able to call next.

@ger_77 so sorry your embarkation day is taking place without you and your DH!

Happy Sunday, stay dry, and stay warm, which I know would be easier aboard a BHB!

Good morning from sunny Quartzsite where it's 55F and warming to about 70F this afternoon.

We've heard some pretty inane answering machine greetings.  I can't remember the last time we had a message on the landline, but I do remember it was a junk call.  We have landlines because of the internet connections.  We also ignore calls from numbers we don't recognize, and our phones identify the callers in our contacts.  If I tried to yodel for our neighbors, they'd probably think someone was murdering me.  We had our big escape in November and December on the Koningsdam.  My escape today, may be enjoying my book on the patio.

The Marilyn Monroe quote is interesting, and whatever anyone else thinks, she was never boring.

We have a couple of strip steaks in the freezer and we may just split one with a baked potato and salad.  Unless, DH still wants the leftover pizza tonight.  Whichever it is, there will be red wine.  We'll pass on the drink, but I'd like to try the wine.

Happy you tested negative, but sorry you are still feeling bad.  For a change, I can say, I hope it's just a cold and your over it soon.

Thanks for our Sunday Daily, Rich.

Interesting collection of days.  No answering machine in the house - voice mail 😉 I won’t be yodelling today but my neighbours might be hearing me scream - there’s no escape.  I’m snow bound until I can dig and get dug out 😔  This WAS Marley’s and my path outside.

I like that Marilyn Munroe quote. Today’s meal sounds good but I have lost my appetite between the snow and Marley.  He came in limping yesterday.

Too cold out so I best get dressed VERY warmly and try to tackle some of the front sidewalk.  Prayers for everyone on the Care list & for those that need them and 🥂 to those on the Celebratory / Shout Out list.

Stay safe & please don’t forget your 😷

All I can say about your snow is YIKES! 😱  Be careful out there removing the snow and let the hired help do most of it.  Glad Jose is answering the phone and you can at least talk to him.  Poor Marley, I hope whatever is wrong with his paw is not serious and heals quickly.

Good morning everyone. It’s 8 degrees here this morning and I would really like to escape to Florida . It’s just too cold and as I look outside I can’t see the main roads, but it’s icy out my garage door so I’m glad I have no where to go today. Tomorrow we both have PT and I’m hoping we get there along with our PT therapists. Yesterday, Sam and I had a long talk about his strokes and how they have effected our lives. It’s so complicated because we have no idea what the future looks like but neither does anyone else. I have to face the fact that control over our lives is an illusion.
Stay safe everyone,

Carol

Hope you both can get to PT and that the therapists can get there too tomorrow.  Be careful out there.

I have been to Gozo!  I went to Malta with my mother and my two crazy aunts (RIP).  It was one of the best trips, ever, as we laughed our way through the entire holiday.  My Aunt Audrey loved bingo so she insisted we play when we came upon an outdoor game at the waterfront.  We all bought cards and then proceeded to try to translate Maltese into English so we could mark our cards.  Aunt Audrey would guess at what he was calling and insist she was right.  I was laughing so hard I gave her my card and wandered off to see what the fishing boats had brought in.  One night we were in a tavern where they had music and dancing.  My Aunt Dorothy would chase away anyone who would ask me to dance!  I can’t even begin to tell you the laughs we had at the karaoke bar.  I was literally weak from laughter.  Thanks for the reminder of some great memories, @richwmn.

That is a great story about your visit to Malta with your mother and aunts.

Last week a rather mid sized black and white cat had begun hanging out in our yard, and I was taking food up the hill near the shrubbery where I thought it had been hunkering down.  Then last night I looked out the back door, and there was a white cat with black ears and black tail staring at one of the ferals who sleeps at the back door.  I opened the door, and it took off.

I swear that the feral cats put out a sign at night that there is free food and drink here, and they are running some kind of  restaurant.

All but two of our cats  were rescues or one that adopted us.  I don't think he was feral as he was very comfortable around people including our young DDs, and was the sweetest cat.  He looked like a white Maine coon, and showed up at our house in Pennsylvania during a snowstorm.  Naturally, he was named Snowball.

Idid I forget anyone? we get 7-8 calls about selling our house.  my friend Penny says this is the way that foreign countries will be buying up land in America.  She is a conspiracy theorist,  but i have heard this from other people too.  I also answer all calls- how else can i tell someone to put me on their do not call list.   I've been a telemarketer for a long time on and off between "real" jobs...hint, answer the phone and tell the person that you want to be put on the "do not call list" , otherwise, we will call you for months. Not our choice, it's just that you are in a computer, and you just become the next call, over and over, and over, unless you tell us you are not interested.  Sorry in advance.

I've been telling telemarketers to put us on their do not call list for years.  Thanks for sharing the tip with the Dailyites.

@grapau27Graham, thanks so much for posting Father David's sermons.  He has a wonderful way of expressing his thoughts, and I really enjoy them every week.

We ended up getting about 18 inches of snow here....we've cleared the sidewalks, but still have to do the walkway to the side door.  I have to get the car cleared for my DS so he can go to work tomorrow (he's in NYC seeing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as his birthday present!).  My DH and I do a little, then come in and warm up, then go back to do more.  I know lots of people don't like this weather, but I think it's great!

Also, thanks so much to @kazuJacqui for letting us know about Sno Joe - we bought one and it worked GREAT!  The snow is a bit deep but we just did the top layer and then worked our way down.  All 4 of us had fun yesterday clearing the sidewalks and the car still parked in the street. (yes, that's me all bundled up with it)

Good morning friends!  Wow, it's 27F here today too along with several of my Florida buddies.  Should be sunny and up to 55F later so I'm not complaining.  Thanks Graham @grapau27for posting the sermon, and it looks like a nice day to gaze at the sea.  Jacqui @kazuI 'm sorry there's so much snow to deal with.  If you didn't have to get outside it would be easier on you, but with Marley needing to go out, it's a real problem.  What could he have done to his paw?  Looks like you had to bandage it.  At least Jose can answer the phone now so that must be the bright spot in your day, talking to him.  I hope he can figure out the calling routine next.  No inane answering machine message here - it's a programmed message and the woman's voice is lovely (not my own).  I also don't answer if I don't know the caller number, until they leave a message and I figure it out.  We have Nomorobo programmed to stop 95% of the spam calls after the first ring.  That helps tremendously and it's free! No way will I be yodeling to my neighbors!  I would love to escape somewhere far away on a ship and not have to worry about testing or contracting Covid on the way there or while there.  Seems like a dream instead of this nightmare!  A very unique quote by Marilyn Monroe.  Tell us what you REALLY think @MISTER 67@cat shepardlove the checking for your summer body meme!  Too funny and so true!

Many thanks to Rich @richwmnfor the Daily.  I also appreciate the Care and Celebration lists today Roy @rafinmd.  Seems like the Care list is a little smaller which is a relief.  Hope that trend continues.  Prayers said for all and cheers to those celebrating today.

Edited to add, the meal looks delicious today Debbie @dfish.  Thanks for the recipes and photos!

Heading back to the port, you can see the Westerdam at anchor far off in the distance.enhance

It's an interesting place but I would probably only need to see it once.  The next day was Valletta , and that was an awesome stop along our cruise.  In fact, we docked in Valletta the same evening after leaving Mgarr, and seeing it lit up at night is part of the wonder of the city.

Nice collection of photos Sandi.

Sorry all our Florida friends are feeling the chill today.  Hope everyone has better weather and stays comfortable and warm!

Laura

You are very welcome Laura.

I am pleased you like them as much as Pauline and I do

Graham.

I would like to introduce you to Oliver Scott, born this morning at 6:18 am in Sarasota, Florida.  He is 20.75 inches long and weighs 8 pounds, 15 ounces.  His proud mama is my niece and Goddaughter.

@dfish I wish there was an ahhh!  button.  So cute, thanks for sharing your family with us.

@Quartzsite Cruiser  We have 5 fur babies.  Neko, who we found in a box at the farmers market.  The box was marked Free Kat.  She was so small she fit in my DH's hand.  She is our "office" cat.

Then there is Irving, we adopted him to keep Neko company.  In 13 years they have hated each other.  Irving begs food by jumping on the table and putting his head in your food.  When we take a vacation he just starves to death as he hates cat food.

Bob and Furnando are both gingers, who showed up in the yard, we simply picked them up, and brought them in.  Their daddy is one of our ferals that we have not been able to catch yet.  Bob is healthy, but Furnando was born with AIDS.  They are wonderful loving fur babies.

The Tazi is a black and white, born in a storm drain, and one of my old bosses captured the kittens and the mother, had them all spayed/neutered and gave them away.

When we adopted her, we were afraid that our old (now deceased) big gray long haired (again another stray we had taken in) might attack her, but they loved each other.  Always together,  They would sit on the porch together, with their tails wrapped around each other.  She really misses him, and absolutely hates the Furnando.

We feed him by himself as he is such a piglet, but she has learned to hide under the futon and hisses at him and scares him.  He in turn chases her around the house the rest of the day, but at night?  They both calm down and sleep with me, one by my chest, and one by my feet.

And these are my fur babies.  Now you all know our family.

Blessed morning to all our friends. Thank you Rich for the Daily.

Last night we had a friend over and I made a quiche and salad. Tonight we have chicken poblano soup and French bread.

Prayers sent early this morning. Thanks for the sermon Graham.

Happy to hear your DD tested negative Sharon. Hoping StLouisSal is feeling better.

@kazu someone should invent a heated snow mat so you wouldn't need to shovel. We know friends in Idaho that have heated sidewalks and driveways.

Thank you Roy for the prayers and celebration lists.

Supposed to be a beautiful 70 today. Tonight starts rain and tomorrow 100% chance of rain.

Have a wonderful day and nice week ahead.
