Today is turning into the day from **LL.  First we lose the house, next the report on the inspection (could cost several thousands), then the window company did not replace the windows today.   They just came out to measure so they could place the order.  I sent them the photos of the labels and they said they had ordered the windows and they would be installed today.  The guy who came out said the pictures were too blurry so they made me wait six weeks to find that out and sent him out instead of asking me to retake the pictures.  Of course, there is a $99 service charge for each visit.  They get you one way or the other.

@dfish as I said yesterday:

Oh, NO!

Or as I really wanted to say then & now:

"Oh, H-E-🏒🏒 NO!"

Well, the carboardeaux will have to wait.  I decided I'm going to make a quick trip up to Michigan so I can tour the houses with my sister.  Meal of the Day will be on hiatus unless @0106 Tina is willing to pick it up.   I'll be gone tomorrow though Monday.

Debbie, safe travels, and 🤞 fingers crossed you find the perfect house Saturday.  I think you made a good decision to replace cardbordeaux with a house hunting trip, and I'd wondered if you would decide to go.

BTW, if Tina can't fill in for you, I'm sure we'll all find something to eat the days you're gone.  🤣

Good morning and thanks all!  Sorry so many are off to a rocky start this fall!

@*Miss G* i am so sorry to hear of the loss of your DFIL.   And airline woes on top, but it sounds like you can be rerouted that will be a good thing. As from AMS to FRA MAN is out of the way.   Who did you book with?  That is usually who can help.
@kazu I am exhausted just reading your list, hoping the  storm passes safely!
@StLouisCruisers how is your knee?  I’m hoping you have had some improvement.  Milano is lovely, the Italian  lakes even more so.
@dfish I truly hope something better will come along,  you deserve it!
@smitty34877 glad Tana’s  visit went well, sorry to hear about your insurance coverage, sigh!

Enjoying the discussion of standards, the first car I drove was a three on the tree,  first car I bought was a 65 Mustang convertible 289 cobra jet, four speed!  Such fun! DH had a standard super bee 383 magnum and DB a dodge demon 340 and then a Camaro.  Sigh!  My two muscle cars,  the second was a 1970 Mustang Mach one, 351 Cleveland that I wish I had kept.

D7B95DEA-F6F0-4857-8552-47D39556CA43.jpeg

That's a lot of muscle cars!  None of us thought a thing about gas mileage and fuel costs in those days.  I had a 1968 Camaro Rally Sport before we got married which was not a hot rod but it sure was fun to drive (automatic transmission).  As newlyweds we couldn't afford two cars so my Dad bought my Camaro from me.  It was fun while it lasted!

You asked about the knee pain.  No, the exercises only help about 10%.  I will continue to do them though until my next doctor appointment in three weeks and see what she says.

I was meeting my sister in Manchester, staying overnight, then flying to Frankfurt on Lufthansa the next day, so two separate flights.  (Sister lives in the UK.)

So I’ve just gotten off the phone with KLM and they’ve told me to call Delta.  Delta doesn’t even show that there’s a cancellation.  Off to research anything Delta may have as an option now.  Good times.  🤪

I guess it must be a KLM flight number but operated by Delta then.  On the other hand many times it's a Delta flight operated by KLM.  Makes your head spin!

Good to hear you are going to get right on it and go house hunting with DS.  I hope a new seller is signing his listing papers tomorrow and you two can be the first persons to see the new listing.  Some things are meant to be.

I'm glad you had very little reaction to the bivalent booster.  That gives me hope since the last booster and the shingles vaccine caused a significant but short lived reaction.

Thank you Lenda.  We just never know.  I usually feel worse than this (knocking on wood now).  DS and DDIL got theirs a few days ago, DS had no reaction, DDIL was laid flat for a couple days (much better now).

@dfishHappy to do the meal of the day through Monday.  I always look forward to the recipes you post as I’m sure many on the Daily do too.  I hope you find the perfect house!  Sorry about all the problems with the inspection, basement, windows…

@kazuYou have been working very hard.  Seems like whenever I bring my umbrella it never rains.  I hope that all your preparation means that Fiona does not seriously impact you.

@HAL4NOWYour pictures of the fires are terrifying.  I hope your community and the firefighters are safe.

@kpladyLoved the picture of the rules of engagement at the wiener stand.  Reminded me of the Soup *** on Seinfeld.

@Horizon chaser 1957I feel the same way about dolphins that you do about elephants.  After many incredible experiences with them in the wild, I do not think it is right for people to pay to swim with a captive dolphin.

@Seasick Sailor @summer slope We are getting mixed messages for our November transatlantic Spanish departure.  Booking number gives us the Standard protocol.  Voyage number says no info available.  Frustrating!

Sending out positive thoughts to all who are dealing with travel issues including those who may be sailing through the storm.

Sympathy to all of you who are struggling with heath issues for you or your family member and for those of you who have recently lost a loved one.

Thanks to all who regularly post port pictures, my favorite parts of the Daily.

Good morning, everyone!

It is a new day and better things will happen.  At least, I hope so!!  Today the windows with leaky seals get replaced as they were under warranty.  There's the first good thing. The other good thing is that my realtor got a text from the buyer's realtor saying the inspection went well, except for the faucet.  Actually, the faucet is an easy and relatively inexpensive repair.

Today's meal can be sweet or savory.  I guess it depends on what you feel like having - dinner or dessert.

A sopaipilla, sopapilla, sopaipa, or cachanga is a kind of fried pastry and a type of quick bread served in several regions with Spanish heritage in the Americas. The word sopaipilla is the diminutive of sopaipa, a word that entered Spanish from the Mozarabic language of Al-Andalus. The original Mozarabic word Xopaipa was used to mean bread soaked in oil. The word is derived in turn from the Germanic word suppa, which meant bread soaked in liquid.

A sopaipilla is traditionally made from leavened wheat dough (or a mixture of wheat flour and masa harina) to which some shortening such as butter is added. After being allowed to rise, the dough is rolled into a sheet that is then cut into circular, square or triangular shapes, 8–10 cm in size for the longest dimension (if intended for a dessert) or 15–20 cm (if intended to be stuffed for a main course). These pieces are then deep-fried in oil, sometimes after being allowed to rise further before frying: the frying causes them to puff up, ideally forming a hollow pocket in the center.

Here is your basic sopaipilla recipe.  You can sprinkle confectioner's sugar on them or honey for a dessert.   https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/sopaipillas/

242860428_sopaipilla1.jpg.13a99c1cbdf62e74620654eb632327dd.jpg

The sopaipillas above are like the ones found in the southwest US, especially in New Mexico.  South American sopaipillas are a little different as seen in this next recipe:  https://www.chileanfoodandgarden.com/chilean-sopaipillas/

Just got word that we have definitely lost the house in Midland.  Back to the drawing board.

Wishing you all a wonderful day.

Oh NO, Debbie!  With all my prayers that you will quickly find another house---One much more WONDERFUL.

So when it rains it pours.  After I hung up with my husband I checked my email to find Your Flight Has Been Cancelled.  Does anyone have experience with booking through Delta but being on a KLM flight?  I have spent the past hour trying to navigate both Delta and KLM trying to figure this out.  Neither airline has offered options or has rebooked me on a different flight.  Just a note from KLM to contact them but with a NL phone number.  I tried calling Delta but got the “unusually long wait time” message.  It doesn’t help that my brain is in a swirl and I am unable to think straight.  Do I call Delta or KLM?  Thank you to anyone who knows.  😢

Sorry, forgot to add that I am thinking of @kazu and all in its path, and @dfish for the loss of your home.  Wishing for the best of all outcomes for you both. x

May your  father in law RIP.

Twenty-dix years ago, DH and I toured three Kenyan game parks as part of a 17-day African Safari + Isles of the Indian Ocean cruise. The safari was with Micoto Safaris (highly recommended still); the cruise was on the Orient's Marco Polo (that went to the breakers in 2021).

The majority of our elephant spotting was in the Amboseli National Park where we stayed in a bungalow at Oltukai Lodge.

IMG_20220922_150534587.thumb.jpg.6daba51ac72eea844e929a6427cc9fe0.jpg

From my travel diary:

"Herds of elephants wandered throughout the Amboseli. Their speed and mobility was surprising. One minute a herd was spotted miles away; the next minute the same herd was crossing in front of us."

IMG_20220922_155023179.thumb.jpg.318165734afcae60fd42216da210498d.jpg

IMG_20220922_150742239.thumb.jpg.11dd658c027b0b8579017b944917c75f.jpg

Eating was a never-ending activity. They pushed and pulled trees over in their endless search for food.

IMG_20220922_150932001.thumb.jpg.ee034f4a8f56d24854647ea107d89a32.jpg

Near our bungalow was a swampy area where the elephants frolicked like toddlers in a wading pool.

IMG_20220922_151002780.thumb.jpg.31184320380ec121bbf0463d1653391c.jpg

Then the elephants would wander off with their high water mark showing.

IMG_20220922_152029999.thumb.jpg.22b232c612efe988455b08203db12bee.jpg

And, speaking of toddlers, mother and baby elephants travel together.

IMG_20220922_151017082.thumb.jpg.10d0963765ab13fdda89f7a17a5bee12.jpg

Babies can walk under their mommy's tummy until two-weeks of age. We were blessed to see such a very young baby.

Many thanks to you all.  ❤️  If I missed anyone, I apologize.  I’m exhausted.  I just FaceTimed with my sister and she said she’s off to bed but I look more tired than she does.  😂

Thanks @VMax1700.  When I spoke with Delta, the rep could see that KLM had cancelled all flights that day so I didn’t trust them to get me to Amsterdam.  I’ve rebooked on a Virgin Atlantic flight in a *crap seat.  Ironically, I had debated between that flight and the KLM flight, when I was originally booking, but didn’t like the one hour connection time at JFK.  I could have had Business Class back then.  Now I am at the very back next to the *toilet.  Yay.  (**completely unintentional pun there)

We looked at flights to Frankfurt instead of MAN but I’d have to connect in Atlanta or Detroit with long layovers.  Not happening.

Now I have started my investigation into EU 261/2004 into compensation and reimbursement for payment to KLM for upgraded seats.  If I wasn’t so tired I’d take Jacqui up on that wine recommendation.  lol

In 1968 we were living near San Francisco and I was teaching at a Navy electronics school and we decided to buy a new car.  I was interested in a Pontiac Firebird with the six cylinder engine.  The salesman was only interested in talking about the monthly payments, not the cost of the car.  I took out my pocket slide rule and figured the cost, which was close to $4K.  The salesman sneered at me and said "If you want to save money on a car, maybe you should buy a Volkswagen."  We went directly to the VW dealer and bought a VW fastback at about $2400.

@Horizon chaser 1957I feel the same way about dolphins that you do about elephants.  After many incredible experiences with them in the wild, I do not think it is right for people to pay to swim with a captive dolphin.

I feel the same. When we were on the Amazon, we had an excursion (not with HAL) that went up river to swim with the wild dolphins. There was an indigenous family with a large dock and excellent relationship with the wild pink dolphins. A woman took four of us in life jackets into the warm, black waters of the open Amazon River. This was no pen, it was open water, and the dolphins were wild and free. We were not to touch them, and there was certainly no rides or tricks. The woman had fish, and if a dolphin wanted some it would come up from the water to take it from her hand. The strangers floating nearby didn’t bother them. Those that didn’t want to be near strangers didn’t come in. There was a fierce thunderstorm over the jungle behind us. It was one of the most magical experiences of my life, and I can’t even look at a dolphin pen now.

It’s all connected to that Royalty thing.😉

And I really need to study up and get myself to the UK. So many fabulous sites have been posted here by @grapau27 and many others. I think I’d like to combine a land trip with a cruise, maybe P&O. Looks like there’s lots of great itineraries that include scenic cruising.

I'm always happy to give personal experience help on places and cruise's.
