Who watched the Real Love Boat?

.....I hope it was a short disturbance and that passengers were informed in advance, ie, pre-booking.

There was a thread started by a poster here who was disappointed that he was informed only one week prior to embarking that there would be filming on the ship. This wasn't the show being broadcast now, but for a future UK based reality TV show.

One week before boarding! That gives people no opportunity to cancel before the cruise.

Does anyone at Princess/CCL realize that these demeaning games on ship and promoting trash TV will not increase bookings? One of the "great" lectures on a prior Princess cruise was themed "pirates" so we decided to go. And walked out after ten minutes!  The presented turned the lecture into a political diatribe showing very nasty degrading cartoons of current people in the news dressed as pirates or pirate's wenches.

Our next cruise is on Azamara, no silliness on their ships. Port lectures are about history and culture not shopping.

We used to do trivia, but saw too many with iphones open looking for answers so they could win the highly coveted key ring!

Writing Princess management does not help or garner a response other than the boiler plate "everyone else loves the entertainment."

Since Princess/CCL stock is doing so great today, it must reflect the increased bookings generated by the TV show  $7.15 per share yikes.

I learned something new from the executive producer about the duties of a real captain, CD & bartender. 🙄

“We didn’t want actors, we wanted people that really did this for a living,” Bienstock says. “A real ship’s captain, real bartender, a real cruise director. And just like the original series, these people, besides doing their day jobs, their roles are to find singles and bring them together in the hopes of a match.”

Seriously, I'll bet this Captain and CD and Bartender are showing up for a matter of minutes, filming their part, and then off they go.  It just seemed so obvious.

And, yes this is the new Princess. But don't kvetch and complain too soon.  This is still not Princess gone 'Carnival'.  I really like their new commercials, which are a definite take on the 'neon' Carnival ships, that show the striking colors of the sea, the sunset, etc...  and says Princess REAL, not neon.

I think Princess still has a ways to go as it 'evolves',  But, for me, I am not pining for the past.

The Dome, on the new Sun Princess, is described as having a Miami South Beach vibe, for adults, at night.   I think that is a perfect example of what Princess is moving towards.

CCL and Princess know their target audiences for these lines.  Very well.

And, yes, as one person said, you don't want to see the demise of your business and profits because all your older customers are no more.

No interest and pray that I'm never on a cruise where that kind of stuff is taking place and taking over the ship. So unfair to paying customers. This is getting too commercial for me and if that is the direction that PCL is taking it may be time to move on after completion of our booked cruises...

I watched but it was clear from both the show and the Princess commercials that they are aiming to get younger cruisers onboard.  Which they need to do to stay relevant when the rest of us old(er) folks stop cruising.

I think you left out the part about what happens to cause us older folks to stop cruising.  Spoiler alert:  🤢💀👻😈

ROFL…..OMG and somehow people pan this show but the ridiculous games they have on Princess like the Marriage Game, Yes/No game, Trivia, etc. are some how not cheesy but high class entertainment on Princess.

Not quite the same thing.  Nobody shows the ridiculous and cheesy games on Princess on national TV.  Though that time I did a sack dance AND a profanity-filled diatribe AND stuck an "L" on the forehead of Aunt Sally over there in the wheelchair when I beat her at Olivia Newton-John trivia WOULD have been interesting to see by the Jerry Springer crowd at least.*

* - None of this stuff ever happened.  Please don't flame me.

I guess I better steer my wheelchair the other direction.  I'm afraid your little "joke" on old people here is not quite as funny as you think it is.

Princess management is who dreams up such things & in her webinars the Princess VP of Sales is ecstatic about this cheesy program. She believes that it’ll increase cruising as much as the original Love Boat program. She described it as a combination of the Amazing Race, Survivor & Love Island which left CBS for NBC’s Peacock network. In the Love Boat series love was mostly depicted with humor by actors but the new version is people not truly seeking love but their 15 minutes of fame in another scripted reality show.

I’ll occasionally watch the original camp version of the Love Boat on the free Pluto TV network and not this trashy Real Love Boat version.

I thought it was a total embarrassment for Princess.

Keeping an eye on this thread.  So far, 2 pages of "not interested" to zero posts about how wonderful this new series is.

I am sure I am not the only one to coin "What was Princess thinking?"

John Padgett... 'nuff said. 🤢

Sounds like what we saw being actually filmed last July aboard Regal. So scripted and loads of retakes.

The best VT will be the arial shots when the helicopter spent half an hour flying/filming around us shortly after leaving Kotor.

And here we thought we were being escorted by the Kotor harbor patrol via helicopter back out to the Aegean Sea! 😂

We just watched the first episode on Paramount+ and I have to say it helps that we were on the 21 day cruise on the Regal which also started in Barcelona, the same day this episode started. But all in all, it was a fun show to watch. More importantly though as we continue to watch the show (without commercials), it will probably bring back a lot of the great memories we had on that cruise! 😁
