Should be cloudy for most of the day with a high of 72. We are expecting rain possibly on Sunday and Monday. Thanks Rich @richwmnfor this Daily and Fleet Report. A salute to the Statue of Liberty on this dedication day anniversary. I like plush animals -- who doesn't? And our very favorite day to celebrate is chocolate! I wouldn't like the sushi as my menu of the day. That's quite a quote! Coquimbo (La Serena), Chile is a nice port to visit. We had it last time over a year ago, Oct. 13, 2021. I will put the link below and also add my photos from back then. And I will go get Lenda's photos for her too (until she's home again and able to do it for herself). Thank you Roy for the Care and Celebration lists. I'm sorry to hear you have an infection near your mouth but glad you got to see the doctor already. Prayers for Lenda and Steve, and @smitty34877Terry, her DH and Tana. Prayers also for the remainder on the list, those suffering in Ukraine and after our hurricanes this fall. Cheers to everyone celebrating. Good to hear the letter came through @summer slopeDixie though I can see now might be the opportunity to get the yellow fever vaccination while you have the appointments made. Good luck to Debbie on her closing day. Best of luck with everything! I have a new photo of Sadie. She was spayed a short while back but her sutures are out and she was able to get groomed. Finally! Her fur grows so fast! On to our port information. We stopped in Coquimbo, Chile on two of our South America cruises. Once in 2012 on Star Princess and again in 2015 on Ruby Princess. Coquimbo, Chile on March 5, 2015, Star Princess circumnavigation of South America. Arrival at the pier and a group of dancers to entertain us. From the ship you could walk through a small marketplace set up for the tourists. Just offshore this seemingly abandoned boat, except for the birds aboard. Besides birds there was plenty of other wildlife hanging around looking for a handout. Local fishermen checking their nets. The result of those nets This mom was happy to show off her chubby-cheeked baby. Awww! On our walk back we noticed the sidewalk area was decorated with these designs. This cross on the hillside is called the Third Millennium cross. Our 2012 trip to Coquimbo on Star Princess included a shuttle bus to drive us to the La Serena area. When we were dropped off it was rather quiet but things moved along as the morning went on. Our friend who was also on this cruise looked hard for a place to make a phone call to her mother who was not in the greatest health. She eventually found a place where you could rent a computer or place phone calls using her calling card. At that time a lot of us didn't have cell phones with international calling plans. You can see how deserted the streets and parks were. An interesting modern-art type fountain with figures. We decided the gardeners here didn't want their flowers eaten by hungry marauders and placed sticker bush branches over them. What do you think about that idea, garden club members? I've checked and this date was a Sunday, so perhaps everyone was already at church. Or sleeping in. As we walked to the market near the Plaza de Armas we noticed most of the pedestrians looked like tourists. After our excursion to the shopping mecca, we arrived back at the ship. An interesting spot to explore while visiting South America. Next post will be Lenda's photos. Nice collection of photos Sandi. Sadie looks so cute and loveable. marshhawk Posted October 28, 2022 #28 Share Posted October 28, 2022 Happy Friday Morning Dailyites! When I read the quote, I kept thinking, isn't this from Winnie the Pooh? Good, glad to know I had not lost my mind. I loved my new hair cut, but it is growing faster than I want, and because we are off to see the MIL next week, I have an appointment at 10 this morning to get it recut. (cant believe I'm actually saying that, as it usually takes me years to think about cutting it.) Best Boss will rethink giving me so many hours. So keep your fingers crossed. I talked with my "hire" boss and he said that the two campaigns I was being offered were a BIG deal. But I still have my contract with Asheville..... I love chocolate, my new love is hot fudge on coffee ice cream.... I hope everyone has a great day, and I am going to quote my friend Lisa, who says, Make it a great day. You have the power!
travelnap Posted October 28, 2022 #29 Share Posted October 28, 2022 I like to think that I am very open minded and usually very friendly, so it is easy to tell you all that I never met a chocolate that I didn't like. It doesn't matter if it is dark, milk, white, or the sea salt caramel, I truly enjoy meeting all of them. Yes, it is true, when it comes to chocolate, you don't want to truffle with me, as I really enjoy their company. 20
ger_77 Posted October 28, 2022 #30 Share Posted October 28, 2022 Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily! We haven't seen the Statue of Liberty yet, but hope to some day; there are some plush animals in the lower bedrooms for the grandsons, and YAY for chocolate! Except white chocolate, that's just an imposter. Love, love, love the quote - I can almost hear Pooh saying it. I woke up at 2:30 this morning with thoughts of our flight for Monday - which changed again yesterday. Our departure from home keeps getting later and later (started at 6:10AM, moved to 10:30AM, and now 1:05PM); I just hope we have enough time that if our first outbound flight is cancelled for some stupid reason, that we can fly to Calgary to catch our KLM to Barcelona. A nap is definitely in order for me today. Wishing @kazua safe and uneventful flight to BCN today. @smitty34877hoping you and DH get better news at the doctor's office today. @Quartzsite CruiserI hope Steve gets moved today and you can head for home. @dfishsafe travels to your new home town! Not a lot happening today; one thing I have to do is head out to pick up an anniversary card for DS and DDIL who will be celebrating their 12th anniversary while we are away. I'll drop it in the mailbox on our way to the airport on Monday. DH has a dental appointment in an hour to fix a couple of small cavities, and that'll be about all. We've had today's menu suggestion several times when we were in Japan, but it isn't something I would ever make (DH doesn't like the thought of eating raw fish), but of course it's Friday night so we'll enjoy some pizza at the kitchen table tonight. And wine. Prayers for everyone who is hurting, cheers to all who have something to celebrate. Stay safe, everyone! Smooth Sailing! 🙂🙂🙂 Gerry 27

Visiting my brother at hospital but just as I arrived they are changing his pic line. 40 minute procedure. At least my DS will be here soon so we can visit a while. Quartzsite Cruiser Posted October 28, 2022 #33 Share Posted October 28, 2022 Good morning from a gloomy, rainy central Texas. It looks like I'll be driving in the rain today. The nurse said they should be by to get DH about 10:30. I really hope so. The nurse in charge really worked him hard yesterday, and left a note about what needed to be done today. So far, it seems they are not following it or haven't read it. All three days are worth celebrating, but I'll concentrate on celebrating chocolate. I like today’s quote no matter where it's from. We'll definitely pass on the meal and the drink. I would probably like the wine, but it is pricey. @StLouisCruisers Sandi, thank you for again posting my pictures. @rafinmd Roy, I hope the infection clears up soon. @dfish Debbie, sending positive thoughts that both closings go smoothly. Safe travels to Michigan. @Cruzin Terri Terri, good luck with chaning the email, I've been there and done that. Hope the insurance adjustor starts talking to the contractor again soon. The doctor came by and confirmed things are set for DH to be transferred. Lenda 24

Seasick Sailor Posted October 28, 2022 #35 Share Posted October 28, 2022 Good morning Dailyites. Goodness, thunder and lightning woke us about 4 am and the rain came down in sheets. Dumb me, opened the window last night and the carpet got drenched before I realized rain was coming in. I have been to the statue of Liberty and taken the Ellis Island tour. We visited well before Sept. 11th, so was able to climb to the top of her crown. I love, love sushi. Especially Hamachi. I do not care for eel, but most other fish I like. The quote is so sweet. Chocolate.. a day @RuthC will love. Roy I added you to my prayer book. I hope your infection can be cleared up quickly. Terri and Lenda, prayers lifted to your families. Debbie I'm so happy for you and your new state and home! Prayers for all on Roy's list. Prayers, Cheers and blessings

HAL4NOW Posted October 28, 2022 #38 Share Posted October 28, 2022 I am reposting what I posted on October 13, 2021, and then adding a few more pictures. Stopped in Coquimbo on the Zaandam in 2019. Loved the Cruz del Tercer Milenio (Third Millennium Cross). We didn't see any tours that interested us that day, so just did a walk about through the town and up the steep hill to the cross. We went up into the cross and saw the museum that is located in the cross-bars. There is a chapel under the cross and numerous sculptures situated all around the grounds at the cross. One of the wild dogs that were so prevalent around town seemed to be guarding one of the sculpture scenes, but I think she was actually watching over her puppies that were behind the sculpture. Edited October 13, 2021 by HAL4NOW This very ornate set of doors led into the chapel under the cross. It read, "per me si quis introierit salvabitur" which translates from Latin into: if anyone enters through me, he will be saved. And we happened to be in Coquimbo on a Friday: 21

USN59-79 Posted October 28, 2022 #46 Share Posted October 28, 2022 For some reason while trying to sleep last night I kept remembering incidents that happened at yesterdays port of Danang. One in particular was a ship that we did emergency repairs on after it was bombed by a MIG-17 off the coast of North Vietnam. She came alongside for repairs and her chief electronics technician was my neighbor and a person I had served with on my previous ship. So when he came aboard to discuss repairs my people could do on his ship I invited him to my stateroom for a talk. I had a bottle of Jack Daniels in my safe for "special occasions". The ship had taken a 500 lb bomb on the after twin five inch gun mount. The top was blown off and it was totally destroyed. I mentioned that I had been reading the messages about the bombing and it didn't mention casualties, but obviously no one could have survived in that gun mount. He said that it was a miracle. Just before the bomb hit the gun had a misfire and procedure calls for everyone in the gun mount and the ammunition handling room below to immediately vacate. They did, and no one was killed, but four were injured. The handling room caught fire, but a broken salt water main put it out. We did some repairs on the ship (USS Higbee DD-806) and the ship was able to make its way to a shipyard in the Philippines for overhaul. Hope you all could handle another "sea story" today. Rare ottahand7 Posted October 28, 2022 #47 Share Posted October 28, 2022 Finally back home from the hospital. My DB is in good spirits and eating well. He liked the M&M shortbread cookies I brought him. They still have no results from the culture of his knee implant area. We had a nice visit even though we had a couple of interruptions. DSIL is worried that he is not able to sit up on the edge of his bed yet and I agree, it bodes for a rough recovery to get back on his feet. Today is a gorgeous day. Especially after a late night watching the Ravens beat the Buccaneers. That always puts a spring in my step. Most of my packing is done for the cold weather clothing to go out by Fedex. Shoes and all. Have to add new socks I bought and a couple little things. I did a trial fill down the basement where my luggage and cruise specific clothes are stashed. When we get the word about pick up I will unload it and repack it upstairs as it will be really heavy. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports @richwmn. I am glad several others mentioned the Pooh connection because I thought the same thing. I like chocolate but it isn't my favorite for dessert or a snack. I still have a few stuffed animals on a bed at the cabin including my Zippy monkey circa 1950s. DF loves sushi and we dined at Nami Sushi on the NS since there aren't a lot of sushi places around here. The cocktail looks tasty as does the Rochioli which I still have a few in the cellar. When I retired we cut back on our wine ordering and this one hit the chopping block. @StLouisCruisers, @HAL4NOW and @Quartzsite Cruiserthank you for the photos of La Serena. We are going to be there next January 19th. I am glad it is a city with things to do in walking distance as we don't have anything booked to do there yet. Thanks @rafinmdfor the Daily Care and Celebration reports. It seems the top list is growing again. Prayers for all needing them especially Lenda with your husband's recovery and @kazu Prayers for your DBIL who is now hospitalized. I hope you have an easy flight to Spain. Have a wonderful Friday! 19
