New Sun Princess (Not My Princess)!?!?!

Honestly, at this point I am not sure about the accuracy of cruise mapper. I was comparing the vague decks plans on Princess and those in Cruisemapper and I found 1 discrepancy at first glance. Princess says that it will have a Crown Grill but Cruisemapper has Sterling Steak House. Maybe things are a bit in flux?

Princess.com does not have the deck plans but has some select pictures.  After looking at the deck plans on cruisemapper I will not have to worry about ever booking this ship.  One thing I liked about Princess was that the new ships somewhat followed the design of the ones before it.  But now disaster.  All the different brands that I cruise on, the buffet and the pool are on the same deck.  Having the food 8 decks below the pool (lido) is outrageous.  Really?

Don't forget the wonderful "ropes course" and "rollglider track" as well as lack of a sport court for pickleball and basketball.

What is Princess smoking these days.  They are in California where pot is legal.  No and never for us.

https://www.princess.com/deckPlans.do?shipCode=SU is the new Sun Princess

Mind the doors!

Is this ropes course always available, or just on certain nights?

I did the ropes course on the NCL Getaway. Quite a challenge. Looking forward to the Sun’s version.

Thats a good summary.

But without aft facing balconies and a good promenade to walk on I might never sail on this mega ship.  Bigger is not always better

That was my first thought! Where are my aft balconies!?!?!?

Alfredos is on the list of food venues on the website and assuming it is on the Cruisemapper deck plans as "Pizzeria" with outdoor dining on deck 9 opposite the International Cafe.

Outdoor dining is also featured on some of the recent ships, but reports say they do not use the outdoor area due to the wind while sailing.

Cruising on Princess used to be about a fun way to reach exotic destinations.

The Sun class is changing that to the ship being the destination.

Agreed. Personally I always loved that princess did not conform to all that new nonsense most Cruise lines are doing between ropes course roller glider and a ship within a ship.

The attached was originally posted to Cruise Deck Plans when the ship was announced. It was quickly replaced by the anonymised one similar to what is on the Princess website. Unfortunately CC isn’t uploading this in high resolution. I expect a lot of the venues / information are still missing from this, e.g. pool deck food etc.

suites get life boats, insides get rafts.

just kidding.

The funny thing to me about class is that when I fly, I pay the extra to fly first class to lessen the chance for some feral child kicking the back of my seat and or cry/scream for several hours.  I also fly first class for the comfort and extra service.

When I cruise, I book Luxury Inside Suites to sleep and shower in.  Once I step outside my luxury inside suite, as long as the ship has a full promenade, somewhere to get something to eat, and somewhere to get a wee dram or three in the evening I'm good

For me, I see it as a nice change of pace and would go on the ship just for that experience and not expecting to reach any exotic destinations.

I should have clarified.  They ruined the adult retreat area after the Regal.  Put cabins around it and the pool is now in a hole.  Ruined a great space.

I am a bit curious as I see that there's a pool by the sanctuary. On the other princess ships whether it's the sanctuary or retreat, the pool is usually for adults only which I like because it's secluded. I'm praying that it's now not inside of the sanctuary where you have to actually pay to have that peaceful pool.

This to me is the worst idea ever. They are starting a class by class differentiations. Suite passengers have their own restaurants, bar and sanctuary. Mini suites have their own restaurants. All the unblemished folk are excluded. If I wanted this I would sail Cunard

Nothing wrong with a cruise line trying to provide different experiences for different costs for its' passengers.  Life is about choices.  Princess is offering choices for the Cheese Burger crowd and the Beluga Caviar crowd with differentiating costs.  Smart business I think.  We definitely like the distinctions which can make cruising more enjoyable instead of being herded around a ship with the masses for everything.

I'm looking....is there no Piazza?

I thought the casino was now in what was the piazza.  Also theater in the round. I've seen this well done with certain plays (Shakespeare comes to mind) but never with the Princess type musicals

they did enchanted, majestic, sky, etc.

basically all of the ships built after the Royal until the Sun are Royal class ships. built on the same platform. Some variations in venues, but all are Royal class ships.

We'll have to agree to disagree with that. We've been on the Sky twice, the Enchanted once and the Royal and Regal more times than we can remember. The Royal and Regal are absolutely our favorite platform, pretty much a perfect fit for us but the other ships, though perhaps the same size, are very different in layout, amenities etc. In fact, the Enchanted has now supplanted the CB as our least favorite ship, one that we will never sail on again. Dysfunctional or completely missing Crooners, horrible Sanctuaries, a good restaurant in a dreadful location (Bistro)... the list goes on.

On the Sky and later it's still the retreat pool for any adult, but it's a smaller space now and most chairs are on the deck above.  Feels like the pool is in a hole, whereas on the Royal/Regal it's an open space.  To me they ruined it to add 20 or so cabins.

I:ve come to the point of acceptance on the Sky and Enchanted with the dozen or so times I've sailed on both. The regals retreat area will forever be my favorite at this point in time. Then my main question was the one up by the sanctuary according to the deck plans if that will be open to all or strictly to those who paid to go into the sanctuary. When I do go in a pool I prefer those adult only areas just because it's a little bit more peaceful.

We have only been on the Sky, but that is the retreat pool, open to all adults with the Sanctuary folks using it too just like on the Royal/Regal.

AMEN.......my thoughts exactly, but you said it better than I did.  New experiences are why I cruise.

Is there still a Vines?  If the SUN Princess does the same old Caribbean itineraries, the ship may very well be the destination

From what I can tell, there doesn't seem to be vines.
