I had to punt a bit on today's list as the first sentence ended with "and" but I was lucky to find A'phabet day. I'll pass on the Pumpkin Pie but gladly celebrate Christmas and wish all dailyites a blessed Christmas, Hannukah, or ending of the Christmas commercialism as the case may be. I love Mary Lou Retton's quote. I think I've been to Wellington exactly twice, once each on Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity. . I love the meal and it will be ham but not exactly Christmas Ham. My alternative has a bit of ironic twist. In 2014-15 I took my one Christmas cruise, then on the Ryndam out of Tampa. In the holiday period it seemed like the least stressful day to fly was Christmas Day and I did that. The flight was a success but the day was a culinary disaster with nuggets at McDonalds in BWI and a Burger King burger in TPA plus a couple of snacks from a Tampa gas station. My culinary highlight and alternative meal suggestion for December 25, 2014 is Southwest Peanuts. Neither of the meal suggestions works for me, and meals here today will be strange, even more so than usual, because of what needs to be used up. I haven't been to New Zealand, but I have been to Wellington, Ohio. It has a rather noticeable village hall. By Larry Pieniazek, Lar (commons) or User:Lar (primary) - Picture taken by User:Lar, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=3714781 I realized just now I counted the days of Hanukkah wrong. For others: There is always confusion about this, and about other Jewish holidays. For the other holidays, the confusing part is that calendars list them on the actual days, but the celebration starts the evening before. For Hanukkah, what is most necessary to know is how many candles to light, so that's what Jewish calendars show. Thus, on a Jewish calendar, the space for today reads "8 candles" because that's the number to light tonight, but then it will be tomorrow in Jewish time. kplady Posted December 25, 2022 #110 Share Posted December 25, 2022 Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all celebrating! I had an unusual surprise this morning. After DH and 2 DSs and I opened presents, I got ready to go to church. When I arrived, the temperature in the sanctuary was 37 degrees!! We were chilly last night for our Christmas Eve service, but we usually have the thermostat set at 50 when no one is using the sanctuary, so that wasn't unexpected. We had a cold church last Sunday also, and the oil company sent the repairman, who got it working but said we needed a part to be ordered. This morning, I called the oil company...with the extreme cold temperatures (yesterday didn't get out of the teens!), they said they wouldn't be able to get to us today at all. We have a small chapel in the church, and with our very small congregation we had our service there today (and it was wonderful!). The repairman came right after the service, and stayed working on things for almost 2 hours. We finally have heat today, and are just waiting for the part that was ordered to arrive - hoping that will keep the heat on!! So Graham @grapau27, Father David's sermon today really hit home for me! I so appreciate you posting the sermon every week - his message is always one I can relate to. We're having our traditional lasagna tonight - it was put together yesterday, so just has to be put in the oven. I made spritz cookies with the new cookie press I got for Christmas, so dessert is all set. Praying for everyone, whatever their needs are. Love my Daily family! Take care, Laura 19

I just think it won’t be layered like it’s supposed to be. I made many layered drinks while tending bar…here are a few hints. The drink will taste better if you refrigerate the alcohol. The heaviest alcohol, Kahlua, goes on the bottom. Next, pour the Baileys slowly over a convex( upside dow) teaspoon. Finally, the Grand Marnier, slowly over the teaspoon, trickle down the side of the glass if necessary. This is a delicious drink but will rock your world if you have more than one! 17 1
kochleffel Posted December 26, 2022 #116 Share Posted December 26, 2022 The Junior Cat has a new ritual, if that's what it is. She cries almost constantly for canned food, and the v-e-t- wants here to have some, but she will only eat one spoonful out of a can. After that, she continues to cry for it, but won't eat any more unless it's from a freshly opened can. Even opened for 30 minutes is too old. 6

JazzyV Posted December 26, 2022 #118 Share Posted December 26, 2022 Good evening. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily and all who contribute. Merry Christmas to all who celebrate and 7th day of Hanukkah! Pumpkin pie is ok. I like the quote. No ham today; it was sauerbraten, spaetzle, and red cabbage instead. Pass on the drink. Ok to the wine, if someone buys it for me. I have been to Wellington. We got up to a balmy 13F today. Boy, I'm tired. Despite doing prep ahead, there was still a lot to do. Then opening presents. I got very emotional over a gift from BFF; it was something he'd given his mother her last Christmas before she died in 1995. His father had held on to it, and since his Dad passed recently, he wanted me to have it. I was very touched. We're just relaxing now and will have dessert in a bit. @grapau27 Thank you for Fr. David's sermon today. @rafinmd Thanks for starting us up and our lists. Oh sad meal! Sounds like my Thanksgiving drive back home with only gas station snacks. @SusieKIslandGirl Sorry to hear DDIL had to be taken to the hospital; prayers all works out well. @HAL4NOW I hope you get power back soon! @ger_77 Happy Birthday! @*Miss G* Prayers for your father's health. @luvteaching So nice to have DH home for the day! @jodi58 Good to hear you're starting to feel better. @Cruzin Terri Good news about the house. @highscar (((Hugs))) Prayers for the Care List and Cheers to the Celebration List. Stay safe and well everyone. 15
marshhawk Posted December 26, 2022 #119 Share Posted December 26, 2022 @kochleffel Junior cat is training you. They are sneaky. When Feral Fawn wants "ccokies" (temptations) she get on the outdoor table, and holds one paw out, and hops around as if she's injured, until we give her the treats. And then she heals immediately. We had Chinese this afternoon, with our neighbor(minus the dog), and came back and had dessert. Talked about the fun Christmas gadgets that we had purchased over the years. I did get as a gift, a Maestro mouse who plays Christmas Carols. She had an automated bell ringer. DH loves the reindeer that is motion sensitive and makes crude remarks when placed in the bathroom... Life is good. Whether you spent the day creating new memories, or remembering better times, I hope that you all had a great day today, and I wanted to let you know how much I have loved all of you since you adopted me in here. You always make everyone feel welcome, and I hope that your joyful spirit will continue to knock the Grinch out of me, and make me more like you all. 21

I’ve made it that way but it is still hard to keep them in separate layers. I wish I had your bartending skills! But for my DM I didn’t want to give her all three bottles, just wanted to take her about two cups worth. Goodness, she still has a bottle of Bailey’s I gave her last year for Christmas. So, since I did it that way I just went ahead and mixed it all together. Not quite the same thing but tastes just as good. We each had two shots, and yes, it can kick your you know what. 12
luvteaching Posted December 26, 2022 #121 Share Posted December 26, 2022 Good evening, Well, my Christmas gift was a bust. It's been an emotional day but ended up being a good one. DH didn't get to come home because the company that was transporting him canceled and didn't let me know. The facility called at 9:45 to say that he hadn't been picked up. I called the dispatcher and she told me it had been canceled the same day I booked it. She said the notes said I had been called but I hadn't. I was home all day and had the phone right with me. No messages, no email, nothing. The dispatcher said she'd dispatch a ride for him and they'd be there in 45 minutes. I call the facility back. I get another call to say they can't transport because we're out in the county but their website says anywhere in the 3 counties (and we're in the middle of the three) and 24/7 and all weather. By then I was in tears. DS and DDIL headed in to see DH and I was about 5 minutes behind them. I took in his stocking and a couple of other gifts and we were able to have him open gifts and we were able to have a nice visit. His dinner was a PB&J sandwich and soup because it was too late to order his dinner but he likes that so it was ok. The day got better as DS and DDIL helped me set up for dinner, we got some gifts opened but we'll do part 2 tomorrow. I had 8 of us around the table and it was just what I needed. We had a great time with friends and all is well. I'm beat tonight but the tears stopped a long time ago. I tell people I was born with my bladder behind my eyes! Thanks for listening and Happy Boxing Day tomorrow! Karen 10

Sending a hug your way.
