Ashland Posted January 11, 2023 #6 Share Posted January 11, 2023 No Hawaiian shirts seen on our Panama Canal cruise this past October...San Pedro-Tampa. However wear what you want to...no one will care.
evandbob Posted January 11, 2023 #7 Share Posted January 11, 2023 Doesn't matter where, many wives select Hawaiian shirts for their husbands as a sign their men are taken already.

Do many people wear Hawaiian Shirt on the ship? Perhaps you are referring to Aloha Shirts? A good one (e.g., Reyn Spooner) would be reasonable in any tropical location and afficianados would shoot you a broad grin for your good taste. But, if you’re talking about a cheap Hilo Hattie (or ABC Store) polyester one, you’ll stick out like a sore thumb.
ldubs Posted January 11, 2023 #9 Share Posted January 11, 2023 Interesting. The Spooner's shirts are polyester blend and now made in SE Asia. Hilo Hattie's cotton aloha shirts are made in Hawaii. Sounds like logo/brand silliness. 2

I’ve got a nice small collection of some classic Alohas including from Spooner’s artists’ series of old. I also have some older Tori Richard ones (among my favorites is a silk “Don The Beachcomber” shirt)
Rare Mary229 Posted January 11, 2023 #11 Share Posted January 11, 2023 Since retirement DH wears the silk blend tropical shirts. His are more in the Mexican wedding shirt variety - same fit, fewer flowers. He gets many compliments.

I remember those old style kind of inside-out looking finishes. Maybe they still have them, IDK.

As for Spooner now, last time I was in one of their stores -last autumn- I was disappointed.

I do .As long as a shirt does not have offensive writing it should not matter what one wears.

Aaah, but "offensive" is a subjective notion. Without a recognized shirt police force it is absurd to just say as long as writing is not "offensive" it is OK on a shirt.
