daisybertie Posted April 30, 2023 #2 Share Posted April 30, 2023 It is just after 7pm Sunday evening here, and I am childishly thrilled to be the first Dailyite to post! Looking forward to the pictures of Eidfjord as we will be visiting there later this year. Thanks to everyone who makes the Daily possible. StLouisCruisers Posted April 30, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted April 30, 2023 Good morning friends! It started raining last night around 8 pm and we have had light rain ever since. It's 59F right now and we will reach 70 today with more rain all morning. Hopefully that's the end of it for a while. Meanwhile, let me thank Rich @richwmn for our Daily and Fleet Report contents for today. Also, I enjoyed the day in history item from 1952. Who knew Mr. Potato Head was the first toy advertised on TV? Pretty much everybody had to have one after that I bet. I know we had one. Our days today are Hairstyle Appreciation Day, International Jazz Day and National Honesty Day. The right hairstyle can make or break you IMO. We should also appreciate our hairstylists who stand on their feet all day making everyone over. A salute to jazz, though it's not my favorite type of music it's still great. We should all appreciate honesty! Nobody likes a liar. I noticed another important day to celebrate today so let me throw in National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day! So many here will love hearing how important it is to rescue a shelter pet, dog or cat both.🐶🐈 So all those days should keep you busy today. Let's move on to the quote. I like it so looked up the author. He was a popular humorist, actor and comedian who died in 1945. For most of us that was before our time. Today's menu suggestion is tofu stir-fry so I can nix that right now. You're welcome to my share. The drink is Pink Pineapple Tini and the wine is Clos du Bois Chardonnay. I'll have to pass on both. Thank you to Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope, and Ann @cat shepard for preparing their F&B reports for today. Don't forget your prayers today for the extensive Care list that Eva @superoma will post for us. It has ballooned to huge proportions, but I know we can support these friends with prayer and good wishes for improvement in their health. 🙏 Healing thoughts to all! For those on the Celebration list, three cheers for all of you! Anyone cruising or preparing to cruise, we wish you smooth seas.🚢 Hope we hear from you and if not, we will miss you. We expect a report on your cruise when you return. My good news for today is Ren's Jaguars won a nail biter Saturday against a tough team 6 to 5. First the Jags were ahead, then they were down, then they squeaked out a few more goals and won the game! Ren got one goal and 2 assists, his buddy Colton got 2 goals. Another former Tiger Luke also scored one. The Jags were lucky to get those Tigers this year!⚽ Now I can relax until next Sunday's game. The port of the day for April 30, 2023 is Eidfjord, Norway which is a port quite a few of us have been lucky enough to stop at in the past. It was our port of the day on January 9, 2022 so I'll post a link for you to go back and get those photos easily. We enjoyed a visit to Eidfjord, Norway on July 4, 2016 on our Best Norway Cruise Ever. It was the final port and we were so sad to see it end. My report from back then: On the fourth of July 2016, the Prinsendam eased its way down the fjord at Eidfjord and approached the pier. What beautiful scenery there is in Norway! Everyone needs to experience it once at least. DH grabbed the HAL umbrella from the closet and off we went. The umbrella from our Prinsendam closet always held off threatening rain, and it worked again this day. This huge hotel is across from the ship but I can't remember the name of it. Well it appears from this photo it is a Quality hotel. Looked very nice by the way. From there we walked to the nearby tourist information center which was quite tiny of course. I liked this display of photos taken of ships which visited Eidfjord in the past. Seemed like they appreciated cruise ships. The town was surrounded by mountains which always seem to have a swirl of clouds at the peak. We did not take a ride on the little train. I'm seated next to the Eio River which runs between a lake called Eidfjordvatnet and the fjord at Eidfjord. We kept walking because there were things on our map we hadn't even come close to seeing yet. We continued our walk to the Eidfjord Kirke, a stone church which dates back to 1309. Not a typo! This is one of the inner doors, and then they had glass across the entrance to keep us from going inside and disturbing these very old furnishings. Taken through the glass. It's in remarkably good shape. Next to the church was Trebua Woodshop with a sample of the local art out front. I heard there was an exhibit of fiddles inside. The art shows the Eidfjord Kirke in it. Leaving and looking back, you can see the steeple from the Kirke, and the tourist train which stopped there. A darling house we saw. And a more rustic building. This seemed to be a government building which had the library inside. Early on I learned Bibliotek means library. I often stop at them to search for Wi-Fi. And we found it there! We decided we'd had enough walking this day and headed back to the ship. We really enjoyed our day spent in the little town of Eidfjord. After lunch and before the afternoon cheese party on deck we got a photo of Captain D.D. on his verandah with the outside bridge wing on the right side of the photo and the Norway flag he always put out in port. When he wasn't on board the ship he rolled the flag up and slid it behind the sofa in his living room. No one ever bothered it there he said. I hope he retrieved it before the ship went over to Phoenix Reisen! Everyone wanted a taste of the goat cheese Captain D.D. had stopped to purchase at Undredal the day before. his and her plates We had a beautiful scenic cruise down the fjords that afternoon and we took many photos of the waterfalls and homes, mountains, and wildlife. But at dinner that night I ran outside at a particularly nice waterfall and saw many of our crew out there enjoying it too. Recognize anyone? View from inside the dining room. Every day was special on this Best Norway Cruise Ever! I hope you all have an enjoyable Sunday! It's still raining here! 24
Mtn2Sea Posted April 30, 2023 #4 Share Posted April 30, 2023 We were in Eidfjord five days ago while on the Zuiderdam. We took the waterfalls and waffle excursion offered by HAL. The Vøringsfossen Waterfalls were beautiful, but everyone had to be careful walking to the viewpoints because of the snow and ice. As a Floridian, I was glad someone else was driving! 26

JazzyV Posted April 30, 2023 #7 Share Posted April 30, 2023 (edited) Good morning. It’s almost 11AM, as we’ve had 5 time changes since leaving FLL. I like the days and quote. Pass on the meal, drink and wine. I haven’t been to Eidfjord. Still rough seas and 50 mph winds through tonight. Yesterday coming in from a deck, I didn’t see the step up, and fell; I landed on my knees. Several passengers came right over, asking if I needed medical. Fortunately I just bruised both knees and have tenderness and bruising. Nothing broken, but walking is painful today. Prayers for all in need and Celebration for those with good news. Rare puppycanducruise Posted April 30, 2023 #10 Share Posted April 30, 2023 Good morning. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Report. The last day of April and it's another cool, rainy day here. Oh well, at least it's not snowing.🤞 An interesting collection of days. I keep my hair short, it's the hairstyle I appreciate. Not a big fan of jazz, but I like it occasionally. Honesty is important, but it should be balanced with tact and diplomacy. Love the quote, I wish more people followed that advice. The meal sounds interesting. The drink sounds good, thanks for the recipe. Wish I was on a BHB enjoying one. I hope the wine is tasty. We haven't been to today's port. Prayers for everyone. Have a wonderful day.

ocean sounds Posted April 30, 2023 #12 Share Posted April 30, 2023 Good Sunday morning, everyone! @JazzyV, I am so glad you are only bruised! That must have been scary. So glad other passengers were around to help you! Wow, I love the port pictures! I have to add Norway to my ever expanding bucket list! Thanks to @StLouisCruisers, @Mtn2Sea, @richwmn for those beautiful photos! @summer slope, thank you for the pink pineapple tini recipe. Did anyone else watch hours of the NFL draft? We were hoping a hometown player, who went on to play for Texas would be drafted, and he was! Guess we will be watching Chicago Bears games along with Texans and Cowboys this fall! @StLouisCruisers, such good news about REN’s team! Have a wonderful Sunday, Daily friends! 26
Cruzin Terri Posted April 30, 2023 #13 Share Posted April 30, 2023 Good morning. If i don’t post now, I probably won’t later. Thank you Sandi @StLouisCruisers for the Daily and Fleet Report. Nice collection of days. I very much appreciate my hairstylist, but I am losing her. She has decided to peruse other interests—namely go work as the manager of her family’s restaurant. I am being turned over to another stylist in the salon. I hope I like her. i like Jazz. As for honesty, we really need a lot of that these days. As Sandi said, no one likes a liar. i enjoyed the quote. I will skip the meal and libations. While we will be in Norway this summer, Eidfjord is not one of our ports. I have noticed the length of the cares list and it concerns me that there are so many with medical issues. I pray for each of you every day. @JazzyV i am so sorry you had a tumble on the ship and I hope you did not hurt yourself too badly and will heal quickly. Thank you to all who make this thread happen each day. Debbie @dfish, Ann @cat shepard, Dixie @summer slope, and Eva @superoma. What would we do without all of you. Today I have to get back to work. No more lounging around like yesterday. i can’t believe I let myself watch TV all day. My project today is to sort out the clothes in the closets. When the people from Service Master brought back our stuff, they just put things anywhere. Then when they were working on the bathroom, our master closet was n’t accessible. So there’s clothing in the guest room that needs to be moved. There’s stuff to go to the Thrift Shop and then things need to be sorted out. So that is today’s project. It should keep me busy. Our weather has been sort of iffy. We have had overcast skies with periods of heavy rain. No bright sunshine. Cheers to all who are celebrating something special and cruising. Enjoy! Have a wonderful Sunday and as always, God Bless, Terri
cat shepard Posted April 30, 2023 #14 Share Posted April 30, 2023 Thank you Sandi & Rich for today’s R & D! Lots of clouds blowing in from the West this morning. We had a bit of rain last evening, but the major storms were North and West of us. Eva, thank you for capturing & sharing all our happenings! So much going on. Off to the gym early, then Aldi, Bindi walks and cleaning up after last night. Prayers for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Get well & stay well everyone! ******* Clos du Bois 2019 Chardonnay, North Coast, California I used the 2019 vintage info since that is the one for which I found the Wine Enthusiast review. It should still be very easy to find. Lots of online distributors with prices starting at $9.99 or a magnum for $15.99. 90 Wine Enthusiast The Clos du Bois Chardonnay is a refreshingly aromatic wine from the rugged coast of California. Scents of warm apple pastry rise from the glass with touches of honey and toasted oak. Bright layers of freshly sliced pear and ripe apple with zests of citrus carry through the long finish. 20 7

Wishing healing for Vanessa and congratulations to Ren. I'll pass on the meal. Rare kazu Posted April 30, 2023 #24 Share Posted April 30, 2023 thanks for our Sunday Daily, Sandi. Great collection of days. Jazz is fabulous music and honesty is the best policy (unless it’s hurtful). The things you learn! - had no idea about Mr. Potato-head. Love that quote by Benchley. There are times when it is best we say nothing. And a white wine today? Yum - hope it isn’t too oaky. Appreciate the pics of today’s port since I am not getting to Norway this May. I’ll pass on the meal - need something easy to digest for the time being. Hoping to get out later to get some earth and choose Ivan’s dog food - it’s the only thing I am missing (I think), assuming I”m not too wobbly. So far, moving slowly, so good. I’ll see how it goes 🤞 @JazzyVso sorry to hear about your fall on board 😔 I’m glad you didn’t break something and hope the hurt goes away fast so you can enjoy. There was a Bon Voyage missing yesterday for the 6th - mine. 😔 But, with sutures in my elbow, I definitely made the right decision. Prayers for everyone on the Care list & for those that need them and a toast 🥂 to those on the Celebratory / Shout Out list. Have a great Sunday, everyone !!!! 25 1

However I do hope to get to church in person today as one of our Cub Scouts will take a leadership role and be presented his God and Family award. I'm just concerned that there will likely be a downpour this morning. Roy 26
