I have been to Leixos in 2018 on the Konigsdam Iberian Adventure.  Sadly my photos are on the hard drive of my computer that will not start.

If the drive is good you can purchase this:

https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-External-Lay-Flat-Docking-EC-DFLT

or something similar and hook it up as an external drive and either transfer the files to the new computer or just use them there.

Good morning.  Thanks for the daily updates.  Three nice days to recognize although my roller coaster days are in the past.

The quote is so true, there will always be that one joker.

The meal and drink suggestions sound nice for a summer’s day.

I haven’t been to today’s port, it looks very nice.

DH’s family is starting to converge here in Minneapolis for his nephew’s wedding tomorrow.  It is going to be a fun and busy day today.

Praying for those on our prayer list today.  Cheers to those who are celebrating happy events!

Good morning, everyone!

It is kind of gloomy outside this morning.  We are supposed to have rain off and on all day.  I'll hit the gym this morning and then the day is free until Farkle time.  DN Elizabeth and her DH are joining us tonight.  A week from today we will wake up in Boston.  We have a great day planned with @Sharon in AZ.  We're so excited.

@Haljo1935 Welcome back and safe travels home.

@summer slope Dixie, when I saw today's drink it brought back great memories of sitting by the Lido pool with you on our Hawaii cruise.  I'm glad the results from the first surgery are so good and fingers crossed for the next one.

@StLouisCruisers Enjoy the early morning peace.

Today's meal sounds good to me!   I like chicken and I like pesto.  This recipe has you make your own pesto, but if you don't want to be bothered, get a jar of it in the store.   Grilled Pesto Chicken Kebabs

pestochickenandtomatokebabs1.thumb.jpg.d544b9db01520e4b90acec5292f1eae0.jpg

This next one is almost identical except for the pesto recipe.  The first one slimmed down the recipe so that it didn't contain as much fat.  This is the full fat recipe.  Pesto Chicken Skewers

pestochickenandtomatokebabs2.thumb.jpg.0b4a676434cb8600c2a8dc68eb3d2628.jpg

This last recipe makes the kebabs into a caprese salad by serving them over a bed of burrata cheese.  There is a honey balsamic vinaigrette that is drizzled over it all.   Caprese Pesto Chicken Skewers

Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Good morning from the Zuiderdam as we are just off the eastern coast of Greenland and will enter the Prins Christian Sund in about an hour. Captain Friso announced there is a huge iceberg, over a square mile in size nearby.

Thanks, Everyone, for the kind welcome home 🏡

Just boarded shuttle for the airport. Knee mostly cooperated until this morning  - I had requested a wheelchair 👩‍🦽for disembarkation and they had a letter in my cabin plus called me in my cabin to confirm, but it was nowhere to be seen this morning. It is a VERY long walk from our meeting place, through pp control and out to luggage 🧳. Knee made it about halfway; the lady behind me found someone to get me a wheelchair. Thank you, Lord, for providing angels when we need them.

Prayers 🙏 and positive thoughts for all.

@StLouisCruiserssandi, eyesight is fantastic after first surgery. Second surgery is scheduled for the 27th. Colors are so bright.

That is such good news!  Hoping for the same result with the second surgery.

Everyone must be excited!  On our cruise, any large chunk of ice in the water caused a rush to a window or out of doors.

Good sunny morning. It’s going to be a hot day today but rain is coming tomorrow.

Prayers are needed for the people in Bermuda as they wait the arrival of Ernesto.
Blessings and prayers to all on our journey.

Good morning. No surprise but it will be another hot day. Looking forward to visiting relatives in East Jordan, Michigan next Wednesday and cooler days.

Haven’t been on a roller coaster in years and have no desire to ever ride one again.
May go down to Destin for lunch today. With school starting it may be a little less crowded.🤞

Thanks to all of you who make the Daily a part of our every day routine. Have a great weekend. B.

PS: Do you have a fridge like this?  One in my garage is still chilling.

Thanks Rich.  I think my drive is still good according to the tech that worked on it.  It is the motherboard.   He did try it in one of his Dells and it wouldn't work but perhaps the external drive would.  He said my hard drive was good and if I invested $280 I could get running.  Thankfully before we headed to the cabin I backed everything up on a Toshiba external storage device.

Thanks for the daily and fleet report.  Three good days to recognize and a humorous quote.  The meal sounds delicious but not a fan of the drink (coconut flavor) and the wine is way passed my budget.  Never been to the port and 2 interesting days in history.

Another sunny and hot day in the desert.  Presently at 0600 it is 81F with 55% humidity climbing to ~106F with a slight chance of rain this evening with some wind expected.  There is a better chance of rain tomorrow.

I am subbing today for an English teacher at the Jr High.  First time there this year; I did enjoy going there last year, which surprised me immensely.  I am getting asked more this year to sub instead of grabbing the gigs on the app, which makes it easier but I feel bad when I have to say "sorry".

Thoughts for all going through medical challenges or procedures.  Cheers to those celebrating.  Have a great day everyone!!

Good morning to all on the Daily! It is deceptively pleasant outside here right now,  high 70’s.  It made me think….is it maybe going to be a tad cooler? But no….! It’s a trick!

I have never liked roller coasters.Love the quote and will watch for the recipe.

Someone brought me a bottle of coconut rum this week so now I know what to do with it!  Great timing.😎

I have been to Porto, but we were driving. We loved the city. Will look for pictures. While we were having lunch there at an outdoor restaurant, we watched a family and what seemed like fraternity brothers celebrate someone’s PhD award. Lots of funny  stuff including dumping the honoree into the fountain nearby.

A salute to National Airborne Day. We have a rather small WWII military museum in our town. About 12 years ago while visiting with my DGS and examining a map of flight plans, a veteran wandered in and started telling us about his mission. That day 5 planes left England and he was the navigator on one of them. He pointed out his flight path and told us the sobering story of who made it back and who didn’t.  What a gift to us that conversation was. It sparked a love of history for DGS. And  soon we will visit the WWII Museum in New Orleans.

Prayers for all on the Daily in need. And congrats to all celebrating. My friend Leesa has successfully completed her breast cancer surgery and is waiting for all the results of the pathology. Prayers appreciated-they seem to be working!

Debbie

AwwI do have a few photos from Leixos in September 2018.   Most are on my computer but I did a few with my phone.  We did a HA tour to the Burmester Port House for a tour and tasting, a stock market building and a church.  I have the same picture of the statue that Sandi posted.  It was a lovely day in a charming city.

Good sunny morning from central Texas where we're in for another hot day.  It is already 82F and feels like 89F.  The predicted high is 101F this afternoon.  Thankfully, by that time the humidity will have dropped and the dew point will be in the mid 60sF.  At least, it will be a dry heat which makes it a bit more tolerable if you have to be outside.  My plans are to stay inside and keep cool.

The National Airborne is an important part of the military, and our neighbor who's flag is my wind vane is an Airborne veteran.  I have never been a fan of rollercoasters, and have only been on one recently by mistake.  When we were in Disneyland Hong Kong, we boarded the Star Wars ride which was not what we expected, but Space Mountain on steroids.  I survived by keeping my eyes shut, and I did not scream.  A Cuba Libre would be a good way to honor rum day, but while we have rum, we don't have any Coca Cola in the house.

An interesting and sadly true quote today from Terry Pratchett.

We'll pass on the meal and the drink.  The wine sounds lovely, but not at that price.

We have been to Leixos and Porto several times on BHBs.  Thank you Sandi @StLouisCruisers, Nancy @ottahand7  and Jacqui @kazu for sharing your pictures.  I'll repost mine next.

The 1896 discovery of gold on Bonanza Creek changed the Yukon forever.  Sports Illustrated is a good magazine.  When DH was a photographer for The Daily Texan newspaper at UT, he had a series of photos of a long Longhorn touchdown run reprinted in SI.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, first positive thoughts for your twin's shoulder replacement surgery today.  Also, safe travels to Singapore for your DS and DDIL.

@Haljo1935  Welcome home, Elizabeth.  I'm glad someone helped you get a wheelchair, but shame on the ship for letting it fall through the cracks.

@grapau27  Thank you, Graham for the information about the Airborne.

@marshhawk  Annie, I hope all goes well at the endocrinologist today.

@summer slope  Dixie, I'm glad the cataract surgery was so successful.

@kazu  Jacqui, hang in there.  The showings are almost over, and I bet there are multiple offers to choose from on Monday.

@ottahand7  Nancy, that is good news you backed your computer up on an external hard drive.

@doobiedoe  Debbie, that's good news your friend Leesa had an successful surgery.  I hope the pathology reports are good.

We've been to Leixos and Porto three times, and for once all on HAL.  In 2004 on the Noordam III and 2008 on the Prinsendam, we stayed in Oporto.  The first time, we took the shuttle into town and walked around.  The second visit, we took the HO-HO and also did a tour of the Sandeman cellars.  In 2011, we did a tour to Guimaraes to see an old castle and the town.  I'll post the pictures of Guimaraes in another post.

Here are some of my pictures of Porto and Leixos, and I'll try not to duplicate previous pictures, which I enjoyed.  I agree the train station is amazing.  We often find ourselves checking out local stations, but none beat the one in Porto.

I'll start with Sandeman

In 2011, we took a tour to Guimaraes about 55km outside of Porto.  It is known for it's well preserved medieval buildings, including Guimaraes Castle.

A few of pictures of the castle.  The bright lights inside play havoc with pictures, and the camera cannot do the stained glass windows in the chapel justice.

Good morning. It will reach ninety today and was already toasty when walking the doggies earlier.

We went once a year as a family to Playland in Rye NY and my oldest brother was always willing to ride the wooden Dragon Coaster with me. We took our children growing up and they always found it funny that I would be willing to go for several rides but dad was waiting on the bench. To each his own. I sometimes take the dogs to the beach there in the winter as they are allowed then. Good times.

DD DH and I were in the port and  took the river cruise and sherry tour. The couple we befriended were happy to take our sherry samples. It is such a lovely city and we greatly enjoyed it. Thanks to all for the pictures.

@StLouisCruisers, Sandi, prayers for your twin today as she has her shoulder surgery. Safe travels to DS and DDIL. I hope Ren enjoys his return to school.

School doesn’t start here until after Labor Day.

I recently watched an Apple TV series about the Airborne called “Masters of the Air” and found it compelling.

@summer slope, Dixie, so glad to read about your excellent results!

My DS arrives today with one of the DGC’s. It will be a surprise! They are staying until Monday morning and I was told to sit in a corner and read while they do the work. Ha ha. I already have chili on the stove for dinner tonight but will gladly defer to DS as he is a great cook.

We have our almond Kenmore fridge we bought in 1987 - it's still running in the kitchen.  The ice maker gave out but that's been it's only issue.
