Good afternoon!  We had a nice time at my reunion last night!  Many of the guys were chunky and bald! 😃  I'm on my way to DGD's house, going to put elastic on her pre-pointe ballet shoes.  Hoping it's an easy job!

@ger_77Beautiful birdhouse!

@RMLincolnHave fun meeting new people today!

@StLouisCruisersBeautiful wedding pictures!  Safe travels home.

@grapau27Thanks for sharing Father David!

Have a good afternoon, K

@ger_77Amazing bird house. Especially love the cat in the window!

Last year I bought an apple cake mix in Norway. The photo on the front looked yummy. This week I finally got around to making it. I typed the Norwegian instructions into Google Translate and the cake turned out perfectly. After the translation, I then had to convert grams to ounces and milliliters to cups plus C to F but it all worked. Thank you Google!

Have an amazing and safe week.

Good afternoon,

Good days for many of us and @ger_77 absolutely love the bird house! I did find the mini birdhouse and loved all the details.

I'm in a "getting back into routine" mode today. One load of laundry done, some unpacking done, etc. This cruise on the Eurodam was one of the best 7-day cruises I've done. The weather cooperated and so did the ports!

Food service was very good and the Lido seemed to handle the crowds (about 2100 people) really quite well. We were always able to find a table fairly easily. At lunch I enjoy the salad bar and for breakfast I had Eggs Benedict before disembarking. We had fixed early seating (even though we were Club Orange) and it was just perfect especially for the first time cruisers. It gave them a real sense of what cruising is like at dinner. The food was wonderful every evening and we all had a hard time deciding. We did the Pinnacle on Monday night (Juneau) and it was quiet with excellent service. We were all stuffed. I did get a candied clothesline bacon for the table and the others were quite intrigued.

Tuesday was Glacier Bay and I was expecting, like last month, to head to Margerie and Grand Pacific Glaciers then a quick look at Lamplugh. However it didn't work out that way. Instead we did a drive-by of Lamplugh and went right to Johns Hopkins Glacier. We got quite close on a lovely sunny day and saw 8-10 calvings. It was truly a memory maker. The captain hung out there for close to an hour with both sides of the ship getting great views.

Friday we did the Burial at Sea for my husband, or in my words, we tossed him overboard! It was just the four of us to attend. I had worked with April, the on-board events coordinator, and two of her colleagues escorted us to the stern where a short section was roped off for us. They had a nice table set up including cookies, rose petals, etc. I brought down his small teddy bear and his small urn, his Homer Spit hat, and I wore his "Dam Ships" shirt. The urn is that pillow like container at the bottom of the picture. April printed up the nice poem and gave it to me later and I also got a certificate with the coordinates of where we tossed him. We threw the rose petals as well and then had cookies in his honor. I did well and kept it together!

Overall a wonderful experience for the week. Have a great Sunday!

This is how I plan to "go" - I've already informed my son & DIL. Hopefully that's decades away, but I can't think of a more fitting way to honor someone who loves to cruise. The ceremony for your husband sounded very nice - thank you for sharing it here.

@luvteaching  Thank you for  sharing the burial ar sea ceremony. It sounds like it was just perfect. We all should be so lucky.

@rafinmd Good to see you posting, even if the updates are not the best news. Your spirit comes through!  I was thinking today that thanks to you,  I know about the Daily..

Karen, thank you for sharing your cruise with us.  The burial at sea sounds lovely, and the way they set it up was perfect.

Thank you Lenda, Elizabeth and Graham 🙂  I will pass on your good wishes.  We truly are fortunate that our "kids" chose the spouses they have, we couldn't love them more.

Lenda, I haven't seen more signs of "that" mole, but to be sure I put down the winterizer weed killer/fertilizer this afternoon.  Now grocery shopping is done and a roast in the crock pot, time to relax!

But that stretch of water can be very rough and for two it’s their first time cruising.  So suggesting sea bands, chewable ginger and meclizine.

I use meclizine regularly but take extra precautions on rocky cruises. My suggestion is to not look outside at the horizon, especially if in the far forward (like the Crow’s Nest) or aft (like the MDR). I know it sounds counterintuitive, but trust me, watching the bow of the ship sink down and the ocean rise up messes with your equilibrium.  If it’s rolling and pitching you will find me inside away from any outside view.

Your DM has good taste! If Coffee Mate Italian Sweet Cream is out of stock, WM brand is a very respectable back up. I take a box of the singles when we cruise.

Singles?!?  I need to know more. Are they shelf stable?

I actually prefer baking in grams rather than ounces but usually when I’m baking bread. I don’t make many cakes. Yours sounds delicious!  I’m glad it turned out well. Did you have to add fresh apples?

Yes, unlike the bottle, the singles are shelf stable. I order the big box now if I have a few cruises booked, but they do come in smaller boxes.

I've taken them on Carnival, HAL & MSC with no issues.

Hello everyone.  We are now home and completely unloaded and 80% stowed. We had an unpleasant surprise with our AC.  I had is serviced in the spring and the tech told me the freon was changed about 5 years ago and it could possibly fail. Well it did. AC is off and recirculation from the cool basement is on.  A cool night in the high 50s tonight. So glad I had it serviced in the spring so I can hope for some priority in service tomorrow.

I read through everyone's comments today.  @luvteaching your DHs burial at sea was beautiful.  Thanks for sharing.  Back in the saddle tomorrow. N

Entertainment on the Eurodam:

Can I just say "WOW"! We had 3 production shows, a comedienne and the pianist Hyperion Knight did two shows. I was blown away. The three production shows were the singers (3 on two nights and the two men the last night) and dancers (6). They were high energy and were so like the shows we had before we got "Humanity", etc. They performed the first Gala night (Sunday), the glacier day (Tuesday), and the last gala knight (Thursday). Hyperion Knight played Wednesday night and Friday afternoon. The comedienne was on Monday which was Juneau. Her name was Alycia Cooper and she was good.

HAL had an independent group of 2 ladies on-board conducting a survey of mariners on the entertainment. I was asked to participate and agreed to do so. My time was Wednesday (Sitka) at 2:15 PM. The questions all related to our feelings about the entertainment both new and old. I was asked what I missed, had I seen the new shows, my thoughts, etc. At the end I was told that many mariners shared my thoughts in that we missed the production shows, the light classical music such as Lincoln Center, and we wanted more entertainment during the afternoon hours which Lincoln Center did provide. The young lady I talked to said that it was their company that did a similar survey a few years ago that resulted in the libraries being returned. The 2 young ladies (to me) were getting off in Ketchikan and heading home and were reporting to the president of HAL for what that's worth.

Yes, fresh apples that I had picked that morning. I thought about a couple of changes I'd make if I made it again but then realized that I probably wouldn't be in Norway again to get another mix.

Thanks for your post as we are booked on the Eurodam in November.  This is further proof the company is trying to "right" itself after cutting back on the live entertainment.

Karen, I'm glad they are bringing back the production shows.  I never got tired of seeing them, no matter how many times I saw them.  The only Step One show I really liked was the one that used the Billboard on Board singers.  Lately , we've also enjoyed some of the Lincoln Center groups.  Under a certain president, HAL lost its way.  I'm glad they are listening to the Mariners.  Thank you for taking part in the survey.
