Have no problem with this (and doubt that Royal does either).  Two people paid for 4 and receive loyalty points for 4.  Gaming the system would be the wife sailing solo with husband booked as 3rd or 4th person in kids cabin.  Even better if they can somehow work in the kids sail free angle.

Believe it or not, in some cases it can be cheaper.  The 150% supplement is the key.

I tried to talk the wife into taking one of these 'free' cruises the casino keeps sending me prior to our next sailing in April so we can make the next level and get more of a discount.....she won't do it....so then I said I was going to do it without her....I thought it was a great idea...we only need 4 points.....but evidently it wasn't a really good idea to say I was going to take a cruise alone...without her 😉

So paying 150% on a suite PLUS 150% on an inside; instead of paying 200% on the suite- for the benefit of 7 points (on a 7 day sailing) Keeping in mind you are D+ at this point to even qualify for the 150% supplement, so we are now chasing Pinnacle................I need a drink!

4 grand pp for a GS is 8 grand plus tax

150% supplement makes it 6 grand for solo

 

1 grand pp for an inside is 2 grand plus tax

150% supplement makes it $1500 for solo

 

Total for two cabins around $7500 plus tax

 

And like Maritime said, twice the ammenities.  Works very well on TA's and repos where suites are expensive and insides are dirt cheap

Perhaps my understanding is incorrect but A moves in with C who is not Diamond in points but acquires Diamond by virtue of the relationship with A. Same with B and D. But when A and C split up, if C has not acquired enough points to remain Diamond on their own, C would be demoted to actual points earned. C and D do not get to keep the status of their former partner. E and F would now enjoy the relationship status.

And that’s just on a GS, take a look at that on a Star class suite and there would be large savings.

It is rare that Royal actually demotes anyone.

Wife travels whilst husband works....!!  So let’s say the wife has 170 points and the husband has 100.  In this example at the end of the 5n cruise wife would have 180 and husband 110. Because they are linked in a “relationship “ they will both enjoy her D+ status on their next cruise. 

 

I know of people where one will be solo in a suite and the other in an inside. The suite would get 15 points for this 5n cruise.

This is what I thought it would be, but what had me confused was that they would book 2 cabins on the same cruise. If the husband is going to be able to enjoy the wife's level because they are married, why book the second cabin?

Chasing points.  The solo in the suite gets 3 points per night while the solo in the non suite gets 2 points per night.  They are chasing Pinnacle. If they booked one suite they would get 10 points

For Oasis & Quantum Class, If D+, inside passenger would not get unlimited VOOM from GS, and if Star Class, wouldn’t get drink package or unlimited dining or paid gratuities. I guess you can deduct that cost from the savings to see if it still makes sense. 

 

Probably makes more sense on non-Oasis/Quantum class.

Purchasing the drinks, dining and gratuities would set you back around $1000.  Star class is rarely offered for less than $5000pp and goes up significantly from there. There’s definitely savings.
