status acquired by living together

I have said this before, but if I were in charge, status acquired while linked, would only be while linked.  If unlinked, then the person would revert to their native status.

For children, they would have the status of the parents, ONLY when cruising with the parents.  And upon reaching an age (and I would accept 21), they would only have their native status, even if traveling with their parents.

To me, this is reasonable.

So for adults:

A is Diamond and marries B.  B gets Diamond.

A and B divorce, B is whatever status they are by their own points, let's say Emerald.

A marries C and B marries D.

C gets Diamond and D gets Emerald.  C and D earn no points, and get divorced from A and B.

C and D have no status at this point.

He didn't earn it so he shouldn't go. He's also not your significant other. Use the 3 drinks provided on your sea pass at other bars and have him pay for his own. The more people abuse the system they more it will end up hurting the ones who have actually earned it.

I would never abuse the system.  I was only asking as I had no idea that significant others and children automatically inheritent status.  Never hurts to ask!!

Can an adult son (48 points) cruising with his just father link to his father status and "cruise" under his diamond status?

IF you change the address the computer has no way of knowing if they are father and son or in a relationship.

Was not giving advise.   Just stating a fact.
Stupid that it doesn't ask you to say they are a significant other.

You told a poster how to circumvent the system so a non qualifying diamond could become diamond. Poor advise!

Honestly I get what you are saying but it's not up to the passenger to correct the ridicules system they have going on. They are so busy with the fake sales and over priced theme park business that they haven't even taken the time to figure out the flaw in the system.  We are Platinum on Princess and our adult children are Ruby because they didn't always sail on that line with us.  My son will most likely travel more on Royal Caribbean than we do so having the same status as him just makes me scratch my head in wonder.

I realize the system may be flawed, but we all will suffer for the dishonesty of those few that want something for nothing or advise others how to circumvent the system. We paid our dues (pun intended) and it irritates me that there are those that will blatantly brag about how to rip the system off.  I guess I'm just old school and refuse to condone those that promote it.  We are also platinum with Princess but haven't cruised with Princess since 2010.

I agree, Unfortunately word gets out faster now and to more passengers with social media.  I am not even a loyal passenger to Royal Caribbean and now I know the flaw.  I don't even agree that children should be grandfathered in to their parents tier. I can't wrap my head around that logic.

My son and his girlfriend (this is her first ever cruise) in January on the Allure.  He is a Diamond, thanks to his parents (us).  Please explain about this linking.    Both are in university, hence, have separate addresses.  Can he call Crown and Anchor and ask for a linking so that she can also access the Diamond Lounge with him.  What are the rules exactly.

She would need to have the same address as him and in the spirit of the rules she should be his significant other.

Thank you for the reply.   Soon enough when they both finish university, they will have the same address on their driver licences, so, they will simply do the Linking at that time as I am sure there are many more cruises in their future as long as she enjoys this first one on the Allure.  I mean how COULD SHE NOT!!!!

Do i have to call to have my girlfriend (yes we live together for a few years now) linked to my account? last year was her first cruise but i was under the impression you needed to marry to get the others status so i never even thought to call or ask about it, when i book i put the same address for both of us, will it automatically give her the diamond status because of that or do i have to call and link them officially? We have a cruise in Jan that i would like her to be diamond if that's a possibility. We get the unlimited drinks but i do enjoy the pre dinner apps and company of the diamond lounge on most voyages, i've met alot of great people in there!

On MSC if you do not cruise within 3 years you lose your status.

I see nothing wrong with that. It's a pretty generous time frame

I know people like to compare C&A to airline, hotel or casino loyalty programs but it''s still not quite the same thing because of frequency.  People won't think twice about booking a flight to visit a friend, for business, etc or to hop in a car to go to the local gambling hall. Cruising is still a big-budget purchase that happens more infrequently, especially when working and going on other vacations.

3 years is okay as a minimum. I'd suggest 5 years only because that is the length of time before BOA points expire. I wouldn't go more than 5 years. A diamond that sails only once in 5 years is probably not much of a drag on the bottom line or contributing to overcrowding the DL.

Royal Caribbean has opened itself the doors wide for growing C&A membership scam

Could be that they don't mind, which is why they don't fix the flaws on the system or look the other way when someone shares a drink voucher. The more happy C&A members, the more likely they are to become repeat cruisers.

I'm not sure anything is broken.  It's a loyalty program designed to motivate guests to come back.

A child who grew up taking a few cruises will likely cruise themselves as their life, career and bank account progresses.  Once they are in that position if they had no status it would be an even playing field with little motivation to prefer Royal.

My kids missed out because my Diamond status came when they were 19 or above.  As adults now one of them wanted to book a cruise this coming December.  Absent of anything else they shopped by price.  They don't have big bank accounts, I get it.  Royal wasn't cheapest.  Guess who won their business?  Not Royal.  If they had inherited Diamond status I can state with certainty Royal would have won their business.

Those are the rules and we accept that.  They missed inheriting Diamond by one year.   At least no one can complain about them crowding up the DL.  Not even Royal since they won't be on a Royal ship.

Is the benefit extended to paramours for just the illicit cruise or will they remain permanent?

Once the tier level is given that person doesn't lose it after the cruise or if the relationship ends. BTW I do like your carefully selected words.
