I also think/suspect Allure’s dry dock is not going to happen immediately. I think it might be delayed, due to flying specialists to Cadiz to work along with the dry dock workers. A recipe for disaster. Not to mention if they did start tomorrow and no dry dock workers were sick, where would they sail in Europe. Italian ports are not welcoming people, and what about France and Spain.🤷♂️ 1 hour ago, MightyMike said: To me, it feels like we are in the worst of all possible situations. If everything would have stayed open, the virus would have just run its course. Since we are closing everything, there is a huge economic impact. But since we waited for the virus to get a foothold before closing everything, we might not be able to contain it and it might just run its course anyway. It feels like our decisions created the worst possible outcome--a pandemic *and* an economic mess. If it was left to run it’s course unattended, your last sentence would still be the same but worse. I believe/think that’s what you are saying.

It feels like, and of course it's unknown right now, that if they cancel they'll have to issue refunds and they are just bleeding the clock now to avoid as much of that as possible. They may not 'want' to issue refunds but that decision may come back to bite them in the weeks / months to come. So far the following lines have all suspended operations; Viking, is offering the choice of a future cruise voucher, valued at 125 per cent of all money paid, or a refund equal to the amount paid. Princess, guests have the opportunity to transfer 100 per cent of the money paid for their cancelled cruise to a future cruise of their choice. Plus an additional future cruise credit benefit that can be applied to the cruise fare or onboard expenses. Virgin Voyages, Guests can receive 200 per cent in future voyage credit, which can be applied to another sailing, rather than a refund. This is double the value of an existing booking Celestyal Cruises, guests will be offered the choice of either a future cruise credit valued at 120 per cent of original booking value or a refund of original amount paid. Disney, guests affected by this decision will receive a future cruise credit or a full refund Windstar, guests can choose a future cruise credit valued at 125 per cent of all monies paid to Windstar or a refund equal to the amount paid on the Windstar booking. Saga, offering customers a full refund or credit for future sailings. Avalon Waterways, guests can move travel dates without incurring cancellation fees, land or airline penalties. Plus a bonus credit of $200 per person for a new reservation. The following are currently carrying on with operations: RCI, NCL, MSC, Celebrity, Azamara, Costa, P&O, Cunard, Silversea, Oceana, Regent Seven Seas, Holland America, Carnival, Crystal, Pullmantur, and many more...…. Iamcruzin Posted March 13, 2020 #203 Share Posted March 13, 2020 I think I'm starting to change my view on this whole mess. DW had anxiety because Governor Cuomo declared a state of emergency. Last night she came home with a case of wine. This morning she hit the supermarket at 6:00am before she went to work. The shelves were empty of frozen vegetables, meat, white bread, soap, toilet paper (save those brown paper shopping bags) and soups. She came home with a lot of pasta and rice, junk food and whatever basics she could get. Now I'm thinking I need to be on a Royal Caribbean cruise for the next 60 days just to get away from the crazies and so I can get soap, hand sanitizer, toilet paper ,a decent meal and a Coronavirus test. While the cruise industry is tanking, Proctor and Gamble and Georgia-Pacific seem be making money hand over fist. I'm starting to believe that this State of Emergency is put out to stimulate business in other areas to offset the sinking economy.

How long? I'm not a professional, so I don't know, what I know is that I wish for you all that governments worldwide start taking this virus more seriously than they are doing now. In Italy at the beginning of the epidemic a huge amount of people have been tested and numbers increased rapidly, other countries didn't , so maybe they could think they were above the problem. We have the most strict measures against the virus, in last 2 days measures have become even more severe: we cannot go out from home if not strictly necessary (buying food or go to work, the ones who still have to), everything is closed, as I said in other topics, churches, shops (with the exception of supermarkets, bakeries and similar), schools, no gatherings of people allowed (and I mean 2 people are considered a gathering), the police check people going around by car to see if they are allowed to...a limitation to personal freedom? Maybe, but it's necessary to stop the virus from spreading even more. We have to be responsible for our community's sake. So, if thousands people here can afford (or try to) to close their small businesses, shops, bars, restaurants, for 1 month, I think that big companies should do the same. I'm no economist, just using some common sense. Travelling is not a primary need, and this is the right time to stop, think, be responsible and then restart our normal life, as soon as possible. Best wishes to you all. Is food in short supply in the supermarkets? People have gone made here hoarding everything in fear that they won't be allowed to go out and shop for food. We have a supermarket delivery service here where you shop online and they deliver to your house. The problem is everything is out of stock. My family too has been affected by having to cancel our land vacation and having our child's spring sport canceled, and likely school being canceled starting next week. The sooner we all take this "social distancing" seriously, the quicker the virus will be contained and start to fizzle out and we can get on with our lives. I leave tomorrow on a cruise so it begs the question; Why do some still want to cruise? I can't speak for everyone but some reasons could be: It is in our DNA, most here had family who initially came over to America on a ship, discarding the high likelihood of disease and death while in transit. Several, like myself are Navy sailors who have spent years at sea facing challenges far, far greater than a flu type virus. Some do not want to feel held down and minimized as their freedoms are slowly being taken away. An escape from reality- (fighting for toilet paper, constant news media) Some had years of planning or once in a lifetime special events A couple are just your typical bat poop crazy individuals.

LizzieandLuke Posted March 13, 2020 #213 Share Posted March 13, 2020 I just read a report that those who have recovered from the virus have lost 20% of their lung capacity. I think cruises are a hot bed and think RC should cancel and to prevent those who are selfishly willing to still go. You may be young and healthy but that doesn't mean you won't pass it to someone who isn't. It is a vacation.

Numbers from S. Korea where they are testing everyone that comes in the death rate is .77% so, less than 1%. The doctors found a drop of 20% to 30% in lung capacity in two or three out of those 12 patients.

No, supermarkets are full of everything you may need to survive and more...some people on the first days of the emergency ran to the supermarkets to stock up on food, but they were only the usual hysterics that you may find everywhere...no need to fill our houses with food, we can always go out and buy what we need, it's almost the only exception to the "stay at home" rule, the only issue are the queues outside the shops, since only a few people can enter at a time. And of course we can always shop online. Edited March 13, 2020 by ela05
