Will Allure be AMPED?

I wish that it could be approved for 2-4 day cruises to no where.  Prove you are healthy, crews would all be healthy, and we could just sail for a few days.  Just sell balcony cabins, and make it fun.  Anybody ready for that?

I'm not flying anywhere for a 2-4 day cruise even in the best of times.

Does anybody know how long Allure of the Seas is to be in Southampton for again? I see that she arrived early this morning. Could she possibly be heading south to Cadiz soon, hopefully?

Allure is scheduled to depart Southampton on Saturday the 25th at 5 PM.

The latest news from Navantia is that, while Royal Caribbean have cancelled the contract, the limited project can be saved only if the decision by all parties is clear by the 26th of April or the new contact will be lost by the shipyard. That coincides with the movement of Allure at Southampton.

The labor unions are currently stopping the re-opening of the shipyard due to the lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). There is a Saudi Arabian military project along with the Carnival project being delayed. A Spanish military frigate has been approved to start with work commencing on Monday the 27th.  The Spanish government would have to approve the entry of Allure prior to the 10th of May at this time as the state of emergency has most likely been extended.

Any idea what's covered in the new contract, and does it have to start prior to May 10

The only thing stated so far is that it will not include any refurbishment of the cabins on the ship. That was the initial reduction, while you were still on the TA, prior to arrival at Barcelona. I do not remember perfectly now, but think they referenced a June completion date with 3 weeks in dry dock. It seems the Carnival project will have a separate set of workers and will spend much more time in dry dock.

They do not disclose all details, but it sounds like there have been some back and forth negotiations going on and that the shipyard is pressing the government to exempt the project from the extension of the Spanish state of emergency. The shipyard is government owned through SEPI, the Spanish industrial holding company.

Allure departing Southampton right on time and now shows a return to Southampton on Wednesday, May 6th.

Hopefully that could lead to an arrival on Monday, May 11th at Cadiz if the Spanish state of emergency is lifted. There is no confirmation of that, but the movement of the ship would fit that possible timeline.

Spain is allowing families to take children out for walks within 2 miles of their homes from tomorrow and that has allowed for the opening of some beach promenades. Sunbathing and gatherings are still in violation and subject to citations.

It does not appear likely at the moment that the Spanish government will or could get approval to continue the state of emergency past the 10th of May.

The cabins were never planed to be refurbished, except for replacement of TV's but otherwise the only thing to be done with cabin would have been to add more of them and these kind of projects will likely be cancelled going forward.

You mean cramming more and more people into the ships is not a good idea?

All work on cabins, including the addition of new cabins was already cancelled prior to the ship's arrival in Spain. The reduced contract was cancelled. We are now waiting to see if Navantia will secure a new contract with whatever RCI will want to have completed. Information will hopefully leak out in the coming week.

It never was!

Allure, Liberty, Adventure and Explorer will now be my favored ships for booking in the future. I hope that the addition of cabins and the reduction of public areas is delayed for many years. They can update and refresh all the public areas they want.

What about the Azipod issues?

It looks like they are trying to get into Cadiz, just through the fact they are keeping the ship in Europe. In the worst case they will have to take her to another dry dock that is open, like Rotterdam among others.

Rotterdam has had the World Dream in dry dock since April the 2nd and she should be in the final week now if the project is going as planned.

Do you think that this also include the cosmetic work that they were planning for all the Spa Balcony cabins that they have been selling.

The statement from the shipyard just states that the original reduction of the contract did not include any work on the cabins. It was very general.

Most upgrades on the spa cabins are 'soft' items that can be done very quickly in a 'modularized' ship stateroom. Very few structural changes are ever done to ship cabins under renovations.

Yeah, the biggest things they did on Oasis with those cabins was a carpet change and new couch which could be done later by taking several cabins out of service for a week. Since the ships won’t be sailing full it’s not like they even have to rush to do a few cabins on turnaround day.

Replacing TV's in staterooms if needed can also be done on turnaround day or even during regular operations. More than this was anyway not planed for existing cabins, Royal is not prioritizing upgrading cabins + their bathrooms, it was not even done on the Amplification of the Voyager and Freedom class ships although there it was really needed. If you are lucky the carpets have been exchanged.

If they truly had all of the material staged for the dry dock, they should be able to get things to where ever she is docked and do some of the "turnaround" updates before they start sailing again without taking valuable shipyard time for the minor stuff.

We had our carpet changed while we were in port on Explorer many years ago.  We were asked to put all of out stuff the was on dressers into the dressers and to put our luggage out on the balcony.  When we returned in the afternoon we had new carpet and just had to bring our luggage back inside and stow under our bed and take our other stuff out of the dressers.  No big deal.

That is my thought.  They were ready to go into that dry dock when they arrived in March so everything is probably sitting there at the shipyard.

This was posted today:  https://www.diariodecadiz.es/noticias-provincia-cadiz/coronavirus-cadiz-ralentiza-reapertura-astilleros-epi_0_1457854639.html

"We have always opted for the reactivation, but one of the conditions was that the security protocols were complied with. Masks, gloves are missing ... We cannot continue like this, " said Sierra, who has given as an example the situation of the cleaning staff. . "They have the same masks for days and do not change them," he said. "If this is happening here, we have been the first to start, to see what happens next week in Puerto Real and San Fernando, " said Sierra.

This lack of means could be exacerbated if jobs that employ a large number of auxiliary industry operators are reactivated, such as the remodeling of the 'Allure of the Seas' cruise ship, which was suspended due to the state of alarm and which the works council trusts. to reactivate in the coming weeks.
