Well, even £100 would be a slight help!  I hadn't heard about that.  Round here my present quote is 90.55 a litre, which I think has gone down a bit.  As soon as there is room in the tank I will order some, as it always goes up in the winter, of course.

I must admit to being rather depressed at present - with good reasons - but at least I can afford to eat and heat; it must be awful for those who really struggle as it looks like things generally will get worse, not better.  I do try to remember that many are a great deal worse off than myself - or most of us on here.  Keep up with the jokes and puns, please,  Kalos et al.  They help us all to keep sane and cheerful.

I'm so sorry you are feeling depressed at the moment.

I hope these memes makes you smile.

Sending you our love.

Graham and Pauline ❤️

Our current fixed rate deal ends on 4 October, so based on predicted annual usage we expect a monthly payment £205, the fixed rate was £120 pm, but we are almost £400 in credit. We are below the average household in gas & electricity use despite being home most of the time. The investment we made in improving energy efficiency of our old property is paying off, we had external insulation installed in 2015, using a 95% government grant, the loft is fully insulated and part boarded with the stuff on top adding to insulation, windows are double glazed. All the light bulbs are now LED, apart from the ones in the fridge & oven, we replaced our old external doors with more thermally efficient composite ones, plus we replaced our 17 year old combi boiler in May with a new more efficient boiler, so hopefully gas usage will reduce. Our energy supplier has said over last 12 months our energy usage for gas has gone down by 22% and 18% for electricity, we are now into the 13 month of having a smart meter, which makes me wonder how accurate were the old meters were.

My husband suffers from SAD, we have gradually changed all our light bulbs to day light rather than warm white, I can’t remember the kelvin but basically the higher the better, we also have led Xmas string lights to brighten up the place, our house is pretty dark & it really does help.

Fairy lights are a great idea - really cheery, and I don’t think they eat too much electricity?  You can get all sorts of designs - butterflies, dragonflies, actual fairies - as well as just bulb shaped bulbs.

I really like these.  Have a set along the headboard and they give a nice warm glow whilst providing enough light to get into bed without putting on the bright full lights.  These are the original suppliers but you can get cheaper sets … to some extent, as ever, you get what you pay for

We have Danish Hygge lights in the living room. They are bigger than fairly lights and low wattage.

We also have lots of (electric) candles to make the room cosy and a range of soft blankies.

The Danes have the book of hygge, we Scots have the book of coorie. These are both real books and have some nice ideas for winter coziness.

I think you mean Becket (Jane). The last time we heard she was ill, and another poster on here  who must have had some contact with her, said she would post again when she was feeling better. It is worrying.

The lady with daschies is Emma (cpm)? and Andy doesn't post often now because he's busy with his business. At least I hope that's the reason.

I hope they are all well.

How come Avril can remember everyones names, does she keep a journal, or does she not suffer from old age memory loss,  like the rest of us?🤔

My memory isn't what it used to be.

It bothers me sometimes, but the rest of the time I just forget about it.:classic_unsure:

Ok then.....Becket because the old Barnsley hospital was named Becketts  and Jane worked for the NHS. Emma because I have neice called Emma who has a little dacshie and Andy, well who can forget Andy😉

It's a little trick I use to try and remember names. It only works if I can think of something to connect them with, so not that clever, but it can help.

Word association !

It is how card counters in casinos remember what cards have been dealt. They construct a story with each card becoming part  of  the narrative.

Mind you, I can remember all the words of Bohemian Rhapsody,  but forget why I have come into the kitchen !

The answer is normally beer,  or is it wine?

A very early morning to you. As usual I go off to sleep quite quick nowadays but now wake up often at 3 or 4am wide awake!

Hubby’s birthday this week so we might,  just might, go away for one night! Can I trust my parents to be left?! They are still taking up a lot of our time but I’ve got irrationally annoyed that my sister (who lives 2 hours away) has just booked a week in Kos in 2 weeks time!!

Sunday we are going to our son’s for a birthday dinner for John so looking forward to that.

I'm here too.  I'm a terrible insomniac and have been for years.

Tonight I am trying to research meditation as when I am in bed my brain wakes up totally and although it's usually nice thoughts, I just can't shut down.

Has anyone tried meditation.. could it help a long term insomniac who would be quite happy going to bed at 6.00 am.  All other avenues have been tried.. ie Drs, etc

Even though I  get up early, I'm very good at sleeping ..I can do it with my my eyes closed

As you are a confessed insomniac and you usually have nice thoughts  ..Just think ...

Only five more sleeps to Christmas for you !😊

You could buy a memory foam pillow and see if that helps ,I bought a second hand one

off E-Bay but I couldn't settle ,it wanted to know who the hell I was

Good luck with the meditation ,I suppose it's better than sat around doing nothing :classic_unsure: Have a good day and take care :classic_love:

Meditation works for some, it is worth trying. I have some success but also find that it depends what I am reading or watching before bed. They do say you dream about what you were thinking before you go to sleep however I have never dreamt about page three girls on a bouncy castle.

Since hitting a certain ‘time of life’ for ladies, I have had sleeping issues, sometimes I feel l Iike I’ve forgotten how to sleep.

I can fall asleep on the sofa while watching tv, but once I’m in bed I’m wide awake.

I haven’t tried meditation but one thing that works for me is reading on my kindle, no need to reach over & turn a light off, I often wake up to find my kindle on the floor or occasionally balanced against my husband’s head 😂

I wouldn’t recommend trying it, but since having the unmentionable virus several weeks ago and still coughing and feeling exhausted, I’m sleeping the best I have for a few years!

When I was a day patient on Wednesday they decided to give me full sedation instead of just being whoozy.  Well, when I woke up I was so comfortable and sleepy it was lovely.   I expect the other patients just wanted to wake and be alert, but I was so relaxed and comfortable I could have stayed there!  Then my daughter , who works there, arrived and that was the end of that!😂

This Christmas,  as we are not away, my daughter has invited us again for a lovely day of absolute chaos.

The inlaws will  be there and they insist on buying the meat so I will also contribute with either an Ocado or Waitrose shop.  Waitrose slots aren't available yet but managed to grab an Ocado.

I pay a monthly sum for off peak deliveries, Tues to Thurs.  This is one of those days but they are charging nearly a tenner for the Xmas delivery on 22nd.  Bit hefty and a bit of a cheek I think.

I booked my Waitrose Christmas slot (still £3 delivery) a few days ago - I do have them deliver every 9 days so not sure if that makes a difference……

Are you feeling better?

I was but the visit to the shops has exhausted me. I managed to keep away from everyone though. A Tesco delivery order for Tuesday is my plan for this afternoon and dozing/kindle reading

I have had 2 Tesco xmas deliveries and basically I bought far too much stuff. This will be my 3rd xmas alone and I intend to keep things simple. A nice ribeye steak and bottle of Shiraz for xmas day and maybe a mince pie or two. I have booked a xmas/new year Canaries cruise for next year as the previous ones were enjoyable.
