The holiday season,
But why be merry?
Is there even one reason?
To decorate the house
And put up the tree,
When no one will see it,
No-one but me.

 

But outside my window
The snow gently falls,
And I think to myself,
Let’s deck the halls!
So, I gather the ribbon,
The garland and bows,
As I play those old carols,
My happiness grows.
Christmas ain’t cancelled
And neither is hope.
If we lean on each other,

Rumour has it that most cases here are in our three prisons with very high percentages of infections stated, but I don't know  if it is that thats not helping the figures or if its in the general population.

 

I did say some weeks ago about a lady I know who borrowed a friend's COPD lanyard because she didn't fancy a mask.  She had some weird ideas.  I think the message got through eventually but perhaps people like that helped put our small community where we are now.

 

I'm not going out the door!

Have to say I have been feeling pretty grumpy about putting up the decorations this year. I usually love it but not so excited this year. Then today seeing the children at work when the saw the Christmas tree (they were soooooo excited litle ducks) and even the oldest when they were talking about their advent calendars - it did make me smile loads.

Our children can teach us a lot, and we still have a lot learn😉

We don't normally start our Christmas celebrations so early as the children end up on the ceiling by the end of term, but hey, they deserve it this year so let them all get excited and have a wonderful 3 weeks together celebrating. (Remind me I said this in 3 weeks time ............ am sorting out the Cocodamol headache treatment as I type 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 )

My husband, son and I walked to Hempstead Valley yesterday and got a few bits from Sainsburys, Boots and M&S before all the shops open on Wednesday, figured it would be much less busy. Youngest daughter is a little bit nervous about going back to work there later this week. The COVID rate in our immediate area fluctuates but is currently around 3 times the national average.

 

I’ll be going to Hempstead next Monday for my flu jab. I’ve got an early appointment, so I’m hoping it’ll be fairly quiet. Then we’ll go to M&S for some food that we want - after that, I hope to stay under the radar for several weeks.

There once was a site called cruise critic,

I'm not going out the door!

I’ve been lying low for ages, only going out shopping and more recently delivering newspapers and fresh clothes to the hospital for my dad four times a week. It usually works okay, I call the ward as I approach the entrance then someone comes up to reception to collect my delivery and hand over any washing. As such I have no contact with anyone apart from the messenger, however on Sunday a chap walked up to me and croaked “Do you know where I go for a COVID test.” I immediately backed away and said “No!” 😱

It’s horrible when people are suffering and even worse when children have health issues so I hope that things improve for those of you who are experiencing additional challenges on top of Covid problems. 
 

The run up to Christmas was always the best time of year for me as a pupil and as a teacher. Hectic but great fun. It’s sad to think that there’s no singing this year, no concert for parents or holding a service in the local chapel. No community events. For me, that’s much worse than pubs having to close early!!

I have to go into Rainham to collect my repeat prescription but apart from that there is no need to visit any shops. Luckily I have a weekly Tesco delivery with slots reserved up to xmas but still try to go for a daily walk. I do miss my regular visit to Costa in Hempstead Valley for a bit of people watching. I like the toast as well. They threatened ( in a friendly way) to throw me out  a few years ago for telling everyone how many calories were in the cakes 😈 😁

You do need to put some items onto your order, but if you use Your Favourites feature, this enables you to put down most of your regular items then, if you print it off, all you need to do is add items to your list and then update your order the day before delivery.

A little aside.. I did an order (its a very cold store!!) which had £10 off.  It was a one day deal.

 

The day before delivery I went in to add some bits and the £10 off disappeared.  It seemed like I couldn't edit a special deal even though I ordered on the day!  I hope that makes sense.

This made me laugh.  One of my favourite USA chains is the Cheesecake Factory, but we only ever have lunch there because the dinner portions are enormous.  I felt quite smug because I always chose a chicken salad (with a fried onion topping 😁) and then they started printing the calories on the menu.  My lunchtime salad had more than 1200 calories!!

 

Being Mrs Smug, as well as mrsgoggins, I will add that my Tesco slots are booked until 7th January 😊
