Thanks everyone for your good wishes.  Its such a shame, we have all been very strict with ourselves.

 

One of the worst things that is hurting my daughter and myself, and also the grandchildren is that I will be moving soon, but they haven't been able to go to see my purchase, and my daughter and I haven't been able to gossip and decide on colours, materials and bits and pieces.  That does hurt.  I value her opinions.  They are desperate to help me and have a laugh during the move but we will have to make up for it in the summer hopefully.

 

I've decided to have a treat and employ packers.  I can go out when they come.

Luckily he isn't too bad.  They followed every rule they could but having to work is probably what got him.

I feel for you, we are having to self-isolate as we were with my son and daughters on Christmas Eve and two of them have developed coughs and have ordered tests. They have all been careful too.  My son works as a pharmacy assistant, my daughter is a teaching assistant and youngest daughter is a nurse, so their jobs put them ore at risk and living together in one house. Until they are tested and get the results we are all staying in. Just hoping that the results are negative.

The weasly  words are the problem, should/could/would. I posted earlier somewhere about people travelling from Leeds (tier 3) into York (tier 2) to go boozing, the police were manning the train station trying to deter people. They just asked the police where it said they must not go.

You have hit the nail on the head.

Unless you are told it is illegal by law all the other words are just confusing everyone and the guidance contradicts itself.

The shops were glad for the business and weren't bothered where people were from.

The same has been happening from East Yorkshire into North Yorkshire last week, Police were stopping cars and asking people the purpose of the journeys.

Not sure how many where turned around but you can bet some did not tell the truth.

No weasel words up here, just large fines.
 

The travel restrictions are in law up here and fines are issued if people are caught out of their council area for anything but a very few exceptions. As we are all currently in level 4 across the whole country it means no one can go anywhere.

 

Even when the levels were different you were not allowed to travel in levels 3 and 4. Those in levels 1 and 2 were not allowed to go to level 3 or 4 areas (but could travel through them but not stop in them).

 

As many Council areas of Scotland are spilt by water and bridges it’s easy to monitor travel patterns.

Having read some of the latest comments with increasing disbelief, the only thing I have to say is this, roll on Tier 4+ for the whole country. Shops in some places might not care where some people come from, but people living in our national parks here in Wales sure do care when reading reports about the police turning Londoners away. For goodness sake, can’t people just stay local for a few more weeks? Is that really so difficult?

So basically, I can go where I want, regardless of the advice. Thanks. Guess I'll drive my wife up to York tomorrow, as no cares about following the rules. Not sure why I've bothered staying local for the last two months,

I am in complete agreement. I know there is a difference between advice and law but quite honestly, I despair that so many seem to think it is OK to put themselves and others, family, friends or random strangers, in jeopardy just because the law has been left with huge loopholes. I know you have had the virus Graham and am delighted that you overcame it, but we cannot make that a legal or non legal exemption.

And of course it’s not just Londoners. The police have stopped people from Swansea, Cardiff and Newport who aren’t supposed to visit the Brecon Beacons too. Also a mini bus full of visitors from Cheltenham!

The only answer is to put the rules into law.  The idea that people will follow the advice is naive to say the least, there will always be some people who think that  advice does not app!y to them and will continue to do as they please.  We will see what happens regards tiers when they are reviewed.

We are normally very social people, but we have been nowhere for months and months.  Our choice I know, but I would hate the thought of accidentally infecting others.   We discussed it and made the decision.  If contracts hadn't been exchanged we would probably put things on hold.

 

Tier 5 might be in operation later today.. lets hope they make laws not suggestions. Then we all know where we stand.

 

We are both cancer  survivors and I am  heart patient... we must consider ourselves vulnerable even though we might feel ok.

We stopped in the house all of the first lockdown except once a week going for food shopping less than 1 mile away and worked from home.

If we go into tier 4 or a national lockdown on December 30th we will go food shopping once a week and stop at home and work from home.

If it is legal and non essential shops are open we will go if we want to.

A update on my circumstances  , I have never been anywhere for 14 months 

apart from a few times to a country park a couple of miles away and then I sit

in the car, to keep me away from any people .

When I took ill the guys at work bought me a gift card for Meadow-hell  that was

valid for a year but I got them to extend it another year . Shopping can wait  ...

health comes first .

Moving on my Doctor rang me and at long last ...My Cardio specialist wants a

telephone chat with me  next week !  A year on and he has finally looked at my 

scans !  Where I go from here who knows but I for one will be staying safe .

Keep safe folks don't risk it.

I agree that clarity would help and cannot understand why the government seem to not want to make it clearer. Regardless of that, surely most of us don’t need the law to be prescriptive. We have been doing what we know to be right and best for everyone. I regret that not everybody has done this.

I think one reason why it has not been made law is because it makes more work for the police force.I think the police on Leeds station (and similar) is supposed to act as a deterrant but obviously it hasn't worked for everyone!

That's good news that your cardio specialist wants a chat with you Kalos and hopefully a future treatment plan can be arranged.

I agree Pete.  We have only left the house to go for a daily walk and I have done food shopping once a week and earlier in the year, before the first lockdown, I went to my niece's house twice a week to care for her children while she went to work as a ITU nurse until she was diagnosed with cancer and has been at home herself.  We don't need laws to make us do what is right but unfortunately some people think that advice means that they don't need to stay home and can go out and about exactly as they have always done in the past so I think that to stop this more draconian measures will be needed.  I also think that the government were wrong to let people mix in groups of up to 3 households on Christmas Day, did they think that Covid knew that it was Christmas and took a day off ?   I am starting to think that peop!e are becoming too complacent.
