How are things where YOU are? (in relation to the Corona Virus)

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks

Thanks for all that suggested pain medication (Endone) , Yes I am aware of Endone  but together with my GP I have decided to keep the use of opiates down as much as possible so I am using a cocktail of drugs for pain control I am also enrolled at the pain control clinic at my local hospital  and am due to see a specialist pain control doctor next month

I also have used the ambulance a few times when things get out of control , they turn up and pump me full of morphine and I end up in casualty for eight hours  and get sent home with small amount of endone

Drugs I am using include Palexia, Lyrica . Panadine Forte , and Bushcopam  thats in addition to approx 17 pills via webster packs for blood pressure , thyroid and other issues , Oh not forgetting Fuselemide (PEE PilL)

So you can all see that my case is totally hopeless  the only thing that helps is  at least TEN DAYS at sea preferably in a nice suite

The cure to be repeated as needed

Regards

John

pps Its a good idea that we all stay away from hospitals ..leave the beds to those fighting for their lives  I wont be going unless its a dire emergency

Sorry guys, I was replying to OZKIWIJJ and have no idea what happened - even where the post went - here it is again

Won't be doing early shopping for seniors ever again. Well, maybe when I have completed a course in Tai Kwon Do or similar. Chuck Norris would have been kicked to death. That was Tuesday last week - don't know how it is now. That's in sunny Perth. Did ok at Dan Murphy's though on Sunday morning, thanks to a chat with my brother in the UK on Saturday night. He managed to get the last 4 bottles of wine and 4 pack of beer from ALDI after their lock down. So we thought that might happen here - better get in quick. Got a little stock up for our caravan club rallies...….which have no been cancelled - so a little tipple hither and thither is in order. We are staying home, finding jobs to do, making the most of a bad situation like everyone else, please all stay safe. Don't go early morning shopping though -it could be bad for your health - won't need the sanitisers, just bandages and band aids, maybe a crutch 🤕

It wasn't that bad in my shopping centre. Everyone was very civilised but the shelves were annoyingly empty in Woollies.

I’m a nurse, working every day, we’ve been advised that our ward will be a corona virus ward, so we sit and wait.

I got a case of wine delivered from my favourite bunamagoo, and a case of cheapies from Dan’s. Luckily we were overseas in January so we both have 2x1.25L bottles of required spirits.

My son has been laid off, finishes work on Friday, so he and his girlfriend who arrived from the UK two weeks ago, will be living with us, we are currently living in a small rental after our house burnt down due to a car fire last month, Ive restocked my pantry, and after the lovely ladies at woolies gave me some toilet paper (I literally had none, not a roll, believe me not a good time to be stocking a house!) Ive got something to wipe my bum with. Our 30th wedding anniversary was this week, our celebratory dinner was cancelled and our holiday to Egypt and Jordan was cancelled, but, tomorrow I get up and go to work, grateful I still have a job, deal with people who just dont get it, try my best to protect my staff, and hope to God they stay safe.

I know everyone here is doing the responsible thing, but just know there are so many people behind the scenes, that have crap going on in their lives, that still turn up every day to keep you and your family safe.

PS dont abuse the person who may have a trolley full of food, because maybe they like me, have nothing, just be kind....

Hope all goes well for you - sadly witnessing the abuse in the stores to staff is something I find abhorrent, they are doing a job. A staff member took two packs of toilet rolls to two ladies at the end of the aisle who couldn't get up, one in a wheelchair, the other with a walker. There was no way they were getting up that aisle. My role in this was to tell the staff member of the issue. No, I can't walk away when mob rules, and others ignore the less able. I stuck my nose in - got abused......worth it in my opinion. But I ain't going there again😖

Sounds like you have more than  used up your quota of bad luck, so hope it is smooth sailing for you and your family from now on.  I can't begin to imagine what it would be like to have your ward converted to a corona virus ward.  The waiting!  The Not Knowing when the surge will come!  But knowing it will come!  The great unknown unknown!

Hope you and your team stay safe.  Know people appreciate the priceless work nurses do and that you are valued by the community.  .

Happy 30th wedding anniversary.  When you married, you couldn't have imagined in your wildest dreams an Australia like it is today.  But we will get through this together.

Sorry your son has been laid off.  He will be OK now that his girlfriend has arrived from the UK.

Stay well and happy and safe,

Serenity Prayer

Hi Folks

My Wife (VIP'er) was in Aldi  in Scorsby yesterday .. two men using bad language and fighting were removed from the store , they were arguing about spacing in the queue

The store was well stocked and operating in a family friendly mode , there was no excuse at all for the two men.

John

Good job!  I am lucky I've never seen any check out operator abused ever.  Quite the contrary, everyone, staff and customers, are all so friendly.  During this crises, people seem to have been even nicer, kinder.  I went shopping three times the week I decided to self isolate. A few staff were extra busy trying to restock semi empty shelves, yet still helpful.  I think I must be lucky being a Queenslander.  Our laid back attitude helps us not sweat the small stuff.

Hi  Folks

At the moment here in outer eastern Melbourne there appears no reason to panic , the food supply chain is working and the power is on  most folks I think would be fine shopping once a week . In general people seem to be well behaved and there are no "Gangs" roaming the streets.

I dont know about after dark , it might be a good idea to impose a dusk to dawn curfew , our biggest threat is the breakdown of law and order, looting and the suchlike , once we allow this to happen we are in severe strife ...

John

I was surprised when my daughter was worried about the possible  breakdown of law and order in the future.  This is why I am finalising a group street email.  Hopefully it will only be used to keep in touch as more self isolate.

Both Pete and I are both fine in Ballarat. Both still working. Me from home. I stopped commuting to Melbourne on Monday and everyone in our office is WFH now. Pete he still goes to work as he is in manufacturing but only lives 8 minutes away.

Supermarkets here still have shelves stripped. Still no toilet paper, tissues, now they moved on to pasta, beans, flour, rice, meth spirits (grrr cause I need that to paint with oils - went to 8 stores yesterday looking for it). butter, orange juice and the list goes on. Thankfully there was fresh fruit and vegetables and meat and chicken. So I stocked up with fresh food so we eat that for awhile. I did see people coming out of supermarket clutching toilet roll packs like they were gold, but time I checked all gone. I think people hang around for the delivery. I'm too busy for that.

I'm finding I'm working longer hours working from home. So looking forward to the weekend to have a big sleep. I did notice that Telstra was struggling yesterday, internet connection was sluggish.

My Brother and Mother are locked down in NZ. My mum seemed very chipper when I telephoned her yesterday. She relies on my brother to get her groceries. Though she tells me she had made up 30 meals. Said she couldn't get any bread so my brother is trying to get some for her.

He is fine. He working from home.

Ou very much have my sympathy John, I hate Lyrica and Palexia does nothing for me, I can’t have morphine and hospitals are using pethadien anymore. When the ambulance comes they pump fentanyl up my nose which does help but as you say then it is off to hospital for a few hours in the most uncomfortable beds, known to man.

jus saw a new NeuroSurgeon, who went through my lumbar MRI and said “Surgery is the usual answer to this issue, nowI am not saying I would refuse to operate but with the state of your vertebrae it would be less than 50% chance of success and over 20% of catastrophic failure, so I would strongly advise against it”.

I then explained the stroke like symptoms I suffer.

He said hang on a sec, and pulled up some other reports and said “Has anyone ever spoken about your Syrinx” I said “what?” “You have a Syrinx it could explain all your symptoms” s off on Sunday for more MRIs.

As for how things are going, Kenny Rogers (R.I.P.) summed it up perfectly “His big heart was breaking” they have totally stuffed my baby’s wedding and seeing her cry kills me, you are only allowed five people at a wedding including the bride groom and celebrant, so both sets of parents and his kids can’t all be there, but 10 (with an exemption granted to some) at a funeral and 10nat boot camp where they are puffing and panting all over each other and sharing equipment.

meanwhile it is somehow safe for Mrs Gut to trot off each day and come into contact with hundreds of grotty little brats,

then my dear daughter in law had won a scholarship to UK to visit the palaces and castles and see how they archive stuff, she is an archivist they not only cancelled that, but are only refunding about 60% of the cost.

if this beer bug was a human I’d be giving it a good beating.

I second your hate for Lyrica. Eased the nerve pain quite a bit, but sure messed me up. As with lots of drugs used with pain, this is a lower dose off-label use of a med designed for something else. Lyrica being an anti-convulsant used for epilepsy and such. Brain chemistry stuff.

Mr Gut, you do have some interesting things going on.  Never heard of a syrinx before so read a little about it. Interesting. The things you learn on the internet.  Hopefully this can be dealt with quickly and some of the issues you have can be resolved.

I hadn’t either Docker. But it is in MRIs going back years as a distension in the central canal and no one ever mentioned it and if I hadn’t raised the TIA like symptoms he may have overlooked it to, the theory is that when I sneeze the fluid in the Syrinx bounces back up to the brain, the new MRI is to ensure it hasn’t changed or grown and if not again he really doesn’t want to operate. So I guess I just have to wait and see. But knowing is a positive in my mind, and when I read up on it and Syringomyelia (caused by a Syrinx) my symptoms are pretty much text book.

On a positive note my last camera was a gift from Mrs and Miss Gut for our son’s wedding 10 years ago, so they decided that I deserve a new one for Miss Gut;s wedding, even if I don’t get to use it for such, now they knocked me back on the ‘Blad that was on special for tad over $8k and $4k for the lens, which I thought was a bit nasty, but waiting impatiently for my Canon RP to arrive.

Went to our large Coles in Westfield yesterday.  Now only one entry and one exit.  Staggered queue to enter and hand sanitizer squirted into our hands when we were allowed to enter.  All very civilised.  Still no TP or tissues though.

My young adult daughter has a work colleague in her 50s who lives to work.  Has no outside hobbies, lives by herself in a unit with all family overseas.  Since they shutdown, my daughter and her work friends have organised a roster for one of them to ring her everyday to check in on her.  The company had their first online meeting yesterday and my daughter rang the colleague beforehand to take her step by step through the process of setting up her laptop to participate in the meeting.

Yesterday morning when I shopped at Woolies in seniors hour, there was hardly anyone there. It was nice to go up the aisles and not have to move out of the way of someone coming the other way. All very civilised. Still no TP,  tissues, flour of any kind, pasta, orange juice but plenty of potatoes and other veggies and fruit.

You are on Day 7, we are on Day 13. I don't think about it like that and had to count up from my diary.

I am looking forward to tomorrow when my daughter is going to visit.😁🙂 👍I will set up chairs outdoors at a suitable distance from each other. She has her family in isolation, but she needs to pick up some school materials for her eldest who is grade 1.

Did you have a lovely visit with your daughter outdoors?  I set up chairs outside to chat on the phone with a friend.

Surely these days it can only be a round NSW drive ???

I also had just an online order of 'medicine' delivered. I put on some latex gloves and wiped every bottle down with disinfectant wipes - better to be sure ...

Thanks for a laugh.  Further evidence that I'm not a good housekeeper. I would never have dreamt to put on latex gloves and wipe bottles of medicine down with disinfectant wipes.  I did notice my daughter had latex gloves in with the groceries though.

Thank you for asking. I feel my daughter is going over the top with her precautions, but her husband's immune system isn't good.

My daughter didn't come inside. We chatted and I saw my grand-daughters from a few metres' away. The eldest (just turned six) hugged herself and said she was "hugging Grandma". She and my daughter were able to get their birthday presents.🙂 My daughter's was a 1 litre bottle of Hendrick's gin - her favourite.

6 year old "hugging Grandma" would have broken my heart.  My friend's 3 small grandchildren are coming to visit outside in the courtyard with grand parents inside behind glass.  1 litre bottle of Gin would have been a welcome present.  I love Pimms (? gin core ingredient).  I think it is important to maintain contact with our loved ones and friends.

Day 8 -

Cooking - Back cooking again.  Made Mushroom Soup.  Discovered the stick blender was broken (?who put a broken stick blender back in the cupboard remains a mystery).  So chunky mushroom soup!

Shopping - Whilst I'm not a shopper, after a week of self isolation, even this non shopper felt like some on-line shopping. Smitten.merino.com makes beautiful merino wool clothing in Tasmania.  A present there is a 30% discount on their clothing, which is comfortable and perfect for travelling.  (We can still dream about travelling, can't we?) Even my girlfriend from NY bought their clothes on line.

Books and magazines -  I have a laundry basket full from the library, so I won't be running out. Haven't perused them yet, but my daughter made an interesting selection in the allocated 15 mins.

Book Recommendation - "Weevels in the Flour: an oral record of 1920s depression in Australia".  This book was a real eye opener for me.  I couldn't believe people could be treated that way!  I hope we do it better in 2020!

Take away - supporting local cafe which only does take aways now - Fried Rice and Banana Fritters - yum.

A better day today!

Interesting things, my GP sent me for a CT, he rang me with the results “ It sure is a complicated mess”.

Hmmm I made mushroom soup from mushrooms I got from a local park it was nice but the after dinner show of 100 purple elephants dancing swan lake whilst singing meatloafs bat out of hell and the accompanying light show was even better.
