Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

I use 10-10-10  All-Purpose granular fertilizer But ONLY put it on Once when the tomato plant is about 1 ft. tall.

I find when putting fertilizer on again later the plant will get stringy , with a lot of leaf growth later but fruit will be smaller.

Also put the same fertilizer on my 2 peach trees and 1 apple tree. Fertilize the trees around in a circle as far out away from the trunks as the branches extend.  That is put on early in the spring when flowers are still on the trees.

Corn I will fertilize just one time also, when the stalks are about 1 1/2 ft tall. I also will keep pulling off the suckers, so each corn plant will have only one stalk.....each stalk willbear either 3 or 4 ears of corn. I have two 40 ft rows.

I like to use bone meal when I plant the tomatoes.  It seems to help with blossom end rot.  When tilling up the beds in early spring my husband will add some composted cow.  That is about all the fertilizer I use in the garden.  Right now I need to figure out how to use all the squash that is about ready.

There are 2 general types of garlic, hardneck and softneck. You can tell the difference when opening a bulb.  The hardneck has a hard straw like stick in the middle of the cloves.  When hardneck is in its last stage of maturity,  a scape grows out of the middle of it.  If left the tip developes a flower.  If you pull the scapes  early, before flowering, the energy will concentrate on enlarging the bulb instead of the flower.

The scape can be used similar to green onions.  Instead of a mild onion taste you have a mild garlic taste. This year I am going to try making some pesto with them using the scapes in place of basil.

Look towards the middle of the pic and you can see the curly scape.

I have never planted a vegetable...no green thumbs or patience 😁, but every few times I see a couple of garlic bulbs sprout some green stalks. I take them out and they smell and taste delicious. Do not know how they got there in the first place!

My supervisor at a job I held here in TX was a gun totin' grandma.  The 23 year old co-worker l  often had lunch with had a gun.  When I asked why, they both said because it made them feel safe.

Like Candace Bergen in the movie "Ms Congeniality" said, "this is Texas, everyone has a gun.  My florist has a gun:"

I don't have a gun.

I had jury duty a couple years ago and needed to go thru the metal detector, the woman in front of me didn’t have a gun in her purse but had bullets .

This thread needs a new title.  Is anyone on these boards in lockdown?

The title is just fine. It shows history of where we have been and where we are going.

Totally agree OB!

I use a fertilizer called trifecta plus.  I use it once when I plant them and one more time when they start blossoming.  What do you use?.

I use a fish emulsion as fertilizer plus I add homemade compost to the garden every fall and spring and mix with some bags of peat humus.

In the past I have used bio tone starter and that works good too.

It is a friendly neighborhood and I am glad that all are welcome.

This is a nice description of the thread and it’s how we should greet new posters “Welcome to the neighborhood”!
If only we could meet in the mornings for coffee or an evening cocktail.  But I’ll gladly take our virtual meetings.

I vote for cocktails over coffee....unless the coffee is going into an espresso martini.😇

We could do a zoom meeting with cocktails? That could be fun.

LOL, as would most I imagine.  Wouldn’t it be great? @Sunshine3601could make up a big batch of her Mojitos; I think @DaniDanielle would be on Cosmos; @Sea Dogcould whip up his famous Old Fashioned’s or his new Espresso martini’s and not to forget @John&LaLa with their Limoncello.  We’d all be “ship faced”😉!

My daughter’s school had a large police presence this morning, after the events from yesterday.

Meanwhile, we are waiting in Cleveland for our delayed flight.  A few pics from the airport.  They heavily market the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I received a phone call from a very good friend that her Father passed away (he has been in hospice program).     Funeral will be Saturday morning.    I had no idea but her Father was much older than her Mother - he lived and enjoyed life for 97 years!

I am so sorry to hear this, Debbie. 💔

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is amazing. We went to Cleveland to see it, the Christmas Story house, and a baseball game. Turns out we arrived during the filming of The Avengers which was an unexpected adventure. Sadly, the Christmas Story was closed and we could only look through the windows. The baseball park is gorgeous. But the R&R HOF was the highlight of the visit. We want to go back.

A new series of Below deck tomorrow on UK TV.

It is in the Caribbean.

Hi Graham:

Are you familiar with the song Looking For An Echo released on Mushroom Records in 1976 by Kenny Vance and later on A&E ? The song is about a school that I went to with Kenny Vance.Somebody told me today that it was a big hit in the UK.

My son walking back from work snapped this pic of The Mall, getting it ready for the jubilee celebrations next week

It is so exciting!

I am glad Queen Elizabeth has been feeling strong enough for some outings.
I hope she gets immense pleasure from all of the celebration of her Platinum Jubilee. She certainly deserves it.

I tried to post earlier today and something went wrong.

As usual, this thread moves quickly in that different topics are posted by so many people.

As to changing the title of the thread, I do not see a reason to change. It seems that the suggestion to change the title came from some posters who do not contribute often to the conversation here. Now, I admit that I am not a frequent poster, but I have been following this thread from the beginning and have become familiar with so many here. Whenever I read Dani’s thread, I feel  that I am catching up,with life happenings of neighbors.

As I wrote recently, there have been wonderful things as well as heartbreaking things that people have shared here. So many kind people have cheered the wonderful and have offered support to the heartbreaking. This thread allows people to commiserate, empathize ,uplift and encourage. We need more of this in the world.

Maybe by reading this thread and participating by posting, we could take the feeling of kindness and friendliness evidenced here into our worlds outside of this CC forum and make.our  small worlds better places to be. By doing this, perhaps kindness and friendliness would grow exponentially. This may be unrealistic ,but it is worth a try.

Through this thread, I have “met” people from Israel, Florida,Texas, Colorado, Ohio,Missouri,Arkansas,Rhode Island, Pennsylvania ,New Jersey and from different areas of my home state, New York. Before Dani started this thread, I would not have “known” such people. And the one thing about all of us conversing here is that we share more likenesses than differences. We love our families and friends, we enjoy beautiful photos of nature, we enjoy our children and grandchildren,we enjoy sharing time with loved ones,we enjoy traveling,or at least reading about other’s travels,we enjoy beloved pets,we enjoy life. We do not like sickness, loss of loved ones, storm damage to property or suffering of any kind.

A thread like this makes one realize that people are good and wish good for others.

it was suggested to change the title of the thread since we are no longer in lockdown. But, in a way,I think that we are in lockdown. Situations, such as what happened today in Texas have caused us to be cautious and concerned for our welfare and the welfare of the people we care about in our lives.

Covid has caused us to be cautious and concerned about our health and the health of the people we care about in our lives. For some,it has curtailed travel and getting together with friends and family.

As I see it, the world is not the same world as it was twenty, thirty, forty years ago. People are isolated in their own lives, their  own lockdowns.Without being able to reach out to,others, the world becomes even more difficult.

Thank you to Dani for starting this thread. I hope it continues on CC for a long time.

I apologize if I have written a rambling post. I felt I needed to respond to the idea of changing the title.

I wish all posting here a good night and a pleasant tomorrow.

MJ🙋🏻
