APRIL 6 REFUND THREAD: Have you received your refund?

I seem to be the opposite of how other people received refunds.  I recelved nearly all of the cruise fare, taxes and port fees back on one debit card this morning.  The remainder of the cruise fare was on another debit card with another bank, so it just may be they have it but are slower in processing.  I did not receive the $152 for steakhouse reservations which was on the same card as the credit I received this morning.  All in all, I have nearly all of my very close to $4,000 back so I am very, very relieved and hope the rest of the refunds come through for all of you soon.

However!  After the nightmare I've been through with Carnival on the phone trying to get my refund, the corporate/phone group has 100% lost of the goodwill the cruise staff had built up.  I know my Carnival cruise will be fun, and a consistent product, but I no longer trust Carnival with my money.  I'll cruise with Carnival again at some point, most likely, but only after trying another line.

The same problems are happening with the other cruise lines. Take a look at the other boards and the complaints are very similar to the ones posted here.

I imagine some lines are handling it better than others, I don't read about the other lines issuing billions in bonds that pay 12% - that sounds like they don't think they have enough liquid assets to remain afloat, and then you have to wonder if they're mingling assets while also trying to sell cruises later in the year, knowing if they declare restructure bankruptcy they may be able to use the assets while continuing operations, depending on how the judge would rule.  Maybe the lines are handling it all the same, maybe not, but that's irrelevant to me - other lines didn't have my money for months and try to convince me they issued the refund and it was my credit card issuer's fault.

They issued bonds to increase liquidity and even with that Moody's still list Carnival as moderate risk so talk of bankrupcy at this point is just fear mongering.

May I diplomatically suggest that you check the news then? NCL declared this week a bankruptcy warning if they didn't get their funding which they just about managed to do. So they are in a worse place than Carnival Corporation. Could you tell me a line which doesn't have any issues and which line you're going to use instead then?

It was NCL who had the bankruptcy warning, a different cruise company and one the poster seems to adore since he's going to give money to every other cruise line except Carnival's.

  • I had a Med. cruise booked for April of 2021, I had put an $800.00 (100% refundable) deposit on my credit card.  I cancelled it on March 12th and after many phone calls I was told it went to accounting on March 13th.  I have been checking my credit card online every few days and finally the $800.00 deposit had been credited to me this morning.  It did say it was posted on March 13th on my Credit Card statement this morning, but it was not, it was posted today.  So there is hope, everyone keep checking.  Good Luck!  Maria

Agree with cautery and I'm an example.  I was as loyal as they get, but no more.

We didn't go on our first cruise until 2013, but we've been on 18 in 6 years.  Every cruise on Carnival and when a cruiser would bad-mouth Carnival (e.g., in the casino at table games) I was one of the people who would always defend Carnival.  I would say things like "Why even shop other cruise lines when Carnival is so fun and consistent?"  Carnival has a skill of selecting excellent people and training them right.  The product is so consistent.

Since all of the mainstream lines are doing the same thing, taking up to 90 days to issue refunds, good luck. I, for one, am not going to let this bother me that much that I'll never sail Carnival again. (As I've mentioned in other posts it will change how I pay for my cruises going forward, but that is it).

From what I read, they did get their funding - over $2.2 billion - which will hold them over for 18 months of zero sailings if needed. They might now be in the best position of the cruise lines.

I received another refund this morning to my bank account for a shore excursion - cancel date March 9, cruise date May 25. Still waiting for the cruise fare, but it seems the refunds are picking up steam.

Indeed, they received funding 1 day later and have about a year where they can survive. And yet the original poster was criticizing Carnival for having the audacity for raising funding. One could argue that with Carnival selling a stake to the Saudis that they are in the best position of the cruise lines. I just found it fasincating that someone could criticize carnival for raising money when all cruises line have had to do that and that they will use other cruise lines in future when all cruise lines have processing and refund delays as everyone is in the same boat. Could it be that Carnival isn't deliberately trying to upset people and is doing the best it can?

I noticed my credit card balance was considerably less this morning and when I checked my shore excursions refund (dated March 14) had finally been processed.  We cancelled our Legend Norway cruise for June 19 on March 13.  We had everything transferred over to a new Norway cruise in 2021.  All we have left is a balance left on our cruise, transfers, and some Fun shop purchases which were paid with gift cards.   Wonder when they will arrive?   I agree they must be processing by date of when you cancelled.

Cancelled an excursion and a case of water on March 14, received $5.31 for the water this morning.  Way more excited than I should be for $5.31!

Update:  I received the refund for the excursion cancelled on March 14 (before Carnival cancelled the cruise) today, May 9, on Discover.

I received a refund this morning of $374 on my Carnival MasterCard, it was for a Shore Excursion I cancelled on March 13 for a July 25 cruise. The cruise was a reschedule for an April 4 cruise that was cancelled. Now I have rescheduled again to March 27 but had no problem getting everything transferred so no need for further refunds, whew!

I cancelled the April 4 cruise on March 6 and received all the FCC and refunds to my CC within a few days.

Received my refund yesterday for my Today May 9th Cruise. I cancelled on March 9th. What’s weird was the credit on my credit card statement is dated March 19th but was just applied yesterday. I know for the future just take the future cruise credit. I was told 60 days for refund when I cancelled, so I wasn’t expecting it in a week or 2 knowing the scope of the situation. People need to be realistic in their requests.

Good to hear! I was booked on that one as well (just got my shore excursions refunded the other day), so hoping to get my cruise fare refunded shortly.

The Critical Cruiser, I believe you are right in your statement.  Our cruise was cancelled a couple days before cruising the 15th of March.  When I talked with my PVP for the 2nd time in April, we were going over the 4 staterooms that were booked, and what should be refunded back to my credit card, since I paid for all 4 of them.  Hopefully by July I will see some or all of it come on my credit card.
