She is the host for carnival posts.

Try this:  https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/5259/

Thanks. So the info is coming directly from "a Carnival spokesperson." Personally, I think they are insane if they think they'll have ships sail in May... and they might further damage the industry if they try. But that's my opinion... some idiot posting on the internet. Who hopes they are right and I am wrong.

People been noticing they cant book may and assumed may would get cancelled, not that carnival was doing limited capacity sailings. Well rcl usually follows within 24 hours, I guess we wait.

But host Carolyn probably wouldnt post that if she hadnt talked directly to carnival. She isnt a idiot. She posted the news and started the thread.

Being a "host" doesn't give you a direct line to the cruise company.

It gives you the "power" to moderate the posts on this website.

I can assure you that Bob did not have a direct line to Royal Caribbean.

Ok so if this is true and Carnival wants to sail in May with limited capacity, and say that's 70%. They already have 2,000 pax booked ( hypothetical), so sail with 1,400 pax.

What do they do with the other 600 pax? And how would they determine who sails and who doesn't?

I know the cruiselines need to sail ASAP however that's just creating another situation.

Then you have that 1 or 2 people that have/get the virus onboard. The firestorm would be outrageous.

The link that you shared is written by a Cruisecritic contributor. It looks to me like it is describing Carnival's plan to control ship capacity when sailings resume. They are "looking to resume service in May or June". It doesn't actually say that they are. It will take a lot more pieces to fall into place before Carnival can actually resume sailings.

Beats me, maybe posted as a april fools joke. I agree, they dont even have everyone off the ships yet so seems early to me. I just reposted the link to cruisecritic news.

Don’t blame Host Carolyn. The plan did come from Carnival. Carnival needs a reality check. Maybe they are intending to reassure investors. Or get people to put down deposits and later issue FCCs No way the homeports they list in their plan are going to allow cruise ships in May.

Private islands?

Private  islands still fall under some gov.  Coco Cay is part of the Bahamas.  Labadee is on Haiti.  For CCL,  Half Moon Cay is also in the Bahamas.  Whether they are leased or owned doesn't matter.  They still fall under governments for laws, regulations, etc.  So, just because they are "private" islands doesn't mean they are exempt from oversight.

Actually, capacity control is not all that difficult under current conditions when the lines re-start sailings. A lot of people have cancelled their cruises (we've cancelled 5 so far through July), and if the lines close their re-start sailings to any new bookings then the capacity on the ships will be whomever had already booked prior to the halt and didn't cancel.

I just can't see a pathway for May and June sailings...much as I would like them to resume.  Just too many unknown factors.  In terms of who sails and who doesn't in the event of reduced capacity, well they won't have to worry about that.  Many, if not most people will not go, even if the ship sails on. JMO.

I've have fingers crossed for my late July sailing but am prepared to be disappointed.

It was comped via the casino (first time ever) which I don't know if it makes the sting better or worse.

This was my thoughts when I first read the original post.  Plus I don't think there will be a mad rush of people wanting to book last minute cruises.

My best guess is that it will be mid-fall (October-ish?) before cruising returns to anything resembling "normal". Between now and then there will probably be a smattering of ships sailing to a paucity of ports with a very low number of passengers on board. Each ship has a break-even passenger load (or "opportunity cost") number that it needs to hit in order to weigh anchor, and ships that don't currently have or don't meet those numbers in the next two weeks will disappear from the schedule.

We have one cruise booked for May that I expect will be cancelled (if they don't we will), and one booked for early October that is still outside of final payment date so we're not making any payments on that one until we see what happens between now and the end of June when payment is due.

I see host Carolyn posted Carnival plans on resuming cruises in May with limited capacity and see how they go.

Do you all think Royal gearing up to do the same?

This is a terrible idea.  No cruises until there is a vaccine.  There will still be 100s of thousands of positive COVID people walking around the world/USA in May.   But hey, lets go on a cruise in a few weeks!

Especially if you are under 70.  No problem at all.  What a joke.
