Anyone else not booking or rebooking now?

Sometimes I feel that I'm the only one who will not book another cruise until I see the NCL ships actually sailing again.  When my April 2020 cruise was cancelled I was so tempted to take the extra 25% FCC plus 20% discount but I made the decision to get a refund which took 85 days.  Then my September 2020 Carnival cruise was cancelled.  I only had a $500 deposit but was given the option for a refund or FCC plus $600 OBC.  I have until December 31st to decide.  Last month I cancelled another NCL cruise for January 2021 because I thought final payment was September 5 but a day after I cancelled they changed it to November 5.  On the two NCL cruises I had used a cruise next which expires March, 2021.  I think I can get a one year extension if I book something now but if the cruise gets cancelled or I change my mind I will lose it. 

 

I've been following prices of several cruises in 2021 for the last six months and they have slowly been rising.    And the prices for the same cruises in 2022 are hundreds of dollars more.

 

I really don't want to commit myself to any cruise now with the restrictions they are going to impose like wearing masks and only taking ship excursions.  Am I alone in feeling this way?  I, too, want to cruise again as badly as everyone else.

I book to take advantage of prices....knowing I'll probably cancel.

Right now it looks like there's gonna be a second wave.....so I have even more incentive to cancel.

Why cruise if it's a restricted cruise?  I've already decided (DH actually agrees) to take the "money I would have spent per day" and blow it at the local casino (assuming it's open), then end the day with a nice dinner (again...the assumption that restaurants are open).

We have had an April 2021 cruise booked on the Encore for almost two years now. We got an excellent deal on it. We lost our 2020 Alaska cruise. However,  we are apprehensive....... We will NOT make final payment in December as they are currently expecting. 120 days advance payment with nothing to base cruising on is a ridiculous expectation...... We have no idea what will happen on board if there is a Covid case and if the ship or us will be stuck in quarantine in some form at the end of the cruise. Masks, testing, etc ...... Too many unknowns at this time to drop that much coin on. I hope NCL is listening because they better adjust final payment date for 2021 like they did for the final couple months of possible 2020 cruises in Nov/Dec.

last march, ncl cancelled our cruise from santiago chile. i rebooked a dec 2020 cruise from rome, but   under the current conditions, we cancelled. i then booked a 10 day cruise from athens next march. ncl just cancelled that one also so i rebooked almost the same cruise for april (ncl spirit, april8-18th) hopefully that wont cancell. we're also booked on the jade from amsterdam next july.

 

although at this time i have very little faith in ncl, i am keeping my fingers crosses/ due to unforeseen (and foreseen) circumstances, we have been unable to cruise since july 2018. so i'm hoping

I am with you !  Cancelled my Nov 30th cruise.  Will not book again till  I truly feel comfortable doing so, with restrictions I can live with (not what I see proposed now) and prices are better.  I am truly disappointed not to be cruising, but there is no way I will.. as things stand now.

As to pricing.....I don't know if they'll ever return to "the way things were".  There is too much "lost revenue" to make up.  Or, maybe the base price could come back down, but with more add-ons.  This is especially true if you factor in "limited capacity".

I, too, got a refund on the Bliss Panama Canal cruise; I've since rebooked (an inside cabin) on Encore for April 2021 (Miami-LA).  The price was pretty reasonable, and I really want to see the canal!  For me, this is a "destination + ship" cruise -- a place I really want to see, and a cruise line / ship that I have not yet experienced.  As far as the mask/shore excursion restrictions, I'm not personally bothered by it.  I will do what I can to protect my fellow passengers, and myself, against COVID-19 and any other ailments; if that means I'm restricted to NCL shore excursions, that's ok.  I really want to see the Panama Canal; the opportunity to explore the ports is a bonus.

I just cancelled my December 2020 cruise.  I have no faith that it will actually sail and, aside from that, there are too many restrictions in place to make this a fun cruise.  I still have a March 2021 cruise booked.  If the restrictions are still in place when final payment is due, that one will be cancelled too.  I am not inclined to book any further cruises at this point.

I had a cruise cancelled for 1st Nov and I have a TA booked for Dec which I'm pretty sure will be cancelled, in the unlikely event that it goes ahead and we're allowed to enter US we will go. 

 

In the meantime on the assumption that it will be cancelled I have booked Dec 2021, April 2022 and Oct 2022 (I already had a booking for Sept 2021). I hope it will all be over by then and if not back to normal at least normalish

 

I am happy to cruise whatever the restrictions. I work from home and only leave the house once a week to go shopping so I will put up with pretty much anything to get a holiday 🙂

Will be canceling our 9 day April cruise on the Breakaway right before the final payment comes due in December. Booked it with 2 cruise next certificates so there is no money to have refunded. We are no doubt out $250 because the certificates will probably expire before we ever cruise again.

I’m not booking until prices become reasonable.  I’ve done some mock bookings the last few weeks with Norwegian and Celebrity.  Prices I am seeing are what I would expect for the premium lines.  If I am going to pay premium prices, I’ll got on a premium line instead (Oceana probably).  More likely, I likely I will do resort travel once travel is safer and hold off on any cruises until prices normalize again.

I canceled two cruises before NCL did.  One New England to Canada for Sept 2020, another Australia/New Zealand for Feb 2021 and promptly received our deposit refunded to our credit card.  I felt we would be locked down at least that long.  Given the progress on therapies for Covid and vaccine possibilities, we are now booked on a Boston to Quebec cruise for Sept 2021, Rome to Athens April 2022,  Iceland/Greenland July 2022, Alaska Cruisetour Sept 2022, and Panama Canal Jan 2023.  I booked them all under the 15% discount and felt we got good pricing on all of them but no mega ship ones.  The mega ship pricing seems to be higher to us.  Will we do all these cruises?  Am I being too optimistic?  Who knows but I’m hopeful we will have the vaccine by year’s end and that should help cruising resume.  We are particular about our cabin choice and like booking early.  Plus, we REALLY need a vacation here!  Right now no where to go, no way to get there.  😳🤭

Just booked a Mediterranean for July of 2022. However I did hedge my bets, only using CN certificates. If the prices go up I win if they drop I’ll rebook for the lower price. If everything goes to hades then I’ll cancel and still have my certificates. I really hope by 2022 things return to somewhat normal. Let’s all hope at least.

I originally had a May cruise this year booked that I reserved 18-20 months before hand on the Encore. There was no advantage to this- I probably based on my Escape 2018 cruises could have waited until last minute.

I'm not encouraged after 6-7 months and think we have made really no progress. It's the logistics as well, I would need to be able to stay overnight in NYC etc.. and get  there safely.

The future concern could be having to fly to a port only to be denied entry etc.. things like that - 

If i need to wait until 2024 or so then I'll do that.

Plus, the particular sailing I had- Encore from NYC to Bermuda is not being offerred- they are sending the Encore to Alaska so they can make more $$ anyway

I’ve got 2 Mediterranean cruises booked B2B for October 2021.   But I only booked them since I had already purchased the 2 CruiseNext certificates on my January cruise.  I’m only about 30% confident cruising will be normal enough by then for me to consider going.  In June, when it is time for final payments, I’ll make a go or no-go decision.  I won’t sink more money into it unless things are a LOT better by then.  My CN Certs are good for quite a while, so I’m happy to put them back in the bank for awhile if that makes the most sense.

Precisely why one may want to lock in the price now with refundable deposit. I would not book NRD or sail dates prior to September 2021.

I am rebooked for January 9th but my FCC expires in March. I was in the first round of Covid cancellations. My cash is now an FCC with an expiration date.

I had my November Epic TA cancelled so  yesterday, I booked 2 more cruises  for next year in October and December. I wanted to take advantage of the Free at Sea offers and I used the FCC that I had applied on the Epic and Cruise Next Certificates.

Our April cruise was cancelled.  We moved our CruiseNext certificates from our October cruise before it was cancelled.   Then we moved our deposits from our January 2021 cruise to another further out. 

 

Currently have four pending cruises held with CruiseNext certificates.     Just watching & hoping for a good vaccine before we have to make a decision about our March 2021 cruise.
