If they need to aid crew to get it. As in they procure it on their behalf it will be a very long time before cruising restarts. I will concede to the arguments made on here that the batches for 2021 are on order for countries only. But I will also ask a question to rebut that argument.

If the cruise lines have no clout in getting vaccines?. Then why are Ford motors laying in 12 ultra cold freezers for the storage of vaccine? Unless it is for the on site vaccination of their operation? And if Ford can get access to the vaccine surely others can?

If you can throw out ideas, why not this one.

How about... the cruise Industry will buy the Chinese version. Money in hand will see all crew can be vaccinated. Especially when the cruise lines prepare to sail. Who knows, maybe all crew will filter through China on the way to their appropriate ship, with quarantines, vaccinations and housing there before they fly on. Voila, fully vaccinated crew.

That is, if they aren’t already vaccinated in their home country.

And yet they just announced a national lockdown this morning.

Nothing wrong with that, I applaud the conviction to wait it out. Antibodies are slow to develop.

Will pay off in the long run

Late last year ford order these freezers. Why would they do that unless they felt confident of securing supply? Supply to a business corporation which if possible for one is surely possible for others?

Isreal banging it out

Israel is at 10% of its population I believe.  The opposite is France....up to 500 vaccinations.   (Not 500k....just 500 period....like 0.00000? of their population).

But it let’s be honest, I think US wanted 20 million vaccinated by the end of 2020, and hit about 15% of that goal.

So why can’t nurses at nursing home inject the vaccinations?  CVS and Walgreens don’t have a staff of traveling nurses, so the hire subs to take vaccines to nursing homes to do the injections.   Is this just Ohio or all over?  Nurses in the nursing home regularly do injections, just not the Covid vaccine.

An interesting reply to your post for you. If they don't need full contingent of staff perhaps they hire the housekeeping, bar wait, laundry staff from the U.S instead? And put them on a short term contract till vaccines can bring the old staff back which could be many months away. That might be expensive though and not well received once people discover American staff will be sacked and replaced with cheap foreign labour.

I have the answer..........!!!!

If they can’t bring in old staff, then each passenger is assigned a couple of shifts duty to cover during their cruise...

I officially claim to be casino staff on the first port day.  Dibs.

It's called planning for a situation that may or may not materialize. But thanks

Well they must not be looking hard enough then. I thought the american unemployment was highest it has been in a long time. With a lot of new people becoming homeless or at least a facing state where they will be homeless once the eviction block ends because they owe so much money and the benefit check has not been approved has it?. And I also thought most of the hospitality industry has been wiped out at least in places like New York, LA etc and may not come back for a long time.

Yes unemployment is high here in the US but some of those on unemployment are not desperate enough to work.  For many months I have seen help wanted signs at many food stores and retail shops.

Some stores and some restaurants have gone out of business but most of them were hanging on by a thread pre-covid.

I think we are going to see a big change in commercial real estate as alot of businesses are discovering staff can successfully work from home and wont need to pay large overhead for large office builders.

As far as crew, remember all cruiselines have the capability to load crew in other countries.  They can easily cruise over to Phillipines, Thailand, etc etc. And pick up crew and have them all get tested and quarantine on board before entering US waters/ports.

Well with the ban on evictions you can't really throw people out but people owe a lot of money now don't they. I remember at the very start of the pandemic. The old lady in either Houston or Dallas I think it was. She was like mid 80s and her landlord was throwing her out onto the street for not paying rent. He had a couple of removal men to get her stuff out of the house and the removal men were crying. We saw that on BBC news.

How is the UK handling people that are jobless and unable to pay their housing bills?

I'd like to know how they protect the landlords who can't pay their bills because the tennants can't pay the rent.

Yes, I have wondered that too.   Private landlords are probably doing mortgage deferral/forbearance plans and larger investment companies probably got some of the ppe loans for small businesses.

Not really on topic, but actually the UK have done quite a lot for landlords and renters 😊 with things in place such as furlough and universal credit there aren't massive numbers who can't afford rent. Then they have given funding to local councils to help, put mortgage holidays in place...

We have extended the so called furlough scheme into April 2021. And people who are unemployed get assistance with housing benefits and are on universal credit formerly known as jobseekers allowance and unlike USA your unemployment does not stop after 99 weeks like the song money's too tight to mention cant get an unemployment extension. There are people who have been unemployment for 25 years that I know and people who go so far as to have children to get government housing and benefits. But without those benefits those people would simply be homeless as they don't want to work.

Doesn’t this blow your theory that the cruise lines should hire the homeless?  Hire them to occupy a cabin, eat food, and not work. Maybe the cruise lines should pay for their drink package and excursions, and while they are at it, give them credit to play in the Casino. SMH

Perhaps they should hire brits and Americans to work on the ships, pay them minimum wage and up their prices as opposed to hiring the people they hire an paying them 2 dollar an hours plus a cut of the service charges. I don't know how it works in America but if you are unemployed and turn down a job without a very good cause   in UK your money gets stopped I think for 3 years.

You completely missed the point. You said they don’t want to work (homeless).

People complain now about increased rates.

How much tipping do you do in the UK?  More Global World Order?  Is this your back door way to stop tipping onboard?

Perhaps you should appoint yourself CEO of RCG.

But our government keeps them. Not in luxury but it keeps them. Or unemployment does not stop after 99 or 101 weeks like yours does. I think you get £78 per week plus you get housing benefit paid to the landlord. Your state pension contribution is paid.

Not that much to be fair they get paid minimum wage at least or more if employer choses. It is not like America were you tip 1 dollar a drink or 20% on the meal bill. And I tip only a few in CASH though I don't take the charge off unless the service has been poor or I have been misdiagnosed with norovirus and locked in the cabin like on the NCL Pearl. And I tell them to put that cash in their pocket. I don't think they do. I don't think they are allowed to carry cash on them?

I have been on indy once should be going on Anthem Nov 21 not gonna happen I don't think. The connecting/return cunard sailing won't go i don't think and we can't swim to bayonne 🤣. Even if Cunard does go we would never get a negative test onboard as you will likely need. I am more of a Cunard/NCL guy to be fair.

They do their job search every day and show it to the job centre when they sign on every 2 weeks or whenever they want them in. I don't think they even check it.  But they are on your back to be fair so I have heard.

So we won't be sharing a drink in the Diamond Lounge any time soon?
