A quiet day here in Western Washington.  We got our first major snow; about 8 inches so far and still coming down.  I had an eye appointment yesterday, luckily as it just started coming down.  Concerning the Riesling wine of today.  Ste Michelle (or Chateau Ste Michelle) is Washington State's largest and oldest winery.  They make a few different Rieslings.  We enjoy the one sold in our local Costco at just under $6.00.  They also make a sweeter version and a dry Riesling.  They have a partnership with Eroica to produce the wine described today.  It is about $10. more than their regular Rieslings.  I haven't tried it,  but will if I see it on the shelf.  Concerning books:  I have a friend I have known for about 60 years (We were stationed together in Taiwan 61-63) who is starting to have some dementia symptoms.  He recommended I get the book Being Mortal by Atul Gawande.  It has information and ideas on what we should do as we or our loved ones reach the age where it becomes difficult to care for ourselves.  Choices we need to make about living at home, assisted living, nursing homes, the danger of falling, and other things we usually avoid thinking about.  I bought my copy as a used book on Amazon for about $6 and highly recommend it.  Names:  I was named Ray by my mother who was Rachel.  Surprising how many people think my is Raymond and Ray for short.

Starting light snow here.... a bit earlier than forecast which may mean a fast moving storm and less accumulation. We will see. I did turn my car around so it will be easier to clear off. This is Colorado.... wish I had a garage!!!

Will look up the book Being Mortal. Sound like an interesting read. Thanks for the info.

😊 Good Morning Saturday and Thank You for the Daily! 🙂

We haven't been to a movie theater in ages🎫 ---just enjoying Netflix, etc. and that's fine.🤓

Actually, probably watched the most TV ever during the pandemic and reading books 📚 (listening to audio, too).  I'm really into different genres during the challenging times and using the public library downloads. The Libby App is a good option since our libraries are closed.  I finished The Orphan Collector last week and it's good insight into the Spanish Flu of 1918. 👀

🙏 Prayers to all you are in need. 🙏

Thanks for the book title. Just downloaded it from my library.

This cracked me up, Blue has done this, not so much anymore though. Now he loves the tubes from used paper towel rolls and toilet paper rolls.

Marley loved paper when he was a puppy.  I guess he liked the sounds of it ripping.

Way back when I had my Meet and Greet list on paper with names, CC names and cabin numbers and was busy updating it and left it on the table.

Ran to get the phone and when I got back, it was all in shreds.  Couldn’t read a thing with the dog saliva.  After I went through all my emails, I had to post on the roll call - HELP!  My dog ate my homework - my M & G list.  I need the following people to please resend me info.

A little bit embarrassing to say the least 😉

Now I keep my M & G lists electronically 😄

In the meantime, he can't put any weight on the ankle for fear it will fracture. We're hoping the surgery can be scheduled soon, so he can walk again!

Oh dear 😔 I do hope they can schedule his surgery soon 🤞 🙏🏻

😃If you like a mystery in the Agatha Christie style, I recommend The Guest List by Lucy Foley. It's set off an island near Ireland and keeps you guessing.  Currently, I'm reading The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah for my book club. 📚

Good Morning from snowy Vancouver Island.

I was up before 8 a.m. and out shoveling snow.  I wanted to make sure I got the public sidewalk in front of our house cleared before the snow was trampled down.  My neighbour and estimate that we had over 6 inches of snow overnight.  It is still snowing and does not look like it is going to give up.

Enjoy your Saturday.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily and welcome back Roy!

It is always sad to hear of ones being lost to this virus. Best wishes to those undergoing and facing surgery. And our congratulations to @DeeniEncinitas on an awesome milestone!

We are in the single digits and under a wind chill warning. Not looking forward to it getting colder the next couple of days.

In an attempt to distract from the cold outside, the sun was setting as we sailed from Costa Rica last year. It was much warmer 🙂

Stay safe and healthy and know that sunnier days are coming.

Top of the morning Rich. Thanks for the Daily and helping Roy for a few days.

Dear Roy, it was so sweet to see your post today. I know you are in good shape with walking and watching your diet. Allen had a new heart valve and aneurism repaired a few years ago and he's doing so much better. We are out of isolation so please remove me from the care list. Thank you.

A sad few days. Our friends and her 100 year old mom got Covid early this week. Her mom passed away Thursday. Our friend Gary went by ambulance to hospital Thursday evening and is not expected to survive.

Our ice storm has wreaked havoc on our new trees and shrubs. Expect zero temps which is especially unusual for Central Texas. Crazy!

Prayers and Cheers,

Joy

I’m so sorry to hear about your friend and your friend’s mom. This is such an awful disease..

If circumstances had been different I would have posted this yesterday but on February 12 2019 MS Prinsendam made her final call to the Falklands.  I have been lucky to have been successful tendering there 3 out of 3 times.  This time I had a private tour to Bluff Cove, where we had an abundance of penguins.  The first ones I saw were gentoos:

Someone was kind enough to take a picture of me at the site:

Next up were some King Penguins:

As well as a number of penguins with chicks:

While not frigid it was definitely chilly, and the Sea Cabbage Cafe was a welcome place to get a  snack:

While it was primarily a wildlife event there were reminders of the island's past.  I understand the mines have finally been completely removed:

Boot hill is a tribute to the Falkland's nasty bogs:

It was a crowded day in Stanley with both the Fram and Celebrity Eclipse in town.  Fram's guests took zodiacs to a different point but we tendered next to the Eclipse passengers.  While Eclipse was due to leave ahead of us they had long tender lines while our service was immediate and Eclipse still had tenders out as we left.

In honor of the Falklands there was a British themed dinner and our penguins were in the middle of an appropriate display:

Another Saturday without our winter season sailaway gathering.  I don't think a day goes by without a fond memory of being aboard ship.

Roy, my best wishes and prayers for your health concerns.

Looking forward to tonights Florida Orchestra concert featuring Broadway Classics with Debbie Gravitte singing.

I must admit that I missed the last 3 days because I was watching the Impeachment Trial of former President Trump. Very different than either civil or criminal trials. I can't say that the trial changed my pre-concieved opinion in any way. Of course he was acquitted (foregone conclusion since this was basically political) but at least the final vote was bipartisan.

I was named after both of my grandmothers and I was always called by my middle name, Jane,  until first grade; I didn't know my first name before then.   I was never called by my 1st name after that 1st day of school. I detested my first name and still do but I didn't get around to changing it legally until I was in my 40's. Now my first name is Jane with no middle name, just the initial M.

Roy, take care and may your surgeon have a blest day. I refuse to say good luck when any surgery is involved.

Continuing February 12th, from our Westerdam cruise, last year, even though we headed to port in Thailand, with a navy vessel escort, we saw them change direction and so did we.  We were no longer welcome to dock inThailand, and waited to hear what’s next!  At last we heard that we would be able to dock in Sihanoukville, Cambodia.  We sailed offshore and waited a while before being able to dock.  We watched as it really happened before the sun set.  After dinner, we found two folded pieces of heavy cloth on the bed with the towel animal.  We received no instructions about disembarkation, yet.

Please, please, please refrain from discussing anything political on our Daily whether pro, con, or indifferent. This is not the place to discuss it. Long timers will stop posting.

Thank you for the Saturday Daily, Rich.  I think International Natural Day could be taken 2 ways.  Here's a salute to movies and Ryndam being renamed Rotterdam.  The quote seems especially relevant today with all the travel restrictions.  The Spaghetti and Meatball Skillet Supper sounds nice.  My alternative is Chilled Pear, Cucumber, and Melon Gazpacho and Parmesan Crusted Chicken Breast as served on MS Maasdam February 13, 2015.

Today's care list:

Caregiver Gsel and her DH battling Alzheimers

myself facing cardiac surgery

My brother having another surgery

Seasick Sailor in Quarantine and friend with Covid pneumonia

superoma recovering from lumpectomy

HAL (and other crews)

and Krazy Kruisers and Joe

Today's Celebrations and Shoutouts:

Rich doing double duty

Mrs Vmax free of cancer

Teachers, school workers and at home surrogates

Front Line Health Care Workers

Me home temporarily

Himself in Florida

Jabs for Cruise Suzy and DH
and Sabine, HAL’s likely first female Captain(I know this is a repeat but she’s worth it)

Roy

Please let me know of anything that needs to be corrected

Roy , my prayers are with you as you face open heart surgery.

When my DBIL was born, he was named Michael Robert.  His father was Robert, but his mother wanted him to have his own identity.  Unfortunately, relatives insisted on calling him Little Bobby.  Since his dad went by Bob, his mom decided to partially give in and started calling him Robbie.  Robbie it was.  From the day he started kindergarten to his senior year of high school, he was Robbie or Rob.   During his senior year he had an interview with one of the school counselors to verify all information for graduation.  When the counselor said his name was Michael Robert, he insisted it was a mistake.  He was Robert or Rob.   The counselor showed him the registration form his mother had filled out when he started kindergarten that said his name was Michael Robert.  His poor mom sure had h*** to pay when he got home that afternoon.  He never had any idea of what his name really was.
