Good morning everyone!  Thank you for the Daily Rich and thank you for your lists Roy. I would love those lamb chops.

I haven’t been to Oslo but all the pictures are beautiful. The opera house is unusual!  I have height issues and get dizzy easily so I would only look at it at a distance.

My arm is slightly sore from my vaccine yesterday and I’m a bit tired but otherwise no side effects.

Have a great day everyone!!

Good morning and thanks all!  LOVE Kalua pork,  it’s not bland at all,  in Hawaii they cook it in the Imu, the underground  oven wrapped in ti leaves!  So Delish!

That's good to know.  I may give this a try sometime.

Good Afternoon from a bright but cool day at the beach.

Dont really care for the dinner selection but I do love lamp chops.  Was scheduled to go to Oslo last year on the N. Statendam but was cancelled. Hopefully another time.

Update on the family. All recovering, except BIL who is still in hospital. My sister cant visit him because she is also positive. But luckily, their daughter who is a nurse at that hospital and tested negative ( she had vaccine) can visit. So he is not alone.

Thank You all for your care and support.

Stay safe

Charlene

Good morning.  What a collections of days to celebrate.  Would love to have some lamb chops as Roy suggested, but will have to wait until I'm on a blue hulled beauty.

Since it is DH's birthday, we are having shrimp creole, rice, salad and sparkling wine.  The birthday cake is cooling before I frost and decorate it.  I am still trying to figure out how I'll decorate it, since pastel flowers don't seem right.

We have been lucky enough to visit Oslo four times, with three of those times being on the Prinsendam in 2011 (North Cape and Murmansk cruise), 2016 and 2017.  The first time there was on the Marco Polo on a North Cape cruise.

Of course, we visited all the major highlights, but the last time, we took the tram out to a part of town that is off the beaten path.  It was interesting to see areas without the tourists (except us) and how the locals lived.  I tried to find some pictures that showed some places other than the main tourist places, but included some well known sites.

The first two are the Radhuset where the Nobel Peace prize is awarded, and the part of hall where the ceremony is held.

This one is a view of the Vigeland park from the top.

The next two are from the Viking Ship Museum and the Fram Museum.  The Fram was the ship that Roald Amundsen sailed to Antarctica on his exploration to the South Pole.  In the same area as these museums are the Kon Tiki Museum and the Norsk Maritimt Museum, which was very interesting.

These next to are for those who like to stroll through food markets and flower markets.  They were set up in a open area in front of the Oslo Cathedral.

We were lucky enough to be able to "crash" a tour of the auditorium in the Opera House, but the pictures are not as good as I'd like because of the lighting.  Of course we also walked on the roof.

I'll leave you with an overview of Oslo, from across the bay at the museum area.  The highlight of the picture is the blue hulled beauty that brought us to this fabulous city.

Good afternoon . I’m a bit late today because I honestly forgot to check in.

My daughter got her first jab yesterday and her husband gets his today. So far, everyone is doing well.

The weather man is reporting more snow for the end of this month. I’ve had enough of this winter and can’t wait till spring.

Stay safe everyone.

We visited Oslo in May, 2019 on the Zuiderdam.

Did a private tour with another couple and saw most of the regular sights.

Unfortunately, as you can see in this picture, it was raining very hard, so we spent most of our time visiting the inside sights – but still enjoyed the seeing what we were able to see.

The  SWFL eagle babies are now 40 days old, and developing their feathers.  The parents spend most of the day feeding them!

Nanaimo bars, si!  Poutine, no!  Never been a fan.  I think tonight we are having enchiladas, too.  I have been ordered to shred chicken for DD to use.

I spent most of the morning outside cleaning up the small flower bed we have beside the driveway and the courtyard..  Finally, planted the primroses, I have been taking them out and then in for days, every time I plan to plant them, Pat says, "we're going below zero (C) tonight," and then I don't do it.  Now they are in the ground for better or for worse.  We are due for rain, but the sun is shining right now.  Spring!

Giggling on the Canadian content,  poutine.,   On our news last night there is a Canadian uproar because the New York Times messed with the recipe for Nanaimo bars.

These are the 2020 of Nanaimo bars': Canadians cannot get over the New York Times version of this Vancouver Island treat

Thanks to Rich, Roy, the drinks and recipe ladies.

My sun is gone and back to rain.  Still not too windy for a walk.

I enjoyed going to L&L Hawaiian Barbecue when we lived in Denver when a couple of my business colleagues would come to town. (L&L is all over the US; I even have one near where we have to go to the doctor later and could pick some up- YEAH!)  Kalua pig has to do with how it is prepared rather than the ingredients. (And yes, the first time I had it I too thought there should have been some Kahlua in the pork.)  Here's a little history.  https://theculturetrip.com/north-america/usa/hawaii/articles/a-brief-history-of-hawaiis-famous-kalua-pork-dish/

Loving all the pics and info on Oslo as our Baltic cruise didn't stop there.

Prayers to all who need them and best wishes to all.

Thank you for sharing the history! I may have to try this recipe!

I am so jealous of your weather in B.C. I so remember the plants blooming while we were still buried in snow here.

We are still buried in snow and ice - it will be while before anything goes out unless Spring comes early.

Good luck with the primroses.

Poutine.  Yuck

A GOOD poutine is delicious (and I’m not a gravy fan) but a bad one is horrific.

I tend to make my own once in a blue moon and we do enjoy it.  When things open up more there is a special spot that has the best poutine and clams where we will head to.

@Quartzsite Cruiser, please wish your DH a very happy birthday from us!

@bennybear every Canadian cook worth their salt knows its a rule of 3;  1/3 base, 1/3 custard filling, 1/3 chocolate.  Oh, the humanity ! ! !

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Gerry

Thanks for clarifying that. This American was about to ask.

(is there custard in the Times pictures?)

I don’t like a heavy gravy - I use a combination of au jus and other stuff and it’s enough to melt the cheese, put some taste in the fries but not be over bearing, but I’m not a gravy fan.

there’s even a poutine gravy mix you can buy here in Canada.

My best ones so far were in Quebec and at home.  They put too heavy a gravy on here where they serve it so I never got it back in the days when we could / would eat out.

Good morning!  What a collection of days to celebrate!  That will keep us all busy.

Every day we can now look forward to our port of the day and the memories it brings back to us.  Today's port of Oslo is a good one.  We saw it twice on the Emerald Princess in 2011 on back to back cruises.  Then twice on Prinsendam in 2016 and 2017.  So much to see there!  On our early visit we walked from the ship to Vigeland Sculpture park.  Everyone should see that.  On one of our visits we walked to the Opera House and walked on the sloping roof.  On another visit we walked to 5 Sophies Gate to find Harry Hole's apartment in the Jo Nesbo books.  Apparently a lot of people do this because on one corner a local saw us and pointed the correct direction to head, without even asking us for sure what we were looking for.  DH is a big fan of the Jo Nesbo books.

You dock next to the Akershus Fortress so it has to be one of the best places to dock in all our cruises.  Here it is:

It's right across the street from your ship.  Amazing!

I had another photo I wanted to share with you but I can't find it.  It's in one of the cruise photo books I make, so it has to be here somewhere.  If I find it I will share later.

Thank you for the photos, very fond memories. I loved Oslo but all my photos are old school so I have to get out my scrapbook to view them. One sad thing to share here. We visited Vigeland Sculpture Park on a HAL tour. There were 2 couples with us that were using walkers and having a difficult time keeping up. Several of us were trying to take photographs and we also had a difficult time keeping up. After about 1 hour one of the guides told us if we didn't keep up we would have to leave the tour. Hubby and I were able to keep up but not able to take any more photos and we certainly were not the only ones. The poor souls that required walkers were escorted out of the park then made to wait another 2 hours until the bus picked them up. HAL had a lot of complaints about that.
