rodndonna Posted April 6, 2021 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2021 (edited) Has anyone noticed a global increase in the HAL pricing? I just checked our 2 HAL cruises and both have gone up - 10 days Sunfarer from Ft Lauderdale (up about $150US per pax) and 7 day Norse Legends in May 2022 (up about $200US per pax). I think I looked just last week and there was no change in price. Maybe they went up with the extension of the "Have it All" promo? Regardless, I take this as a good sign that cruising is getting the demand in booking they need. It's rare that I am happy to see price increases. Rare kazu Posted April 6, 2021 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2021 I can’t check our one cruise since our category, Vista Suites and Lanais are all sold out! Looking at my other, I don’t see a price increase but I will say it was a pretty pricey cruise to begin with IMO. Nearly up there with the P’dam pricing. I suspect that as bookings increase on cruises, HAL has some algorithm that increases the price when certain percentages are hit. Just my best guess.
Rare Mary229 Posted April 6, 2021 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2021 Yes, my watch list cruises are up. I think it will be that way for a couple of years. The only way prices would plateau or decrease is if demand decreases and by all reports that is not what is happening. When the ships finally sail we, the consumers, and the cruise lines will know. I have my one cruise booked and do not plan to book more until the first ship leaves from a US port.

Rare Hlitner Posted April 6, 2021 #9 Share Posted April 6, 2021 Yes, there are price increases for HAL and other cruise lines. Some of us predicted this last year and it has been discussed on CC. The cruise lines gave away Future Cruise Credits like they were candy in order to keep customers from demanding refunds for cancelled cruises. FCCs were routinely given out for 125%, 150% and sometimes even higher percentages. Folks thought they were getting a good deal as the FCC was much more generous then a cash refund. But, as many of us warned, a FCC's value is not what it seems if the cruise lines simply increase all their prices. Give folks 125% FCC and then increase the price by 30% and suddenly that FCC is not what one expected. It is why a few of us suggested almost 1 year ago that given a choice folks might be wise to take the money. So now what we have our 10s of thousands of folks with lots of FCCs. They need to spend those FCCs within a limited amount of time and they have booked or are booking future cruises. All those FCCs have also increased demand which is another factor that drives up prices. I suspect it will be several years (if then) when pricing returns to any degree of normalcy. That is not going to happen until most of the FCCs are used or expired, and supply exceeds demand. For cruisers we have to either "pay the price" or look at other options. We have already booked one nice All Inclusive trip (for later this month) and will consider a few lengthy European driving trips once the continent reopens. As to cruises, other then the 3 we have booked (at good prices) we are not even considering more bookings given the current situation. Traveling on land is much more reliable and options exist. Hank I checked the equivalent HAL cruise next year in April to the Panama Canal cruise I was supposed to be on this month and the 2022 price is 34% higher than I had booked. As Hank and others have stated, in a year or two after the pent up demand and FCCs are all used there are also MANY new ships coming out of the ship yards so the competition amongst cruise lines will probably get prices back down. That's my hope anyway! 🙂 ~Nancy
DaveOKC Posted April 7, 2021 #11 Share Posted April 7, 2021 In the past, it has been my experience with HAL that fares on further out cruises are higher. They seem to gradually decline over time. depending on how the bookings are. We do book further out, to get the cabin we want, but almost always have 1-4 fare rebookings along the way.
KAKcruiser Posted April 7, 2021 #12 Share Posted April 7, 2021 I agree. I've been thinking that much of this price increase discussion is at least partially due to the fact that the cruise is pretty far out.

I have one on my desk for Alaska and Yukon and when I sign in with it other prices elsewhere also go down a bit. One thing I learned in the forum is to try your id then your spouses ID because sometimes they only offer to one of us. Also don't sign in until you get to the sailing itinerary page and you will see "login for a better prices" just below the price Edited April 7, 2021 by Mary229

IPB4IGO Posted April 7, 2021 #20 Share Posted April 7, 2021 The prices of our January 2022 B2B Panama Canal cruises have gone up about 18% since we booked them in February. That's over $1,300 each way for the two of us.

As I mentioned, the increase from 2021 April to 2022 is 34% for the cruise I had booked. ~Nancy

If demand is high, there will be no deal. and if there is too much supply there will be deals. Hard to say how many people are anxious to go no matter what - but it seems like there is some keen interest. Especially for the ports closer to home 😉
Rare FlaMariner Posted April 9, 2021 #24 Share Posted April 9, 2021 I've been tracking the prices of two cruises we have booked and the current fares are way up. 3/22 S.A. 17 night is up 12% (& we booked just last month) 10/21 Rotterdam TA is up 22% I'm hoping this is all the post pandemic demand & FCCs floating around.....
