lindaler Posted May 31, 2021 #54 Share Posted May 31, 2021 Quiet morning here after a busy day yesterday watching all the travelers on the river. And it was fun yesterday watching the ships leave the port yesterday. Thanks Roy for sharing the links. Overhead Fred Posted May 31, 2021 #56 Share Posted May 31, 2021 It did rain a bit yesterday but cleared up enough to allow for grilling of the shrimp. The Po' Boys were a hit and the ratatouille using grilled veggies was also very good. Haven't decided on today's menu, but we do have Brats in the freezer.... We visited Marseille once on the Koningsdam. We spent the day in St. Remy (beautiful town) so we only saw the port from the ship. Here are a couple of pictures -

Incidentally, I may have a chance to meet you in Norway next year around this time. A friend called just this past week and coaxed us into booking. No arm twisting required! If the stars and moon align, we will be there. (We traded our spring Japan for Norway, due to concerns that Japan won't "open up." I've just about given up on ever seeing Japan. Stupid Covid! 😢 ) You're booked on our cruise? Wonderful 😄 Hope we see you on the roll call 🤞 I feel your pain on Japan.
Seasick Sailor Posted May 31, 2021 #58 Share Posted May 31, 2021 Good morning! Thank you Rich for the Daily. Good morning to my sweet sisters and to our Roy (thanks for Ron's recovery shout out) and to Jacqui , Ann, summer, Deb.. Ann I was happy to see the red wine today... due to it's price! Deb you out did yourself on the recipes today! I used to make macaroons at our B & B. I put an almond in the middle and when cooled I would add a thin stripe of chocolate across the top. So happy Tana was able to go home. Praying she recovers quickly. I am thankful to our troops who lay down their own lives to keep us free. Allen served 20 years. We will raise our glasses tonight to his friends who were killed and those who made it back. Take care of your hearing!! Blessings, Prayers, Cheers and Gratefulness. 19 1

So far just the two-week solid Norway part. We're still investigating the before or after. Flying to Europe from California for just two weeks is not the best. Really looking forward to Norway, though -- never been there!

She will have one more diagnostic test this week and from there the specialists will be able to make a plan for treatment. We don't know exactly what the lung issue is yet but her fevers have stopped and she is responding well to antibiotics for the pneumonia they found. We are all so relieved that she is home. Terry That is very good news. Will continue to send positive vibes that healing continues. Susan 12

JazzyV Posted May 31, 2021 #63 Share Posted May 31, 2021 (edited) Good morning. Thanks for the Daily. Remembering those who gave all on this Memorial Day. I don't like macaroons because of the coconut (it's a sensory thing); I'll take macarons. Hearing is important; I have tinnitus but can still hear well. I'm having ribs for dinner, as opposed to dogs and burgers. I like the wine but pass on the cocktail. I haven't been to today's port. I appreciate the great pictures. Yesterday was 2 firsts since March 2020. Eating indoors in a restaurant (treated myself to filet mignon) and the first hug with BFF! It's finally warming up some. A high of 71. I may try to get the lawn mowed today and tomorrow trim bushes. @Vict0riann Happy Birthday to Pat! @smitty34877 Good news that Tana was released from the hospital. Praying for continued improvement. Prayers for the care list and cheers for the celebration list. Stay safe everyone! Edited May 31, 2021 by JazzyV 23
USN59-79 Posted May 31, 2021 #64 Share Posted May 31, 2021 It is the start of a beautiful week here. On hearing: I was in some noisy places such as a fuse setter in a 5" gun mount on a ship and as the ground electronics officer at a Naval air station during the Vietnam war. (Imagine an F-4 Phantom taking off on afterburner about 100 feet from you) As I was transferring from the Philippines to Hawaii in 1976, I had a physical exam. The doctor said "You are in pretty good shape, but let me give you some advice. A lot of sailors are buying stereos here to ship home. If you buy one, don't pay much for it, because you can't hear it." About ten years later the VA supplied me hearing aids and I have used them successfully since then.
Rare Vict0riann Posted May 31, 2021 #65 Share Posted May 31, 2021 Good morning all! Best wishes to all on Memorial Day - I watched a special last night on PBS about the Japanese surrender on the USS Missouri, and looked for a family friend, "Uncle Jack" Allen, who, I believe, was the Canadian representative at the surrender. I couldn't recognize him, but he was such a dear, and his wife "Auntie Kae" was my Godmother. He gave my mother away at her wedding, as her father had died when DM was a teenager. Pat had a birthday email today from his sister in Perth, WA, saying that she had "Just seen a full page ad in our local newspaper for Holland America cruises around Australia and New Zealand dates are December 2022 and January 2023. It seems that they have cancelled the ones at the end of this year and beginning of next year. " So I think we did the right thing cancelling our cruise in NZ and Australia next March, and switching to a Mediterranean cruise and TA this October - also we just couldn't wait! Anyway, I am really interested to see all the photos of Marseille, as that is on the itinerary. I will wait for @sailingdutchy to tell us what we want to see! Nice to see some good news on the thread today, I'm happy Tana is home and just hope they have figured out what is ailing her. Thanks for the birthday greetings for Pat. He has gone off to golf after I cooked him a big breakfast (not something I ordinarily do). It will be his last meal for some time! The jell-o is prepared and chicken and beef broth bought, along with apple juice and ginger ale. So the liquid diet is ready for him...
Horizon chaser 1957 Posted May 31, 2021 #66 Share Posted May 31, 2021 Good morning, all! Happy Memorial Day to our American Dailyites! DH is especially fond of macaroons. They are entirely different from French macarons. I have made both. Macaroons are quick and easy and can be made by children. Macarons are temperamental and arrogant and ended up LOOKING like they were made by children. Tasty, but decidedly lopsided. BBQ burgers or brats sounds good, but DH gets his permanent crown today at the dentist, so dinner may be chicken soup made from the stewing hens we picked up the other day. Lots of veggies, and maybe dumplings. And yes, Gerry, wine. Of course wine. I have never been to today’s port, but can go vicariously through the pictures. Thank you all who posted them! Happy Monday, and enjoy the garden or BBQ or wherever you spend the day. If only it could be relaxing on a BHB!

Cruising-along Posted May 31, 2021 #70 Share Posted May 31, 2021 Good morning all and Happy Memorial Day! Many of DH's family have severe hearing problems, some have been deaf all their lives. Thankfully DH's hearing is only slightly affected and even though (I think) he should be wearing hearing aids, he does OK so far without them. Not a fan of coconut, so I've never liked Macaroons. Too sweet for me. I know I'm in the minority 😉 We've been to Marseilles and Provence twice. The first time was in 2008, no photos from that visit good enough to share I'm afraid...we rented a car and drove to Aix-en-Provence and Arles. DS and DBIL came with us that cruise, and that day was my sister's birthday -- a great way to spend it! The second visit was on our last (sob) cruise in 2019. We took an 8-hour tour to Avignon and Pont du Gard, the Roman aqueduct built in 50 AD. Another great day! @smitty34877such wonderful news about Tana!! So happy she has been released to go home and praying for a full recovery. Just a couple photos of Marseilles as both times we spent the day outside of the city. Pont du Gard Inscribed stones when the bridge was built Some scenes of Avignon 30

Sharon in AZ Posted May 31, 2021 #73 Share Posted May 31, 2021 (edited) Good morning everyone!! Remembering those who serve and served our country and those who lost their lives for our freedom. Thank you for the Memorial Day Daily Rich and thank you for your lists Roy and Jacqui. I think we are having steak on the grill today since we had hotdogs on Saturday. I made a huge crockpot batch of Chili yesterday and somehow it turned out extra spicy. I think it was the dried Chipotle powder I added but I’m not telling the family. 😉. DGD had some last night and kept adding milk to tame the spice. She said it was good that way, who knew? We haven’t been to today’s port but did sail by on our 2001 Rotterdam Med Cruise. They called it “scenic cruising “. I think DH took pictures of the Calanques. I’ll have to check on our old hard drive. @VictOriann Happy Birthday to your DH! @smitty34877 So good to hear Tana is home. Have a great day everyone!! When you're not there is it empty or do you rent it out? It would be cool to have a place like that to go to whenever you wanted to get away for a change of scenery. Rare Vict0riann Posted May 31, 2021 #75 Share Posted May 31, 2021 Going back to my mention of the email from DSIL in Perth, WA, I am wondering about the fact that it was just an ad for cruises late 2022, I checked the HAL site and Australia and NZ cruises are still listed for this year, so we'll have to wait and see what happens. Perhaps @erewhon will know more about the situation.
