judatt Posted June 5, 2021 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2021 We've been in suites before but not on a ship with Luminae and not on ship without an assigned dining time and place. So, my question is do people eat all their meals in Luminae, or do you pick a specialty restaurant or two for a little variety? Thanks.
pl281 Posted June 5, 2021 #2 Share Posted June 5, 2021 @judatt I think you are going to get all sort of answers - IMO the food in Luminae is better / more upscale than the food in the MDR so for me doing a specialty restaurant in addition is not needed - In terms of meals - we typically do dinner in Luminae - Breakfast - maybe once or twice - the rest of the time and lunch/snack is in the buffet
CHEZMARYLOU Posted June 5, 2021 #3 Share Posted June 5, 2021 Depends on the ship. We book higher end suites and get free specialty dining. We take advantage of that on S class ships since Murano's and Lawn Club Grill are our favorite ship restaurants. On M class we eat dinner more in Luminae. Our next cruise is on Edge, 1st time, and we will try all of the restaurants at least once. Breakfast is usually in our suite since we are never ready when Luminae is open. Lunch on port days is Luminae, sea days it depends on what is open. We would still book a specialty restaurant or 2 even If we did not get free specialty dining.

George C Posted June 5, 2021 #5 Share Posted June 5, 2021 We love Luminae but normally eat at least one dinner in a specialty, we check dinner menu daily, if menu doesn’t look to interesting we will book a specialty, service is by far better in Luminae than any specialty. Luminae is not open on port days for lunch . We also sometimes sleep to late for breakfast.
cruzzzinma Posted June 5, 2021 #6 Share Posted June 5, 2021 We like Sushi on Five for lunch sometimes and if the ship has Muranos we have dinner there at least once.
Denny01 Posted June 5, 2021 #7 Share Posted June 5, 2021 What are the expected dining times in Luminae for breakfast, lunch at sea and dinner? I assume you just step in and they seat you as you show up. Den

marieps Posted June 5, 2021 #9 Share Posted June 5, 2021 We'll be in Luminae for the first time (hopefully) on Sillie's TA November 1st. We may hit Murano for the Dover Sole only because we have so much stupid OBC.

For most suites they charge , if you are in a royal or above they are free, even when we have royal suite we eat most meals in Luminae.

jalves Posted June 5, 2021 #12 Share Posted June 5, 2021 We've done both. Luminae for most meals but perhaps one or two meals in a specialty restaurant, never the MDR. We usually travel with people who enjoy sushi so one meal at Fish on Five is likely.

dkjretired Posted June 5, 2021 #14 Share Posted June 5, 2021 Your choice may depend on the ship you are on. M class ships have very limited Specialties while S class and E class not so much.
sn2792 Posted June 5, 2021 #15 Share Posted June 5, 2021 We eat lunch on sea days in Luminae and dinner most days. If we are on a ship with Murano, we will book a night there. We are on Summit 7/17 and have booked Chefs table for one night because we have so much OBC.
NCHPcruiser Posted June 5, 2021 #16 Share Posted June 5, 2021 On a short 7 day cruise we usually try one of the specialty restaurants. On a longer cruise we will generally try a specialty restaurant and may sign up for a special wine dinner or something similar. We love Sushi on Five so always have either lunch or dinner there. It also depends on the itinerary and how busy we are during the day.

miched Posted June 6, 2021 #19 Share Posted June 6, 2021 For the first time in a suite just dine in Luminae, try all the menus. The next time you may want to try a specialty restaurant Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅
miched Posted June 6, 2021 #20 Share Posted June 6, 2021 2 hours ago, Bellaggio Cruisers said: We are on a 7 day cruise….if we chose one specialty restaurant, which would it be? thanks sheila It depends on what you like and the ship you are on. If you look on Xs website I think they show the menus for the various restaurants. If not there are many sites that post the menus. Give it a google happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅
El Crucero Posted June 6, 2021 #21 Share Posted June 6, 2021 Well, it depends. If we have tons of OBC, we tend to eat more often in specialty restaurants. If not we are perfectly happy to eat exclusively in Luminae. AND if we are on a 7 day cruise we may eat once in a specialty. But we try to book minimum 14 day cruises (even if B2B) and then we may eat 3 to 5 times in a specialty. AND then it depends on the ship. More specialty options on S class then M class. It just depends.

Cruise a holic Posted June 6, 2021 #23 Share Posted June 6, 2021 We enjoy Luminae for breakfast, some lunch and occasionally dinner- service excellent and the food good- they will also do special requests, and you have the option to also order from the MDR menu. We do however, enjoy dinner at the sp restaurants. We typically have the unlimited sp dining package. On the edge, we did dine in all the sp restaurants, didn't like Eden- but others good. Also we tried two of the MDR's which also were great- the Edge class has multiple MDR's- not a big catering hall- and a varied menu. On the S class ships, we love the Lawn Club Grill- our Favorite- we also dine on the M class at least once in each sp restaurant- except we aren't sushi eaters. You will really enjoy suite class including luminae. 2

sofietucker Posted June 6, 2021 #25 Share Posted June 6, 2021 We usually eat dinner in Luminae. Once or twice in a specialty restaurant or wine dinner... Used to love Qsine; did Petit Chef once. Great fun, simple food. Tuscan Grille is A LOT of food. Browse the menu at Luminae when it's posted, usually an hour or so after the previous meal ends. (Either HAL or X also has the menus on your TV.) Any commonalities you see between the food in Luminae and the MDR, you are getting the MDR meal, as explained to us by the luminae maitre d'. So if you made friends not in a suite, and you want the Beef Wellington, might as well join them in the MDR (other than some menu items, formal night is not any different in Luminae). We have breakfast via room service (extended menu and free mimosas!) and lunch either ashore or random grazing in the buffet/pool grill/spa lunch. Easier not to have to change out of a swimsuit, etc. The key thing about Luminae is the fabulous service. No waiting, very attentive, no errors; they immediately know your name, preferred drinks, etc. (Once upon a time when we first started cruising, ALL meal service was like that...) In any case: enjoy!!!
