At Sea Caribbean
Nieuw Amsterdam destination Miami FL US eta today

Given the schedule and destination, I suspect a medical evacuation

It's curious ... PTZtv's Facebook page says she is scheduled into Miami at 15:00 and scheduled to leave at 24:00.  PTZtv is not always correct, but if it is in this case that's more than a routine medical evacuation.  And she's only traveling at 9.4 kn so she's not in a big hurry ...

But she was originally scheduled into Key West ... and local Key West officials have made it known in the past that large ships are not welcome.  So maybe HAL changed the itinerary ?

Good Halloween afternoon!

It's 12:45pm in New York, and we just had our first Trick or Treaters! I know we'll have a bunch more, we have lots of small kids on our block and in the area...guess they're waiting for later. We're prepared with lots of candy - hoping I can give it all away so we won't be tempted!!

We've been to Icy Strait Point twice. Our first visit was on the 14 day Amsterdam cruise in 2012.  At that time we had to tender in to the cannery area.  We took a bus tour of the town, and saw a totem carving demonstration and native dancers.  The most amazing thing to us were the eagles - they were EVERYWHERE! We were lucky to see one in a tree near a nest, and then one was on the guard rail by the road and spread his wings to take off as we watched.

We were back in Icy Strait Point in 2017, again on the 14 day Amsterdam cruise. This time we were able to dock down the way.  We walked down to the cannery building to check out the vendors, but then we had a wonderful tour on a tram through the woods, with a native Tlinkit guide. He was a chief, and was a wealth of information about the area and the tribe. It was one of the most interesting and educational tours we've taken.  We also saw a mink on the beach fishing!

I really think Icy Strait Point is one of my favorites places in Alaska - not commercialized at all, and kept very much the way it's always been.  Hope we can get back there another time!

Prayers for all with health issues.  I'll lift a glass of wine to all celebrating!  Take care everyone, and hope we can meet on a BHB in the future!

Good morning everyone and Happy Sunday!  I had to switch to Chrome in order to like and post. I’m getting tired of having to clear history just to enjoy the Daily.

I didn’t buy any pumpkins 🎃 this year because we’ve been gone and won’t be seeing our grandchildren today. This picture is from two years ago when both grandchildren were here:

Thank you for the Daily Rich and thank you for your lists Roy. Prayers to those on the Care list.

I very often have strong deja vu but I don’t think that’s considered physic powers. The meal suggestion sounds interesting. I have a pork tenderloin defrosted that I might make a variation from the recipe. I was actually going to split the tenderloin and make two different meals. Fried rice is one of our favorites.  Our steak yesterday was excellent. I ended up just making baked potatoes because I was starting a pot of beans from a new recipe in the crockpot. It had fennel in it and I was worried it would be overpowering because we both aren’t fans, but it was really good. The fennel cooked down enough and was very mild.

We were in ISP in early September but we didn’t get off the ship and all the pictures we took are on Craig’s phone. I’ll check his out and see if there are any worth posting.

The wine sounds great and I think I may have had it before.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning and Happy Halloween! We've been in Icy Strait Point and Hoonah multiple times both on the Amsterdam 14 day and this summer on the Nieuw Amsterdam twice. We love the stop. We've walked into Hoonah seveal times on the nice paved walkway. We've done a tour or two and enjoyed them.

This year they have added a gondola system that starts at the Icy Strait area and goes up to the Wilderness stop and eventually (like next year) will go to the top of the zipline. That will eliminate having to use buses to get to the starting point. Just getting the materials in was a study in logistics. The best part, to us, is that the gondola is handicapped accessible. They stop it and DH can ride his scooter right on.

@ger_77congrats on getting the casino offer and deciding to take the cruise.  Sounds like the perfect time to get away from the "frozen tundra"!

Is the gondola at Icy Strait Point brand new?  We didn't see it in Sept. 2019.  Sounds like a great idea cutting down on time spent getting to the top of the mountain for the zip line ride.

Today I'm washing sheets and I wondered if any of you fold fitted sheets like I do.  I once saw Martha Stewart on a talk show (probably Regis and Kathie Lee) and she showed everyone how to do it neatly.  It involves getting those four corners lined up and then laying the sheet down on a flat surface to complete the job.  Sure makes your linen closet look neater!  I use a guest room bed next door to the laundry room to fold the sheets.  Here's a link to a video showing how to do it correctly.

I forgot to congratulate the Atlanta Braves today for their win last night.  They're ahead 3 games to 1 over the Houston Astros.  Wishing them luck tonight!  You can't get too sure of yourself at this point though.  My fave team the St. Louis Cardinals had a 3 - 0 lead on their opponents during a World Series, but ended up losing the following 4 games and missing their chance at taking home a WS win.  That had never happened before if I recall correctly.  I wish I knew who the winning team was or what year it was.  I don't watch ball games I just cheer on the team!

I forgot to mention - on Thursday our county lifted the indoor mask mandate because  the numbers were below the required level -- today it was announced that they received new, higher numbers and will probably reinstate the mandate in the next few days. Trick or treat!

Yes, this is the first year for it. Here is a link to an article about it. All the materials were barged in - quite an undertaking.

The first section isn't too high up and you can do the ride round trip and not get off if you want. This season it was free but I've heard that there will be a charge next year.

Thanks for that.  Looks like our cruise would have been one of the last ones before they announced this improvement.  I keep seeing the whale statue and I swear we didn't see that either.  Sept. 2019.

I love the carrots with the pot roast too!  When my kids were young they didn't want the carrots from the pot roast.  I always told them they had to eat one tiny piece which they did.  My DD avoids eating almost any vegetable nowadays.  DS eats nearly anything but tells me he now hates olives and peas.  To each their own!🤪

Good afternoon, Dailyites.

One thing special about Icy Strait Point is that when the tide is low, you can easily walk the shoreline and see all manner of interesting things.  Here are some of our finds:

But more importantly….

Have a Happy Halloween, Everyone!  🎃👻💀

Good morning, all! Happy Halloween! I love today’s quote. Stir fry is one of my go to dishes on busy days. None of my Alaska cruises have taken us to Icy Strait Point, so I’m enjoying it through the posted pictures. @cat shepard I’m so glad the package arrived!  Ow to wait and see how it looks on you!

DD in Taiwan called this morning. She moved to her new apartment this weekend. It’s smaller, but very pretty in a newer and much nicer building. The location is better and she has it all to herself. Now that Taiwan’s lockdown has ended, work has started again so she has money coming in again. Life is looking good again and she sounds very happy.

We leave for Mexico in three days. Packing and repacking and putting half the clothes away again is a familiar ritual I’ve missed for the past year and a half. We’ve been loading all the important stuff on our phones - vaccination cards, travel insurance cards, the ArriveCAN app for coming home. Four days from now I’ll be sipping morning coffee with my sister looking out over the Bay of Banderas.

Happy Sunday! What a day to have afternoon tea on a BHB!

@Horizon chaser 1957

Laura

I love it. It is even more beautiful in person.
But the sizing is interesting. It fits me like a large from the waist up. But it fits me like a medium at the waist.

No one is going to believe me when I tell them how you made it.
Thank you again for making this happen!
