In 2017, we decided to check out the Arsenale, home of the Italian Navy and the Naval Museum, which had a display of various types of boats besides naval vessels.  These pictures are of the entrance to the restricted area of the naval facility.

We also visited the Jewish Ghetto, which is not easy to find.  After the bustle of the rest of Venice, it was eerily quiet.

We like Murano, but Burano was even more interesting and prettier with it's brightly painted buildings.  While Murano is know for glass, Burano is known for lace.

We have been fortunate to overnight in Venice twice.  St. Marks Square and the surrounding area are practically empty compared to the daytime.  This is the walk from the vaporetto dock to the square at night.

Good morning from sunny central Texas.

The Navaho code talkers were instrumental in winning the war in the Pacific in WWII. I believe we are financially aware, and we've never played whiffle ball.

Today's quote is interesting.

We'll pass on the meal and the drink.  The wine sounds good, and we've had some good wines from eastern Europe.

We have been to Venice several times.  It was the port of the day on June 17, 2021.  If you posted pictures that day and do a search for Venice, I found my pictures on page 21 of the search.

@cat shepard  Ann, I'm glad the party was a success.

@aliaschief  Bruce, thanks for the pictures.  Glad you three and your luggage all made it safely to the ship.

@lindaler  Linda, it sounds like you have a busy few weeks until your Alaska cruise.

Pictures from June 17, 2021.

The problem with many visits to Venice there are just too many to choose from.  We were there in 2016 and 2017 on the Prinsendam, and in 2019 on the Veendam.  So my pictures will be a mix from five visits, and will have to be broken up between two posts.

A couple of pictures as we sailed into port on the Veendam.

In 2016, during our first time in Venice, we got to the Doge's Palace ahead of the tours, and managed to get a senior ticket that included three other museums. The first picture is looking out the Bridge of Sighs toward the lagoon, which was the last look at the city for most prisoners.  The second picture is a repeat, but it puts the first one in perspective.DSC07711.thumb.JPG.f8b66ebdf857e9b5016363c52903f948.JPGDSC07769.thumb.JPG.868f9ab4cbcad4d0e5a49d9df44acbe7.JPG.

After the three other museums, we headed to the Campanella with advice to be back down before noon as the bells are deafening.  In the last pictures, you can see the Prinsendam "in front of the X ship.

DSC07730.thumb.JPG.699fec151c2f57a573f88bf2739ee1e6.JPG

On our second call there was after Venice had three days of heavy rain, and St. Marks Square was underwater.  We bypassed the area, and found a dry route to some of the back streets.

DSC08274.thumb.JPG.548949eadd0220f7fdcab37c370be2e2.JPG

On another visit, we took a gondola ride, but without the singing.

We have also toured the Opera house.

One  of the streets away from the Grand Canal.

There was an art festival one time we were in Venice, and there were various temporary displays around the city.  This one was on the Grand Canal.

Lenda

Great selection of photos Lenda.

The sail in and out of Venice is amazing.

We stayed at the Hilton Molino Stucky in Venice and got a water taxi from the airport to the hotel and another water taxi to the cruise terminal the next day.

Graham.

We were driven by private hire to Rotterdam and now on board the MS Rotterdam on packed and enjoying the beautiful weather on our SB aft veranda..Boarding was quick and no one seemed to care about boarding times. In fact we actually got through everything and we all questioned did anyone check our vaccination and Covid test result?

We enjoyed a quiet lunch in the MDR and at 2:30 we have unpacked, sorted through three weeks of dirty laundry, visited our Muster Station and laying back and watching the river traffic awaiting sail-away.

Not sure how WI-Fi will be affected but will try and keep you apprised of our daily travels. In today’s world it’s always a relief when you make it onboard through all the protocol and obstacles.

Thanks Rich for the Daily and for all our friends on the Daily.

Bruce

Your aft veranda looks a lot like ours did.  We were on deck 8 and loved it.   Wi-Fi was really hit or miss on our cruise, mostly miss.  The claim was that the fjords interfered, but they did so in a weird manner.  When we sailed into Eidfjord the first time we had Wi-Fi all the way in and for a couple of hours while in port.  Then, all of a sudden, someone flipped the switch and it all went out including Navigator.   A similar situation in Flam.  We had Wi-Fi sailing in, but not sailing out.  Then the Wi-Fi went down and stayed down for a day.  Crew was more agitated with that one than any of us because it made it difficult to do their work.  The curious part was how often Navigator went down.  Since that is intranet and not internet it shouldn't rely on the satellites unless it is a really cheap system using a cloud base.

When I did the Midnight Sun cruise in 2017 I was able to get Wi-Fi the whole time.  It never went down for me.  In 2019 I was able to conduct a Zoom meeting off the coast of Greenland.  I think the Wi-Fi system was changed.  Last year in Alaska all the web sites came up on Spanish and it wouldn't allow me to send email or access some web sites.  I admit they were questionable like the Ohio Department of Health.   My thoughts is HAL should be ashamed of charging people for this service since they cannot deliver on it.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  I've always been financially aware - not always financially happy, but definitely aware.  Bless the Navajo Code Talkers.  Never played whiffle ball.

Well apparently misery loves company . . .    Yesterday it felt like I was coming down with a cold, so I tested - negative - yay!  But by 6PM last evening it felt like I'd been hit by a truck.  I was in bed by 7 and spent a full 12 hours there.  I got up this morning and tested again. Positive.  Oh joy.

I don't care for takoyaki with octopus, but I'm sure it would be good with shrimp, however, I don't feel like eating anything right now.  I'm glad I've got chicken soup, salmon and a whole bunch of other things in the fridge because DH and our student are going to be on their own today.  I'm going back to bed.

Oh, DH doesn't qualify for Paxlovid as he isn't considered high risk, so he's just going to have to ride it out as well.

Take care everyone.

Good Sunday Morning Dailyites!  I am financially aware that I am one of those Americans that live pay check to pay check, (so I went back to work to get another pay check.) I did play wiffle ball, but never took it seriously, and I believe that we should appreciate the Navajo Code Talkers everyday for the work that they did during WWII.

@grapau27Thank you so much for Father David this morning.  I need that type of fire.  And I never knew the history of matches.   So thank you!

So far today looks like a quiet day, no plans for me, I might go out and hack down some shrubbery that is currently eating my  Adirondack chairs that are in the corner of the driveway.

DH has been watching a Netflix show called Alone.  Where you go out into the wilderness, along with the bears, and try to live alone.  Building your own shelter, catching and eating your own food.  The one who stays the longest wins money.  They are in the wilderness on a lake in BC, and it is fall, with winter coming in.  When you are ready to call it quits, you call on a special phone, and they come get you.  Most folks so far have left because they have realized that family and health is more important than money.  I think everyone on the Daily already know that.

Breakfast today is some fresh mango and a granola muffin.  No cooking this morning for me!  Yeah!

Today I am going to be praying for the renewal to sanity to humans.  The news of the world needs a good reboot.

Blessed Sunday Daily-ites. Thank you Graham for Father's message.

Still reeling from our Jacqui's post last night. Prayers lifted, Roy's care list is getting longer again. Hoping Gerry doesn't wake to covid this morning.

Bon Voyage to Bruce and the girls. Beautiful city pictures of Rotterdam.

Had girls over last night for Mahjongg and a few other games. At 8:30 it was still too warm to sit out on the patio. Praying for rain! Today is our water day so going to take advantage of it by adding more water to our poor trees.

Not ever going to try the meal of the day but would love to sit at the table with Roy and share Ceasar salad, prime rib, and baked Alaska.

Finally today is a nothing on the calendar day, so going to enjoy it!

Sending prayers and Cheers. Xx

Thank you all.

I'm pleased you liked Father David's sermon which I'm always happy to post.

Graham.

Warning, I may get flamed for this!  It is also National Tattoo Removal Day. Shouldn’t it be celebrated everyday 😀

Neither Pauline or myself have any tattoos.

We always wonder why people would change the look of their skin.

Our Sarah has a few tattoo's.

Personal choice.

I was supposed to embark from Venice in 2021 but the cruise was changed to Ravenna and then cancelled. Coincidentally I'm at the Fenimore Art Museum this morning and there is an exhibit of depictions of Venice by American artists.

There's also "North by Nuuk: Greenland After Rockwell Kent," contemporary photographs by Denis Defibaugh. Since many Dailyites have visited Greenland here are a few. The first looks like a watercolor but isn't.

Good morning, all!As we prepare for the longest trip we’ve ever taken, and arrange for everything to keep running at home while we’re gone, I’m definitely Financially Aware right now. The history of the Navajo Code Talkers has always fascinated me. We’ve never been to Venice, so all the pictures are much appreciated!

@ger_77 dam, dam, double dam - and not in the BHB sense! I found with us too that the symptoms hit before the test showed positive. I hope the symptoms are short lived. That fatigue drags on for a couple of weeks, though. It’s like being a battery that’s completely drained flat. If you try to push and do things before you’re ready, it will go flat again. Let yourself recharge!
Today is my DM’s birthday. She would have been 98. She was always pleased with the fact that the Perseid meteor shower usually peaked on her birthday. Tonight the light cloud should be gone, and we’re supposed to,have clear skies. I’ll be out in the zero gravity chair watching the sky in her honour.

Yesterday (after the kitchen wipe down) was spent making a list of excursions, with the company involved and when payment is due. Other than the ones we pay boots on the ground, I want the rest payed before we leave. Next is calculating currencies to take, and how much. I’m thinking USD, Euros, and Australian dollars. The rest we can get smaller amounts when the time comes.

Happy Sunday, everyone! How I envy those aboard a BHB, but my time is coming.

Good morning all!

Interesting collection of days, I'll pass on the meal, drink and wine today.  We've been to Venice once, thank you for the great photos already posted.

Gerry @ger_77I'm sorry you've tested positive now -- praying for mild cases for both you and your DH.

Today I'd like to see if the Gravenstein apples are ready anywhere near us.  We love them for sauce and pies -- the best!  Then maybe stop by our favorite Italian restaurant on our way home.  This will all depend on whether the apples are ready.  They have a very short season and it varies year to year.  This has been a strange year, our warmer drier days came later than usual, and we had a terribly wet spring.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Enjoy your cruise. Nice pictures and huge balcony. We were on the Rotterdam in March 2022 for 14 days with a verandah cabin on deck 6 with one of those diagonal balconies. It was very nice but there was a creaking sound in cabin 24/7 or I call it 31. HAL moved us to another verandah cabin on Deck 5. The balcony was larger than the cabin (230 sq ft). That was a nice surprise for our inconvenience.

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

These days we all need to be financially aware. A salute to the Navajo Code Talkers and how they helped our country. I've never played whiffle ball. Good quote.

I'll pass on the meal and drink. I'll take the wine.

I've been to Italy, but not Venice. Thanks for the photos.

It's cloudy here, but nice temps. Possible showers later. I had a nice time with BFF and friends yesterday. We figured out I hadn't seen the other two folks in about 6 years! I did leave earlier as I'm still not comfortable driving at night yet.

@kazu I was so sorry to read your post yesterday. Prayers for you and Shadow.

@grapau27 Thanks for today's sermon from Father David.

@aliaschief I'm glad you're on board Rotterdam. Thanks for the pictures. Have a great cruise!

@lindaler You've got a lot going on!

@ger_77 So sorry to hear of your positive test this morning. Rest and take care of yourself. I hope DH is feeling better.

@Horizon chaser 1957 Happy Heavenly Birthday to your DM.

Prayers for the Care List and a Toast to the Celebration List.

Try to be safe all.

Good morning everyone!  Just a quick note this morning.

I wanted to share a picture Craig took of the moon Thursday evening. I was going up the stairs and saw it through the window and it looked amazing. It’s a bit blurry because of the window, but still beautiful.

Have a great day everyone!

For your mam
