Good morning!  I am also one who prefers crab over lobster, but still really enjoy lobster. 😉  This is crab at the Rotterdam Pinnacle Grill in December when we ate with Rich, Joy and Allen. Joy and I both got the crab. Yum!

I wish it was on the menu for our Nieuw Statendam cruise next month but the Navigator app it shows lobster. Probably because we’ll be in Canada/New England!

I prefer plain glazed donuts and admit that I’m not big on sweets. I get a craving for chocolate chip cookies once in a while though.

I make Migas occasionally, it’s an easy meal but I don’t put any meat or shrimp in mine. It’s similar to the Tex Mex recipe Debbie posted.  Great news about the offer on your house Debbie @dfish!

I hope the help you get from the hospice team helps all of you get more rest Terry @smitty34877.  Also, thank you for the recent pictures of Sweet Miss Camilla. She is getting so big!

Terri @Cruzin Terri — prayers that the house repairs happen quickly. Relax and try to enjoy the condo.

Have a great day everyone!

Good Afternoon everyone.

I will start with the fact that I have not yet read either today’s or yesterday’s posts.

I forgot my Ipad at my house and find it very hard to navigate  Cruise Critic on my phone.

I read through a few posts from yesterday and thank all of you for your supportive comments.

Yesterday did hold some surprises.  However, they were not good ones.

I took a nasty fall.  I hurt my right hip (yes, the bad one), my right arm and my forehead.  I was not a happy camper.

There was another unhappy surprise from a “friend” of mine who pretty much told me that she is too busy right now to talk to me about what is going on in my house.  Just on the day when I needed someone to talk to the most.

Not a good day overall.

We now know that both the tub and the shower have to come out of the Master Bath.  The good news there is that we get to renovate the bathroom the way we wish.

Also all the fans have been removed.  The house is quiet again.

We did have our first meeting with the contractor today. We are quite happy with him.  However, the project will take quite a while.  We will probably be out of our home for a number of months.

I wish to thank everyone for being so supportive and your prayers.

I will try to update each day.

I am going to try to read the posts and will post again later if I can.

God Bless,

Terri

We have had a lot of long nights here in the last week  and everyone  is cranky and tired.I have an urge to just get in the car and drive but that is neither practical  or responsible. We meet with the Hospice team today to discuss additional  help.It is expensive but if we all share the cost it should be possible.

I hope & pray you can get the help 🙏🏻 You surely need it 😢

As @Quartzsite Cruiser said, it only takes one.  I'm happy to report that there is one offer in on the house and more showings today.   My realtor is letting all the other agents know that we will be meeting at noon tomorrow to review the offers.  So, it will be sold.  The current offer is enough to get us that house in Midland.

Oh no on the fall.  Definitely NOT what you need.  And forgetting your IPAD.  I am though, happy that you are happy with the contractor.  I hope they perform as promised.

Good day everyone.  The Volendam is passing through the English Channel as I post this heading for Malaga.  I wonder if they had the hull scrapped or treated after being docked in Rotterdam so long.  Captain Noel O'Driscoll told us the Nieuw Statendam hull was cleaned by underwater divers while we were in Portland, UK, back in June.  With the Volendam getting ready to resume cruising, the Holland America fleet finally resumes complete operation. It is hard for me to realize that Volendam is now the oldest ship in the fleet.

Good afternoon.

It is currently 66°C and sunny on the North East coast of England.

Thank you for the fleet reports and Daily Rich.

I am not a lover of crab meat.

Quiet day suits me perfectly.

Cream filled 🍩 sounds delicious.

Not sure about today's food but Sauvignon Blanc is nice.

Interesting quote.

Daily prayers 🙏 for friends who are unwell.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy day.

Graham.

best wishes to you and all your fellow citizens.  Wish the best for UK in future for not only new King but for upcoming issues with inflation as well as a new PM.

I hope you had a nice time on Anthem.  I leave tomorrow on the Adventure up to New England and Nova Scotia.

Terri, so sorry to hear about that bad fall you had.  Hopefully the pain will be short lived.  Just what you didn't need!  Also too bad about your former "friend" who has no time for you in your time of need.  🙄

Good to hear the contractor made a favorable impression.  Good work does take time though.  Hopefully you can stay busy so time flies by.  You have an anniversary celebration coming up, don't you?

That was me.  I was confusing the Charles Smith wine of the day with Charles Shaw, the "Two Buck Chuck" sold by Trader Joe's.

Good afternoon after a busy morning.  I finally have time to sit down and catch my breath.  Today was laundry day for starters.

About Labor Day, Costco had some of those "velvet" hangers on sale with 100 hangers, that included free shipping.  I'd been wanting to replace some of my hangers with these for several years, ever since I got one from the laundry on cruise.  By the way, it did not get returned to the laundry, and neither did the few others that showed up with the clean clothes over the years.  🤣  Between folding clothes as they came out of the dryer, I switched out about 60 hangers for both of us.  There are still some if we find more that need changing and the rest will go to Quartzsite to replace some there.  Now, maybe the clothes won't fall off the hangers.  🤞

I visited Sihanoukville on the Zaandam February 10, 2012.  I'll start with a photo of the port itself which we shared with the much smaller Seabourn Pride:

pridevszaandam.jpg

I had a ship's tour with several stops.  The first was the Buddhist Intra Ngean Pagoda

ngean.jpg

We then stopped at Ochheuteal, a beautiful but very crowded beach.  My notes indicated it was very commercialized.

I found the smell in the market overwhelming and when we got to free time walked around downtown a bit, passing a primary school at dismissal time:

Our final stop was a fishing base where we walked among the boats, which do their actual fishing overnight.

Finally, a message from the monks at Intra Ngean Pagoda;

Roy, thank you for your pictures of Sihanoukville.  We didn't have time to see much of the town.

Like you said Lenda about selling homes in the past, it just takes the right person to come through.  We have also had two of our homes purchased by the company DH worked for, to get us out quickly and moved to the new position.

But we've had other homes that either took several months to sell (economic conditions caused that) or sold within 1 or 2 days.  One home went on the market on a Tuesday morning at 10:30 am and the realtors started their "tours" of that week's new listings.  I remember doing that new listing tour on Tuesdays when I was a realtor in California.  Anyway, I left the home to go shopping at 10:30 am when car loads of realtors arrived to view it.  I was sitting in Panera (St. Louis Bread Company!) waiting for my lunch 90 minutes later and got a call that they had an offer!  One realtor brought their clients along on the tour because she knew they would want my house, and they wrote up an offer before 12 noon giving us until 3 pm to accept it or not.  They saw a sign up sheet with a dozen realtors making appointments to see the house and that's why they gave us 3 hours to think about it.  If they hadn't given us $15,000 over asking price we might have countered on time to allow others to see it, but it was a good deal.  Besides our next home was already under construction.  That's the fastest we ever got an offer though.   DH had to leave work early that day to come home and review and sign the offer.  If I had any champagne in my house we would have opened a bottle to celebrate, but I didn't.  Darn it!🥂  Do you have your champagne ready Debbie?  Or would you rather have a congratulatory glass of red?🍷

Sandi, that is a quick sale.  Du Pont was notorious for telling someone that they were being transferred.  They'd find out they would finish the week on Friday, and start the new job in the new location on Monday morning, leaving the wife to handle the house sale along with taking care of the kids and maybe even working.  We were lucky that DH's boss gave him some leeway, and he did not have to report to the new location for a month or so.  We put one move off for a little more than three months, but only because the day he came home and told me we were moving, was the day our younger DD was born.  After he started his own company, our last two moves were at our own pace.

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I only eat crab as crab cakes and don't like cream-filled donuts. I like quiet at times.

I like the quote. Yes to the drink. No to the meal and wine.

I've never been to Sihanoukville.

Brr. Another chilly start to the day, but up to a nice 78F later. I turned off the ceiling fan in the bedroom before going to sleep last night. I'm off to a doctor's appointment soon, then to the eye doctor's office about my glasses. It was also the day for my biweekly injection; my hands start to hurt again about 2 days before it's due.

@dfish Great news about your house! Hoping you hear good news about the Michigan house. It took me about a year to sell my first house (shared driveway, high taxes). I fell in love with this house and after 60 days had to make a decision. So I had 2 mortgages for 10 months. No fun!

@kazu Safe trip to your therapy session.

@RedneckBob 😃

@smitty34877 Prayers for you all during this trying time.

@HAL4NOW Good news that people are getting power back and the fire starting to be contained.

@rafinmd @Quartzsite Cruiser Thanks for the photos.

Prayers for the Care List. Cheers for the Celebration List.

Stay safe everyone.

Vanessa, I hope the doctor's appointment went well and that you got the glasses prescription straighten out.  I hope you don't have too much of a reaction from you shot today.

Bolt Creek Fire Update: Highway 2 remains closed west of Skykomish to Gold Bar. About 350 PSE customers continue to be without power since Saturday. The Incident Management Team was upgraded to Type 2 IMT yesterday morning. That team has quicker access to resources and is able to cut through red tape when something is needed.

Evacuation Level for Index, WA, was downgraded from level 3 to level 2. With that adjustment and many in the fire area having electricity restored, hope that this fire is headed toward real containment is becoming a reality.

I'm glad the fire situation is improving and hope it is contained soon.

Yikes, 😱 Terri, on the fall.  I hope you are doing better.  I'm sorry there was more damage to the bathroom, but now you can get the bathroom you want.  My father always said there was a silver lining in even the worst situation, and this might be yours.  I'm sorry about your "friend".  A true friend, no matter how busy, will take time to comfort a friend who needs it.  It's good that you trust your contractor.  Will you be able to extent your time in the condo and have the insurance company cover the cost?  I really hope both those are a reality.

Speaking of contractors, the one who has been trying to track down our roof leak for the past year was here yesterday.  He is a very busy contractor, but will find time to replace all the screws in our metal roof with new ones.  Most of the type of screws used when the house was built were guaranteed for 20-25 years, and we've been here 23 years.  We opted for the new, more expensive screws where the rubber is not exposed to the sun.  He said, he would arrange for someone to come repair our kitchen ceiling and replace the insulation that is probably damaged after several years of leaks.  He also wants to be here when the ceiling is opened up, so he can finally trace the leak back to the origin.

I'll be glad when the leak is fixed and the ceiling is repaired, but I want to wait until after a heavy rain or two once the roof work is done, before we tackle the ceiling.  I only want to have to go through that once, if possible.

Good afternoon!  I just finished reading all of the posts.  Thanks for daily, recipes, photos and posts.  It is a great group concerned and caring!

congratulations Debbie on house - I hope you get an even better offer and move and new house goes well!  We have moved a lot and sold a lot of houses, most went well, but a couple didn’t.  I dread moves.

Crab and donuts are both great (though not together).

best wishes to all!

My goodness, the move you learned about on the day your DD was born must have really threw you for a loop!  Thankfully, nothing like that ever happened to us.😲

The worst move emotionally for the family was the summer our DD was preparing for her senior year of high school in Ohio.  Her Dad came home and said I have to move us to Virginia for my new position.  She was devastated at having to leave her school with her group of friends and miss out on graduating with them all.  When we got to Williamsburg in August she started filling out college admissions papers for Ohio State which she had no intention of doing prior to leaving Columbus.  She wanted to go to college in a different town from where her family lived, to fully experience living on her own.  But since we were no longer there she wanted to go right back so she could have a large group of friends to hang out with.  That's the way a 17 year old thinks!!  Anyway, she was accepted and went right back to Columbus as soon as she graduated from her Williamsburg high school.  I often think about what would her life be like if we hadn't moved that summer.  She would have chosen another college, wouldn't have met her first husband there, and wouldn't have her three oldest children.  So all of us agree we're happy with the way it turned out (except her going through the eventual divorce) because we love the family she ended up with.  ❤️  That's life!

It really didn't throw me for a loop.  DH came home and said, "We're moving"  I answered,  "No we're not, we're having a baby."  It was interesting moving with a 3 month old, but since du Pont paid for the move and packing everything, it was not as bad as it could have been.

We were moving from Camden, SC, to Wilmington, NC, which was not that long a drive.  We didn't spend too much time in a hotel, since the house was empty and the movers could start the moving process as soon as we closed, which was the day after we arrived.

Our real estate agent was a du Pont wife, and knew the ropes.  She even held younger DD at the closing, and didn't mind when she spit up on her.  😉

The day we moved in to the house, our older DD did not want to take a nap, since she was almost 4.  We have a picture of her sprawled in the middle of the kitchen floor among the boxes and packing paper sound asleep.

@Cruzin Terri Oh no on the fall; I hope you're ok. And to finding more damage. As you said, you can redesign the bathroom now, if you wish. And great that you like the contractor; a good one is hard to find. And as to your "friend", that's not how one treats true friends.

@Dr.Dobro Thanks for the photos and welcome to the Daily!

@Quartzsite Cruiser Thanks. The doctor's appointment was a routine one. The optician said I need to see the Optometrist again re the prescription, and no openings until mid-October. Then it's wait for a new prescription glasses to be made if she changes the prescription. Sorry about the roof leak, but it sounds like your contractor is up to the task.

Kind of a busy morning.  We had to be at the Navy Hospital at 0630 for Sara's cataract surgery.  Got home about 10:00.  She has three different eye drops to use every four hours, and then goes back tomorrow morning for a follow up.  Seems to be going well.

We were in Sihanoukville a few years ago on one of our Asian cruises.  I remember a shuttle took us into the town and there wasn't much to see.  We walked over to a hotel and got a couple of dollar beers in the lobby.  A sign on the wall said "Rooms $5.00  With Air Conditioning $10.00.  We then came back to the ship on the shuttle.  We also stopped there in 2020 on the Westerdam as it was the only country that would let us disembark.  Their ruler flew to the pier by helicopter to greet us and give us all a traditional scarf.  A couple of days later we flew from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh and stayed in a nice hotel for a few days while they arranged for us to fly home.  Here is a picture of how we got around town and one of the crowded airport.  Actually we were supposed to leave the day we arrived at the airport, but it didn't happen.  So we picked up our luggage and got on a bus to the hotel.  But it dropped us off at the wrong hotel, so we waited a few hours there, loaded our luggage in a new bus, and finally got to a hotel where we stayed for a week.1875426514_IMG_0493(2)_Moment.thumb.jpg.6486db66e4a2ccee768477b5fd874e5b.jpgIMG_0311.thumb.JPG.2f71150a516bddb2497d5d20362db0d2.JPG

Thanks for the pictures.  I remember reading about the Westerdam's saga in 2020.  Glad it turned out well, and that Cambodia came to your aid.

Actually, a lot of people came to our aid.  The U.S. Embassy was extremely helpful setting up a desk in the hotel and having people at the airport to get us around some of the Cambodian laws about how long you could stay without a visa, etc.  The HAL CEO was also there making sure everything went smoothly.

Great news about the offer on your house Debbie @dfish!

Oh, that crab is torturing me.   Thanks concerning the house.

God Bless,

Terri

Oh, my gosh, Terri, you can't catch a break at all.  At least you didn't break something when you fell.  I hope you feel better soon.  Take care and treat yourself to something.

Yippee is right, Jacqui!   What a difference a day makes.

I love those velvet hangers.   I want to switch all of mine over to them.

Oh, my goodness.  We moved several times for my dad's job but it was always at company expense and the movers did the whole deal.  I think my mother would have killed my dad if that wasn't the case with the last move.  She had four kids and one on the way.

Debbie, you can't beat the power of such  a great group pulling for you.  I'm glad the timing will work for you so you can enjoy your cruise and be in the new home for the holidays.

congratulations Debbie on house - I hope you get an even better offer and move and new house goes well!  We have moved a lot and sold a lot of houses, most went well, but a couple didn’t.  I dread moves.

Thank you!   I'm going to end up in a good spot.

Wow, Debbie, three offers in two days. Will there be a bidding war?

As I said, we were allowed time to move together.  DH worked in the Engineering Department at du Pont in the consulting group which was treated with respect.  We only had to move on our own three times, the Army paid for one and duPont for four.

The velvet hangers are great for keeping clothes from slipping off. I got them also so I can pack cruise clothes on the hangers.  That makes packing and unpacking go more quickly.

Well, we shall see about a bidding war.  The first couple who submitted an offer asked to be informed of other offers so they could have a chance to match it.

Sounds like the first couple is very interested.  If the others are as interested, there could be a bidding war.  We'll wait and watch what happens.

A quick check in before turning in for the night.  We had a long day of driving, but DH and I shared time behind the wheel, so that helped.

It feels wonderful to have the arms of our two grandsons around our necks again.   Our youngest (2.5 yrs) said before we leave he’s going to give me “eleventeen fousand hugs”.  I’m not sure how many eleventeen thousand is, but I’m willing to take them all!

Happy to see @dfishhas great house news, but sorry to hear @Cruzin Territook a fall.  Stay safe, everyone!

Smooth Sailing! 🙂🙂🙂
