Thank you for the Yom Kippur report, Rich.  I'll pass on the Frappe but celebrate animals.  I had a problem with golf, primarily a tendency to stand too close to the ball, especially AFTER I hit it.  I like the Gibran quote.  I have no idea what the meal is.  My alternative is Chilled Cranberry Soup, Basil Crusted Veal Rack, and Ricota Raspberry Tart as served on MS Amsterdam October 4, 2017.

Good morning and thank you for the Fleet and Daily Report.

 

Another cool morning.  Only 3°C (37°F) this morning, that's warmer than yesterday.  It's supposed to get to 19°C (66°F) this afternoon and sunny.  I think I'll do laundry and hang it outside to dry.  I did some gardening yesterday, cut back some long branches of raspberry bushes and planted some garlic.  I've got more garden clean up to do today.

 

Happy Yom Kippur.  I used to play golf but haven't in years.  A frappe sounds nice.  I love animals.

I hope the drink is tasty, I'm sure the wine is.

Wow.  I should book a flight to your area.  It's 45F (about 7C) now but only going up to a high of 51 (11C).  And a miserable rain all day.

Good morning! We have an appointment this morning to get our third booster shot so another sore arm is in the forecast. It’s a little warmer with present temp 61 F with a high today of 81F. Great weather but we really need some rain.

Rich thanks for the Fleet report and enjoy your cruise.

Other then booster shots not much on the agenda. Really should be still sleeping but one of those morning it was time to get up.

Good morning friends!  It's 51F but will be sunny most of the day with a high of 75.  Perfect!  Thanks Rich @richwmnfor the Fleet Report and Daily.  Happy Yom Kippur!  Cheers to golf, frappes, and animals of the world.  Yes to the wine, but can't decide on the menu suggestion since I don't know what it is - yet!  Brisbane is a great port which we last had here on the Daily Dec. 28, 2021.  Lots of photos coming up!

 

Thanks Roy @rafinmdfor our C & C list.  Prayers this morning already said for those on the list, my neighbor Linda especially, family and friends, and the people of Ukraine.  I hope our prayers are being heard for those suffering from Fiona and Ian, and the wildfire areas.

Going to the dentist today for that crown work we're having done.  Good thing I'm not afraid of needles because this is definitely a numb the mouth day.  Meanwhile hope everyone here has a very good day!

 

 

Today's port of Brisbane was one of our favorites.  We went twice in 2017 and on one visit a CC friend met us and took us around.  The second time there some friends we met on our Seabourn Antarctica cruise met up with us and took us all around the area.  My Aussie friends are so, so nice!  I hope to have time to show some photos of Brisbane but I warn you, there are many!

 

We did a circumnavigation cruise of Australia (on Sun Princess), and I would recommend it to anyone who can make their way to the "Land Down Under".  We also docked in the industrial port outside the city and took a shuttle bus to the central business district.

My CC friend walked us past the church she was married in.

 

Just around the corner was the Roma Street Parkland which was beautifully groomed.  Amazing it was surrounded by so many skyscrapers.

 

 

 

 

I do love visiting gardens!

 

They had a little train to ride on but we preferred to walk.

 

This is the City Hall, which we went inside to take a look.  They have the Museum of Brisbane on an upper floor there, which we visited briefly because there was so much to see in the city still.

 

 

Then we walked through the Queen Street Mall area on our way towards the river.

We walked across the Brisbane River on the Victoria Bridge to the Southbank area.

 

 

 

One of the most amazing places in the Southbank area is Streets Beach, Australia's only inner city man-made beach.  

 

Isn't it awesome?

 

 

From Southbank, we took the free ferry back across the river and walked towards our bus pick up point. 

 

 

We saw plenty of old buildings directly in front of the new buildings.

 

 

We had a wonderful day with my CC friend.  Next time we stopped here we would do entirely different things.  That will come up next post.

After our circumnavigation cruise we sailed on a Tasmania cruise followed by a Papua New Guinea cruise.  The PNG cruise included Brisbane on its way back to Sydney.  So several weeks later we were picked up at the industrial port, called Fisherman's Island Grain Terminal, by our Seabourn friends.  When they asked ahead of time what I wanted to see, I said kangaroos and koalas!  The first place we drove to was the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary which had a lot more animals than that!

And this cagey cassowary.  I never could get a good shot of him/her because it shifted around so much.  They are considered dangerous!

We also saw a Laughing Kookaburra, a Bush Thick-Knee, and the megabats of Australia.

Which is Mt. Coot-tha Summit Lookout.  The city of Brisbane in the distance.

 

 

We ate lunch here at Kuta Cafe and really enjoyed the view while dining as well as our friends' company.

 

From there we headed to the Brisbane River where one of our hosts dropped his wife and the two of us off for a ferry ride.  He met us at the other end.  We rode for 45 minutes enjoying the great weather, the river and our friend.  After we three got off at I believe Hawthorne they drove us back to the ship to say goodbye. What a wonderful day in Brisbane we had!

Roy, thank you for keeping our lists! Morning all. My gym finally got its power back, so I am looking forward to getting back into my routine. School in my County resumes tomorrow. Still some places being evacuated because of high tides pushing back on overflowing rivers and streams. Once again I realize how blessed I am.

Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc

This New Zealand wine is starting to appear in my local area. Fans of New Zealand SBs will enjoy this one. The 2019 vintage has a slightly higher rating than the 2030 vintage, but both are very good. The 2020 vintage might be easier to find. This one is available from numerous online distributors with prices for the 2020 vintage starting at $8.98.

Honest Wine Review’s opinion

Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp white wine from Marlborough, New Zealand.

Nobilo was started by Nikola Nobilo.  He left Croatia in 1943 and moved to New Zealand to plant the vines and start the business.

He came from a long tradition of family winemaking, reported to be over 300 years.

Fast forward to today, the winemaker is David Edmonds and the grapes for Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc came from the Wairau and Awatere vineyards.

I shared this wine with a group of longtime friends, bringing together a total of four trusted palates.

For this review we tasted the 2014 vintage of this wine. Similar to other New Zealand wines, Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc had a twist top.

Appearance

The wine’s appearance was golden in color.  It was definitely darker than many other Sauvignon Blancs I’ve experienced.

It was also quite leggy in the glass with many slow falling drips.

Aroma

I served this wine chilled, so it was a little difficult to discern the aroma notes at first.

But after a little time and lots of sniffing, we agreed on enjoyable notes of grapefruit and pineapple in the wine’s aroma.

We didn’t pick up any herbal notes of nettles or fresh cut tomato plant, as the tasting notes suggested.

There was very little sting of alcohol in the nose.  Most of us guessed the alcohol content to be no more than 11.8%.  But it turned out we were quite off in our estimates. Actual Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc alcohol content 12.5% by volume, per the bottle.

Taste

We all agreed the wine’s taste was tart, clean, crisp and pleasant.

For flavors, the pineapple carried through from the aroma to the taste, as did the grapefruit. We also noted some granny smith apple.

Finish

The wine’s finish was quite interesting.  It was a two-pronged finish carried by the flavors. The first, a more tart flavored finish, was short.  However a secondary sweeter finish was noted on the sides of the tongue.  We characterized that as a medium finish.

Overall Opinion

Overall, all four of us greatly enjoyed this wine.  The votes included “liked it”, “pleasant” and “clean and crisp.” We felt it to be great summer afternoon sipper and agreed on pairing this wine with a nice salad, a light fish dish or with chicken.  Nobilo also suggests oysters, tuna and caviar which sounds great to me!

Frost warnings were more than true.  Thankfully, I bit the bullet and brought all the dahlia bulbs I had dug up in the house last night ‘in case’.  It was below freezing this morning and unprotected dahlia can be killed by that 😔 Once it warms up - I get to lug them all back out again to try to get them dry.  LOL.

 

Got a few more planters done yesterday (I’m on the big ones now) and will see if I can figure out how to get some of the biggest done today along with starting to get the planters are put away in the shed. I checked the forecast for tonight and this is absolutely guaranteed after my work.

 

 

Got most of the stuff done yesterday for the poker run for our cruise.  So, name tags done, invites for M & G, cabin crawl hosts and wine tasting done =I think nearly everything is done for the cruise.  Just the spread sheet to be polished off and then converted & a couple of guides to touch base with and I am all set & can consider packing (I think).

Good morning everyone. It’s raining and 45 degrees here. We have the remnants of Ian.

I will be observing Yom Kippur tomorrow and since it is a very solemn day i won’t be posting. The day is spent in synagogue or as I will be doing, watching services remotely. The object of the day is to repent for our sins committed during the year and to ask for forgiveness from anyone we may have wronged. We wish each other an easy fast . Fasting is supposed to help us concentrate on the solemnity of the day. We are asking God to inscribe us in the book of life for the coming year.

Good morning to all. It is only 44 degrees outside and quite rainy. It is expected to be with us all day. 
I salute the days and await the recipe. Things  have been a little chaotic here but we are all still testing negative for which we are grateful. We must all have some sort of “other” bug as everyone has had nasty symptoms. Hopefully we will turn the corner today.
