Observations From The Poop Deck : BEYOND NOV 20-27 2022

Took a plunge earlier on a move-up offer and just today, 24 hours before sailing, got an email informing me of my bid failure. What is funny is that I told my TA to cancel the move-up bid some weeks ago. Sort of happy it was declined anyway. Be in a real pickle having upgraded some weeks ago.

Been reading reports from the Beyond as beautiful, but no 10 out of 10 ratings for everything else. Things do change rather quickly every cruise. Last month, just days before our cruise, read a report of chicken pox on board. Once on board all prior problems just melted away. When on the Edge all the top service people we came in contact with on the ship were just receiving notice of their transfers and promotions to the Beyond. Hoping to see some familiar (can't say 'faces' as everyone was masked) figures. We have discovered that often familiarity enhances a cruise measurably. Little details that a waiter remembers, a butler/host, or a steward.

Had a shore side concierge email contact with us. Found that one must wait to get on board to really get what one wants. (If everything is taken care of by shoreside concierge no reason to get tipped). The host/butler prides themselves in changing the type of liquor or procuring a lounge chair for the balcony or straightening out dinner reservations ( everything is always booked months out and they can work miracles on board).

Here is hoping embarkation is not a fiasco. Tomorrow is expected to be 66% chance of rain.

Your observations of this cruise will determine single-handedly if we book a cruise on the Beyond or not.

We have discovered that what ever happens on one cruise is seldom repeated, good or bad. 'Attitude is everything' and most of the CC followers have a very good attitude. Yours is extremely effervescent..

Following along on your cruise. I always enjoy reading your posts. I was looking for you on the MSC forum but then remembered you were cruising on the Beyond this time. Have a wonderful time!! It should be a busy one with your Thanksgiving this week.

“It was a cold and rainy” morning at terminal 25 Port Everglades. The blowing wind blew the rain under the awnings and added to the wind chill. Needed an umbrella to get from the parking garage to the terminal. Got to the port at 9:30. Met the head concierge in the Retreat lounge in the terminal. He said that we will be escorted onto the ship directly to our cabin or the lounge. I said we prefer to go directly to our cabin to drop off our carry on luggage .

Lunch in Luminae was great. Very elegant surroundings will post photos when we get luggage. Boarded at 11:00 am. Luminae opened 11:45 though posted 12 noon. Had the Cob Salad with chicken and bacon cubes. Bacon cubes, that was a first for me. Very attentive staff, Pete is the Maitre  ‘D, very nice and accommodating,

Muster  is quick and easy . Watch a video go to muster station and have key card scanned anytime until 3:30.

Brought along an old key card for power switch in cabin to keep lights on. No power saving key card device. One must flip switches like the ‘old days’.

I see on the Port Everglades web cam that you have not departed yet. In fact, all the departures from PE seem behind today. Any info as to why?

We came off Beyond today and it was a mess due to rain and wind plus disembarkation was 1 to 2 hours late. Six ships in port and very difficult to get to terminal or leave port!

Looks like only two of the six have left yet, Nieuw Amsterdam and Harmony of the Seas.

That’s amazing that you boarded at 11 am. We came off the Beyond today and it was 1-2 hours late disembarking. We left ship at 9:45 am after only half of disembarkation numbers had been called. The entire ship was scheduled to be cleared by 9:15 am!

Did you tell them you were arriving at 9:30 or did you just show up at that time?  We're leaving from T29 on New Year's Eve and wondering how boarding will go.

No, we just arrived early with the weather. There was an accident on the turnpike blocking all south bound traffic to the port so we took the Sawgrass expressway to I-595 to the port. This port has security at the entrance. They ask to see ones passports and if anyone is carrying a firearm. Asked if we were traveling or picking someone up. Officer said we were early but understood our enthusiasm. Put the Celebrity Priority paper on the dashboard of the car. Don't know if it helped any, but it didn't hurt either.

We got our luggage at 5 pm. It helped that we took photos of all the luggage and identifying tags on my phone. Our butler took a photo of my photo and relayed the pictures to the luggage handlers on the ship to be on the lookout for them. The ship was supposed to 'cast off' at 3:30 but we are just now getting underway (its 10 pm). Captain made a couple of announcements during dinner that we were delayed for three reasons. (Appears the baggage handlers on the dock do not work in the rain). One the ship was still loading luggage, (witnessed from our balcony just 2 forklift vehicles working the luggage racks each containing about 10 bags each). Two, that there was some problem with medical electrical something and third the weather at the port.

Dinner was great. The Daniel Boulard dessert was a milk chocolate pill? Had a hard time reading the menu with the romantic dim lighting in the Luminae. This signature dessert was not listed on the separate Luminae dessert menu. This separate dessert menu had another chocolate dessert equally good (we had both).

Captain says that we will be delayed two hours getting to our first port of call, Bahamas. So instead of leaving port at 3:00 the ship will leave at 5pm.tomorrow. Most shops and the casino on board were closed until we finally got underway. What was open was this first of its kind French chocolate candy kiosk on the Beyond. I bought a 2.4 oz milk chocolate bar for $12.50, it was just Okay. In 3 days time the kiosk is going to have a box of 16 different flavored chocolates for $40. Their top of the line box of two pieces each of a select 12 flavors is $70. These chocolates never go on sale.

We are underway about a hour and we are rocking and rolling a bit. Our cabin has roller doors on either side of the bedroom into the living room which tend to shut with the rock and roll. Lots of creaking and rattling. Also of note the walls of this cabin are NOT metal so the magnetic hooks are of no use on this ship.
