Mr. Boston Posted August 2, 2023 #6 Share Posted August 2, 2023 Good morning everyone. It’s going to be another nice day here, perfect for my company outing. Thanks for the daily report, recipes and lists. Hooray for ice cream sandwiches! I like the quote, it helps keep it all in perspective. I love potato salad and would have it as a side dish anytime. Probably pass on the drink. I haven’t been to today’s port. I bet that there are some nice photos of it. Praying for everyone on today’s list. Cheers to those of you who are celebrating happy events. 🥂
Rare 0106 Posted August 2, 2023 #7 Share Posted August 2, 2023 Good morning! Baltimore celebrated National Night Out last night with the goal of strengthening community relations with law enforcement. I loved this picture from the Baltimore Sun. I feel like everyone has a favorite potato salad. I think it would be great if you shared your potato salad recipe with us. My family is Pennsylvania Dutch. I have two traditional recipes I make and one that I have recently started making that my DH loves. Amish potato salad is sweeter than your classic potato salad thanks to the sugar in its mayonnaise-based dressing. Mustard and vinegar balance out the sweetness and give this potato salad a unique sweet-and-sour kick. It must include hard boiled eggs. I don’t actually use a recipe but this is similar to what I do. The main difference is I cook my potatoes whole, then peel them and cut them up for the salad. German Potato Salad is served warm with vinegar and bacon dripping dressing. I usually use red potatoes and do not peel them. I saw Shout Hallelujah Potato Salad in Southern Living magazine and thought I’d give it a try. The ingredients are potatoes, pimientos, hardboiled eggs, sweet pickles, celery, onion, bell pepper, parsley and jalapenos. The easy dressing is made with mayonnaise, mustard, lemon juice, olive oil and hot sauce.Looking at the ingredient list might seem a little daunting, but don’t worry about it. Once you’ve got all your ingredients on hand, you just throw everything together and you’re good to go. Just get ready to shout Hallelujah! Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good 21
Rare Crazy For Cats Posted August 2, 2023 #8 Share Posted August 2, 2023 Good Morning, thanks for today’s daily fleet report. It’s another beautiful day and should last one more day. I do like potato salad and would lean towards the Amish recipe. It’s going to be another busy work day, I need to follow up on a demand from a customer that came very late in the day yesterday. I hope to arrange transportation for our September cruise today. We were awakened by the smell of skunk around midnight, not fun. 26
Rare puppycanducruise Posted August 2, 2023 #9 Share Posted August 2, 2023 Good morning. Thanks for the Report. Cloudy and cool this morning, chance of rain this afternoon. A good collection of days. Love the quote. I like potato salad, I should make some soon. I don't use a recipe, but the salad must contain chopped hard boiled eggs, sliced radishes and green onions. The dressing is mayo mixed with a bit of relish. It should be dusted with paprika and devilled eggs decorate the top. I'm sure I'll like the drink and wine. Thanks in advance for pictures of today's port. Prayers for everyone on the Care List. Cheers for all the celebrations. @lazey1 Happy Birthday. Have a wonderful day everyone! 29
StLouisCruisers Posted August 2, 2023 #10 Share Posted August 2, 2023 Good morning friends! It's a nice morning here in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. We are 2 hours earlier than the previously recorded schedule due to the fact that Red Bay, Labrador has been eliminated from our itinerary this cruise. Tomorrow and the next day will be sea days as we head towards Qaqortoq, Greenland, arriving on Aug. 5 at 8 am not 10 am as previously scheduled. We will wait until most of the tendering is finished up before heading ashore to hike around the lake behind the City Hall. We might do a little shopping too. We cannot dock here today due to a freighter taking our spot. The Captain said there was nothing he could do about it even though he tried. Nice days today. I appreciate an ice cream sandwich at home quite often. Here I join the line in the Lido for an ice cream cone almost every day. I agree with the quote of the day, too. Potato salad sounds nice. No thanks to the drink and wine. Thanks to Rich @richwmn for the Daily, Tina @0106, Dixie @summer slope, and Ann @cat shepard for the F&B department reports. Prayers for those on our Care list and anyone else in need of them including DB and Mark, Tana, Lou, Maureen's DH @RMLincoln, Annie and Chuck @marshhawk and @catmando, Baby Murphy and friends and family lost or suffering. Happy Birthday to Jane @lazey1 !! Smooth sailing to the cruisers including myself. Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for your excellent work on the lists. The port of Skjolden has been mentioned here twice before plus the added distinction of being discussed 13 days ago with the Sognefjord, Norway port of the day. The first two times, I hadn't been there yet, but last month's port of the day I was able to post photos of Sognefjord. I should show more of the town but I haven't tried going into Shutterfly yet this voyage and that may not work. I'll do that later after I post Lenda's photos. Here are the links: And here is Sognefjord, Norway port of the day, July 20, 2023. Since I had finally seen Skjolden by that date, here are the photos I posted 13 days ago. I actually have been in Sognefjord, just last summer on Island Princess, right after we had Covid. When I looked up the region I found this very fine photo of Skjolden at the end of the fjord. Our ship, the Island Princess was docked where the ship in the picture is. This is an internet photo. We walked along the shoreline from our ship to Skjolden which is where the bridges and rapids are in the above photo. Here we are along the way. The rapids running into the fjord. Some of the town of Skjolden And the beautiful Feigefossen waterfall we saw going in and out of the fjord to see the town of Skjolden. I'm off on the hunt for Lenda's photos. Have a wonderful day this Wednesday. 25

StLouisCruisers Posted August 2, 2023 #16 Share Posted August 2, 2023 Here are Lenda's photos from Sognefjord, Norway day. In 2005 on Marco Polo, we started the day in Flam on a branch of Sognefjord where we took the train to Myrdal, and then were bused to Gudvangen on another branch of Sognefjord where Marco Polo was waiting for us. It was supposed to be a quick stop to board the tenders, but as can happen on a cruise, there was a hitch. One of the tenders broke down, and we had a long wait while they retrieved it and towed it back to the ship. It was a nice, warm, sunny afternoon, so the wait was not uncomfortable. We were traveling with friends, and we found a couple of benches to relax and visit. To retrieve the tender, one man was using a inflatable boat to maneuver the tender into position for it to be towed back to the ship. This is just one of the pictures of his attempts. How the finally managed to get the tender back on board is lost in the mists of time. Marco Polo waiting down the fjord The area where we were waiting Of course, there were shopping opportunities. Finally, everyone was back on board, and we headed down the fjord. 23
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted August 2, 2023 #17 Share Posted August 2, 2023 Good morning from a still dark central Texas. I woke up earlier than I expected, and we don't have to leave for UTSW quite as early, so I thought I'd pop in very quickly. @StLouisCruisers Sandi, I appreciate your posting the links this morning. The only time I've posted pictures of Skjolden was just a few days ago. Unfortunately, National Night Out is not celebrated in our small community. CAD helped DH in developing and maintaining his computer program. Ice cream sandwiches are good, but it's been a long time since we've had any. I like today's quote. I use my mother's recipe for potato salad, but I leave out the green olives and add hard cooked eggs along with chopped celery. green bell pepper, salt and pepper. After mixing all the ingredients, I add mayonnaise. We'll pass on the drink, but I might try the wine. The date in history changed India. We've been to Skjolden, and I'll let Sandi post my pictures since I need to start getting ready to head to Dallas. 10 minutes ago, Crazy For Cats said: Good Morning, thanks for today’s daily fleet report. cat shepard Posted August 2, 2023 #18 Share Posted August 2, 2023 Thank you for today’s R & D, Rich! It is very cloudy this morning after a day without rain. Looks like Daytona is getting some early morning showers. Thank you for keeping up with us, Vanessa! I need to get out and do some dead-heading. I am astounded that my hydrangea is still producing blossoms. I wish I could figure out why this year is different. I have plenty of things to keep me busy inside, if we do get rain. Bindi walks, HIIT and 🤞🏻 pool time might just keep me busy. Prayers for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! @Mr. Boston enjoy your last few days of work! Get well & stay well ever! ********** Trapiche - Oak Cask Malbec 2021 I want to try this Malbec just so I can learn what the winemaker means by “in the mouth is round”. This Malbec is widely available and all vintages share similar reviews. Numerous online distributors with prices starting at $6.99. Winemaker Notes Trapiche Oak Cask Malbec is an intense red colored wine with some violet hues. Fruity aromas with notes of plums and cherries. In the mouth is round, with a touch of truffles and vanilla. JS91 James Suckling Ripe plums, cooked cherries, cocoa and a hint of beetroot on the nose. Medium-bodied, ripe and fruity with soft tannins and bright acidity. Plummy, juicy finish. 22 7

Rare kazu Posted August 2, 2023 #20 Share Posted August 2, 2023 Thanks for our Hump Day Daily, Rich. Nice collection of days. I’m not sure about the quote. Life can be hard at times. Yum on potato salad. I’m with you Tina @0106 I cook my potatoes whole too and have to have boiled eggs in them. Ivan got his 2nd shot yesterday on his 3 month gotcha’ anniversary and they were quite pleased with his weight. he’s lost 1 pound since their last visit & 6 pounds total since I got him. 👍 He’s just about at his ideal weight! Vanessa @JazzyV I think you can take him off the Care list. without jinxing myself, all the signs point to the injections working 🤞 I did get a supply of his pain meds in case. Busy, emotional morning today - off to the lawyer to get changes to my will for Jose’s endowment & bursary and then the draft for the testimonial portion of it. Happy Birthday @lazey1 Prayers for so many of you suffering loss, worry for loved ones and health issues and those that need them. Cheers to those celebrating. Rare rafinmd Posted August 2, 2023 #22 Share Posted August 2, 2023 (edited) Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Ann, Tina, and Dixie. I think National Night is actually the first Tuesday in August. I like Ice Cream Sandwiches but usually go with a cup or occasionally cone. CAD is a great leap forward, especially when a design is evolving. I wonder if plotting a ship's course on a digital map would be considered a form of CAD. Happy Birthday @lazey1! I do like the Harris quote but have not been to Skjolden. I'm not sure what the India transfer meant but hope it was for the best. I've been to India just once, back in 2010 on Queen Victoria. I'll pass on the potato salad. My alternative is Melange of Tropical Fruit, Chilled Peach and Ginger Soup and Cajun Chicken Caesar Salad as served on MS Prinsendam August 2, 2011. aliaschief Posted August 2, 2023 #23 Share Posted August 2, 2023 Good morning. For last two days I have had a slight soreness around one of my back molar teeth. So I called my dentist yesterday and they will be seeing me in an hour. With our travel to Pennsylvania next week I wanted to have the dentist check out the tooth. Geez was there last week! Received the estimate for clearing up shrubbery and over growth around woods on our property. It’s going to cost a cruise in an inside cabin but it needs to be done! Weather cooperating they should start Friday. @Lazy1 Jane Happy Birthday to you. 🎂 Thanks for the reports and enjoy your Hump Day. smitty34877 Posted August 2, 2023 #24 Share Posted August 2, 2023 Good morning. I made potato salad yesterday and don’t use a recipe. I boil the potatoes whole, peel and slice them and add scallions. I like it to marinate in a vinaigrette dressing with a touch of dry mustard. We don’t use the eggs but my mom did. I made five pounds yesterday and it is gone. We leave shortly to return to the infusion center to get disconnected. The alarm went off on the pump and I had an anxious few minutes with the help line people before they told me how to stop it. Yikes. @ger_77, I was glad to hear that an appointment was secured for DH tomorrow. I hope they can help with the angina. @lazey1, a very Happy Birthday to you! It is a beautiful day once again with temperatures only going to 80 and low humidity. I love to see how much the dogs enjoy their walks on these nice days. Take care everyone. 29
Rare Denise T Posted August 2, 2023 #25 Share Posted August 2, 2023 Good morning, everyone. Happy Wednesday. Thank you for the Daily and Fleet reports. I will always celebrate national Ice Cream Sandwich Day. I love potato salad. Aperol Spritz being my favorite drink, I would try the drink of the day. It has been cool weather here with less humidity. Love this weather. Been very busy these last couple of days. Teaching and seeing clients. I am also getting ready for the oral defense of my dissertation proposal. The goal is to finish the program by the end of this year. Fancy continues to be a wonderful dog. I think she likes her new home. Happy birthday @Lazy1! Thinking of all on the care list. Celebrating with all who are celebrating. Have a safe and healthy day.
