They confiscate the paint products under the aspect of being "flammable" upon boarding but you and I know the truth: they are just trying to protect their profits. "Royal" must have had this problem in the past.

They have the Star coming next year, then an unnamed one after that. By then, maybe, the Icon prices may come down.

I keep wondering why no one ever posts how high Star prices are, but every 2 days like clockwork someone posts a new thread about Icon prices. One of these days someone will notice Star prices?

Time will tell.... There are 2800 cabins on Icon...x52 weeks. That's nearly 150k cabin sales per year. 

 

Are there that many people out there that will pay $1k/night? Then you have Star coming next year that will double that capacity. 

 

Definitely a lot of cruise ship capacity coming online in the next year or so.

I know there is more capacity in the pipeline but I am more concerned with what capacity they would be willing to lose if it increases profit.

 

As noted by many on CC, the older smaller ships might become dispensable if their profit margins become less per passenger then the big ships.

 

Does 'Royal' decide fewer large ships provide more profit than many small ships?

 

The newer larger ships provide much more opportunity for on-board spending which is another profit driver. If the ICON and another Oasis class ship arrive at Coco Cay simultaneously,  The over-the-water Cabanas could fetch $5,000 +. Heck, there might even be bidding wars.

 

The CEO believes there is still a 30% price differential between his shipboards experiences and a similar land experience and wants to get that differential as low as possible which will mean higher prices in the future.

 

Until hotels, airfares, and other all inclusive experiences start dropping their prices, there is no competition to keep Royal prices from increasing.

 

One can try other cruise lines but they all tend to mimic each other once a price is increased on things like wi-fi, drink prices, gratuities, dining packages, special neighborhoods, and on-board activities.

When I booked a cruise on Star when bookings were first available, the price of Star was significantly less than the price of Icon for the same period (September 2025). However, at least the last time I looked, prices for Star were comparable to Icon. In theory the prices for Icon should drop at least a little when Star starts cruising, but I haven’t noticed that as of the last time I did mock bookings for both ships.

I didn’t want to quote your entire comment, which I enjoyed reading, but there is competition out there. For example, Carnival’s prices for cruises are significantly lower than RCI’s, to include their newest ships (Mardi Gras, Celebration and Jubilee). I have read numerous comments online from “loyal to Royal” people who have stated they have switched to Carnival due to RCI’s higher prices. While these numbers have not been high enough so far to impact the demand to cruise on RCI, it could possibly happen in the future. While I personally prefer RCI for several reasons, Carnival and RCI have a lot more similarities than differences. At some point enough people might decide spending $1000s more to cruise on RCI instead of Carnival (or another cruise line for that matter) for a pretty similar experience is no longer worth it.

Idk most carnival cruisers are buying and ships with the private areas. Vista class they want the Havana area for a private pool. Not as cheap as people think to book carnival. 

 

Used to be able to book rcl or carnival for $100 a day. Those days are gone for both, no matter what you book. A balcony on the carnival cruise I just got off was running over 6k unless you booked with a casino offer, though 14 days. Older ship, great ports.

 

I can actually book rcl cheaper with DP340 than i can book a inside on jubilee, bottom deck. I think people who dont click thru assume carnival is still cheap rates. Nope. Now its try MSC they are cheaper. $1500 solo on jubilee inside cabin isnt cheap to me. That's still $200 a day for carnival. I'm not paying more for carnival when i can book cheaper on rcl with DP340. Dream on about cheap rates.

I just did two mock bookings online for a 7 day Western Caribbean cruise for an ocean view balcony in October 2024. On Jubilee, Carnival’s newest ship, the cost is $2,366.30 for an ocean view balcony. On Icon, RCI’s newest ship (not including Utopia since she won’t be doing 7 day cruises), the cost is $7,624.68 for an ocean view balcony. So Icon is over three times more expensive than Jubilee for the same cabin type to the same part of the Caribbean. That is a huge difference in my book. I could be wrong, but at some point I think a significant number of people who want to sail on the newest ships are going to decide the experience on RCI is not worth paying over three times more than Carnival.
