Good morning friends!  Another sea day then we reach St. Anthony, Newfoundland.  We turned the clock back 30 minutes last night and now it’s really hard to figure out the time back home.  It’s now 1 ½ hours ahead of Eastern time.  The TV says the temperature is 49F with scattered clouds and 21 mph winds.  The Zuiderdam is moving along at 15 knots and you can tell there are some large waves out there with those winds.  Today we have a Mariner lunch at 11 a.m. and dressy night this evening.  That’s all I need to worry about.  If I have time I might do some cross stitching.

Thank you Rich @richwmn for the Fleet Report and Daily as well as the maps.  I can enjoy Jell-O and pecan pie.  I had to look up Night of Nights Day and it commemorates when the last Morse code transmission was sent.  You’re welcome!  I think the quote is a rather fun comment.  Chicken burger sounds interesting but I like my chicken as chicken and my burgers as beef usually.  No idea about the drink and would probably skip a Riesling unless it’s not sweet.  King Charles II gave prisoners the right to be examined and I’m sure they didn’t have many rights in those days, so that would be a step forward.  Thanks Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope and Ann @cat shepard for your reports today.

Prayers for our wonderful group of friends here, Chuck @catmando, Annie @marshhawk, Jacqui @kazu, Richard @RMLincoln, Tana and Terry @smitty34877, Terri @Cruzin Terri and everyone else having a hard time right now.  Prayers too for my DB, twin sister, Alex/Jordan’s twins, the people of Israel and Ukraine, the hostages still held and our precious troops in the region.  Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for helping us keep track of Dailyites.  It’s quite a job!

The port today is Nanortalik, Greenland.  The last two times it was our port, April 7, 2021 and May 14, 2023 I hadn’t experienced Nanortalik yet.  That was on August 15, 2023. We were supposed to see it again but missed it due to too much ice.  I’ll post the two links, and then pick out a few photos from that little town for you to see.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday.  Please stay safe and keep well!

Nanortalik, Greenland

When this was our port of the day previously we hadn’t visited Nanortalik yet.  A few months later we did and here is my take on what we saw.

When we arrived at 8 a.m. it was foggy and only 41.  The high would only be 46.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

We went over about 11 and found a rugged landscape.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

We thought they were very industrious mooring 11 or 12 boats to one dock.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

We walked around seeing the fish market, the tiny supermarket, the church, the odd monument near the church and the colorful vegetation.

Admiral cocktail:

The Admiral cocktail is a refreshing and citrusy cocktail that is perfect for summer sipping. With a combination of rum, orange liqueur, and grapefruit juice, this cocktail is a delicious balance of sweet and sour flavors. The cocktail is typically served over ice, making it a great option for warm-weather occasions. If you're looking for a new cocktail to add to your repertoire, give the Admiral a try!

Ingredients:

1 oz. cointreau liqueur
1/2 oz. lime juice
1 1/2 oz. white rum
1 1/2 oz. grapefruit juice

Directions:

In a shaker with ice add the white rum, orange liqueur, grapefruit juice, and lime juice. Shake well until chilled.
Strain the mixture into an ice-filled glass and garnish with a slice of grapefruit(optional).

Good Morning Everyone, thanks for today’s daily fleet report.  The heat and high humidity continue and I’m glad that the ac works.  Earlier this week DH received a large package from Omaha Steaks.  It was a reward from his job for doing well.  The freezers are now very full. I need to start researching signing up for Medicare, I can start next month. I hope everyone has a good day today.

Anam Cara Cellars 2021 Nicholas Estate Riesling

Sweet Riesling lovers take note - critics and consumers love this one. It almost tempts me, who does not like sweet wines. A decent number of distributors with online prices starting at $27.00 for a half bottle.
Winemaker notes

Our first dessert Riesling is a beauty! This lovely wine is reminiscent of bosc pear and golden delicious apples on the nose with sun-ripened peaches on the palate. Made in an ice wine style, the grapes are frozen immediately after picking for a lovely, lush wine which is perfect with Holiday cookies.

Suggested Pairings: Stilton cheese, persimmon pudding, apple pie, English trifle

Sunset Magazine: Gold Medal Winner
Wine Enthusiast: 93 points, Editor's Choice

Good morning and happy Friday!  The meal sounds ok, haven't been to the port, but @StLouisCruisersyour pictures look interesting.  Love the brightly colored buildings.

@marshhawkPrayers for your DH today.

We're going to a ball game tonight and having a tailgate picnic before...trying to figure out what to pack.  @grapau27your food always looks so yummy.  I'm trying to figure out how to make a salad with some salmon.  I'll bake it with some basil and parmesan cheese.  My basil is growing nicely.  I'm also getting a few cucumbers now.  The best part of summer!

Prayers for all on the care list and cheers for those cruising and having good times.

Have a god day!  Karen

One of the first cucumbers!

Good Friday morning.   A nice cool morning here in Michigan's UP.  Thanks for the Daily and maps @richwmn.   I have always been a fan of sugar free Jello and John is the fan of pecan pie.  Thanks for the reason behind Nights of Nights Sandi.   A good quote today.  I think a chicken burger is a nothing burger.  If I am having chicken on a bun I would have a crispy fried filet.   The Admiral cocktail looks like a good one for happy hour or by the pool on a BHB.   I like Rieslings but today's isn't German and is not one of the special sweet Rieslings they vinify. Thanks for researching these for us each day,   Thanks for the photos of today's port @StLouisCruisers.

Thanks for the cares and celebrations reports Vanessa.  Prayers for Annie and Chuck as he has his arterial blockages cleared.  Prayers for Tana, Terry, Jacqui, Terri and Bonnie and everyone else who are ailing of grieving.  Prayers for all in war zones through no fault of their own, Ukraine, the remaining hostages and the innocents in Gaza.

We are heading to town today and may head west and hit the tribal casino in Watersmeet MI.  Of course there will be a trip to the post office, the grocery store and a fish fry somewhere.   We got it wonderfully cool in the cabin again overnight.  I am sitting here in a sweatshirt and a blanket on my lap.  It is getting into the high 80s.  A good day to go to town because outside work is not fun in all the heat.  We have three more days of it after today.   We are lucky this is the first hot spell we have had all summer.  Have a lovely Friday!  Nancy

Happy Friday. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet reports.

It's raining! Expected to rain all day. I tried to get Fancy to go out this morning. She got to the door and turned around back to her bed. Everything will be watered now.

I have a chiropractor appointment this morning and then I will finish up grading assignments for my one class. I will have to get up very early on Saturday to take the car in to be looked. It is making a whining noise when I make left turns.

Thinking of all on the care list.

Celebrating with all who are celebrating.

Have a safe and healthy day.

Thank you for the Reports!  Hello to all the Dailyites!!

Hmmm...  I'm weighing the choice...  Dessert of Jello?  Dessert of Pecan Pie?  Sorry, I'm a Texan and Pecan Pie wins -- Hands Down!!!

Laughing with everyone else at the quote of today!!!  Perfect!

Thank you for all the trouble and time you spend to create these reports!!!

Happy Friday Morning Dailyites! DH's surgery is scheduled for 1, and he cant eat anything this morning, so I am definitely letting him sleep.  We have to be at the hospital at 11 am. If all goes well he should be able to come home around 7 tonight.

I walk the dog at 9:30.  Donna called her "tree guy" Wednesday morning, he still has not shown up. So the huge branch that is still attached to the tree, is still hanging onto the street.

It's 73 degrees and sunny out. We are still in the shade. but there is no breeze, nothing is moving outside.

My chore today is vacuum and spray the porch for fleas, and put flea meds on the adult cats. The kittens got combed last night, and I put their flea meds on.  The battle of summer vs furbabies.

Helpful hint, comb the kritter with a flea comb, and place the fleas in water with some Dawn in it.

While it's safe enough to wash a duckling, it kills fleas.

animals-flea-dog-cat-flea_bite-pest-ehon226_low.jpg

My mom used to make a great lime jello salad with mandarin orange slices and chopped celery in it.

I love Pecan Pie.

Oh, and I think I solved my tummy problem.  I was trying to eat healthy and gave up the chocolate for a quarter cup of lightly salted mixed nuts for my snack..  It is true, that as you get older, nuts are not always the best snack food.  I stopped eating them 3 days ago, and I felt better yesterday, and even better today.  Going back to dark chocolate.

Good morning all.  Prayers for those in need.  A big thank you to all who continue to keep this thread the success it is.

Our friend who had the stroke is much the same.  The next big thing is to remove the feeding tube which is proving difficult.  His spouse still not sure they are staying with the current facility so there may be a change.  Prayers appreciated.

I was able to find an available accessible cabin on Liberty of the Seas in October.  It’s a 6 day trip to Bermuda — shorter than we are used to but a get away for DH nonetheless.  I will continue to search for something a bit sooner.  DH is getting antsy.  But the next big thing is an echocardiogram on Monday.

Best wishes for a great day.  Katherine

Good morning, everyone!

We have a possibility of random showers this morning followed by sunshine and temps in the mid 80s.  Should be a nice day.  I'm on Rita duty as Sue has an appointment to give blood this morning.  Right now Rita is sulking because Sue went outside and didn't take her along.  She's getting back at Sue by sitting in her chair.  This afternoon we are taking Rita for a bath to get her prettied up to go home.  She had such fun playing in the puddles yesterday and being a dog, but she does look a bit bedraggled.

Fun that it is National Jello Day.  A few years back we visited the Jello Museum in LeRoy, New York.  That was fun and interesting. Sue is a big pecan pie fan.  I have to make one for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I put some mini chocolate chips in them and everyone loves that.

I'm with @ottahand7 about chicken burgers.  I always find them to be a bit on the dry side.  When DS Barb does them they resemble hockey pucks.  But for those who might be interested, here is a good, basic chicken burger recipe.  Chicken Burgers 1

chickenburger1.thumb.jpg.da8851506004419458ea4cab5d0620c2.jpg

Or there is this one.  Chicken Burger 2

chickenburger2.jpg.9d375e0c2e5ffdc187b15b96305fa88f.jpg

And there is this offering from Skinnytaste:  Chicken Burger 3

Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Happy Friday! 😀

Good morning all. It’s starting to get cooler finally. We like to open the house in the early morning when it gets below 70°F. The other day that didn’t happen until around 5am! 😳

Thank you all for caring and sharing.  Prayers 🙏 for everyone who needs them.  Cheers 🎉 for all the celebrations.

Last night I made the Shrimp Salad with Peanut Sauce.  I chose recipe #1.  I screwed up and didn't buy Toasted sesame oil, just plain untoasted, but upped the flavor by adding some extra low sodium soy sauce. Sliced radishes and cucumbers very thinly, and served it with 10 shrimp each.  It was delightful, a nice cold summer dinner.  ( used frozen pre cooked, tailless deveined shrimp) but to take away that "I came from a bag" taste, I thawed them, and put them under the broiler with a marinade of olive oil, lime juice and salt and pepper. (I even took a picture)

@dfishYou choose great recipes, this is my second attempt at making one, and I have really loved both.Thank you for all the research you do.

More on Night of Nights:

Night of Nights is an annual event held on the 12th of July by the Maritime Radio Historical Society (MRHS) to commemorate the history of maritime radio and the closing of commercial Morse operations in the USA [in 1999]. These on-the-air events are intended to honor the men and women who followed the radiotelegraph trade on ships and at coast stations around the world and made it one of honor and skill.

Once, the maritime mobile bands were populated edge to edge with powerful coast stations operating from virtually every country on every continent. Once, the ships of world trade and the great passenger liners filled the air with their radiograms—and with their calls for help when in danger on the sea. Now those bands are largely silent.

https://www.nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/events_nightofnights.htm

The commercial Morse transmitters that are still operable will sign on tonight and transmit Morse code until midnight.

Maybe I will make chicken burgers tonight, if I can get ground chicken. The drink would be OK but those who take certain medications will need to avoid it because of the grapefruit juice. Finger Lakes wineries excel in dessert Rieslings and ice wines; throwing budgets to the winds, we'll go with Weis Vineyards Noble Select Riesling 2020, $109.99. "Our 2020 Noble Select Riesling is hand crafted in the German style of Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA), meaning "Dry Berry Selection," this wine is made using meticulously hand selected Riesling grapes of the highest quality. The grapes contain a naturally high sugar content occuring with the help of Botrytis Cenera (Noble Rot).  TBA style wines rank among the greatest sweet wines in the world.  This wine will age comfortably for decades."
